Product works… but breaks.
Great idea and it really did work, until it didn’t. Unfortunately the twist cap also broke for us after 6 days of use. I read the reviews and I was SO careful with it because we desperately needed this system to work to get my daughter bigger for surgery. Unfortunately on day 6 the twist cap just sort of disintegrated. Really disappointing.

A Big Help for Early Breastfeeding Hurdles
I didn't get off to the best start with my breastfeeding journey after the birth of my baby and this supplementer was recommended to me by my infant feeding team. My son was finding it difficult to get milk from my breast partly because my inverted nipples meant I was using nipple shields. Initially we topped up his breast milk intake using feeding cups. This device was advised to help him get all the breast milk he needed until he was bigger and more able to remove the milk from my breast himself. The supplementer is easily built and filled but it can be quite fiddly to attach to yourself. Once the bottle is clipped onto a bra strap (I found it best to position the bottle on the opposite site to the breast you are feeding from) you need to try and get the feeding tube to sit slightly proud of your own nipple then tape the tube to your breast with micropore tape. Positive Points The main advantage of using this SNS is that it can save a lot of time. Instead of expressing milk, breastfeeding and then topping up baby with a feeding cup, you can express milk and feed it to baby whilst breastfeeding. Cleaning the supplementer is easy, there is a syringe included which makes it possible to clean the tubing. All other parts can be sterilised. I found the parts to be good quality and never had any leaks. Negative Points The most difficult part is to try and get baby to take your nipple and the tube into his mouth at the same time. The biggest issue that I found was that unless the tube was positioned exactly right the milk just wouldn't flow and you'd have to take baby off and on the nipple adjusting the tube slightly until it worked properly. I also found that wearing it feels quite cumbersome and makes is difficult to move around. Especially as I was using it combined with nipple shields I felt like a bit of a breastfeeding robot! I think for what you get this is very overpriced. Despite the price I found this to be a worthwhile purchase. It helped us get through the first few weeks when we were trying to get an established breastfeeding routine. I would recommend this to anyone committed to get through early breastfeeding struggles before you're able to safely top up your baby using a bottle without causing nipple confusion.

Not very easy to use
I bought this sns due to difficulties with breastfeeding. I found it very difficult to use, always having to ask for help from my partner to hold the bottle as attaching it on the bra did not work. When I tried using it on my own, I always got milk spiking through the little hole... The little tube/hose tickled baby's palate or something as he always seemed to be disturbed by it and stop nursing. I think the idea is great, however not very practical.

Modello fatto bene. Pecca: 1. Tubicino troppo largo 2. Non va bene da troppo piccoli 3. Per un seno solo

The screw in valve became misshapen and unable to screw in after sterilising it in the Medela microwave bag, which it literally says to do in order to clean it. It warped the piece and now the whole thing is unusable. It's a great product for a very short time until it breaks. A replacement would be welcome but a lot term fix for this QC issue needs to be addressed, looking at other reviews too

These breastshields saved me from giving up on feeding breastmilk! My son is 4 weeks old, since he was born, he has been unable to breastfeed, so I made the choice to be an EXCLUSIVE PUMPER and supplement as needed with formula. This has meant pumping every 2 hours, 24 hours a day to provide what my son needs. I am using the Medela "Pump in Style" Advanced double breastpump. Unfortunately, and quite PAINFULLY I might add, I discovered that the included 24mm size shields that come standard with the kit are NOT "one size fits all". After upgrading to the 27mm shield, I was still having pain pumping. With both sizes, my nipples would fit initially, but even pumping at the lowest setting, they would engorge, and blanche white, and rub on the sizes of the tubing. At 3 weeks postpartum, I developed a painful case of mastitis. I tried the "Pumping Pals" angled shields, and didn't like the results I was having (a review also posted on Amazon by me for this product) so I returned them. On the day I was set to stop pumping all together, I visited Medala's website, and read their recommendations for proper fit and measurement. I measured my nipples AFTER I pumped, and used this as a gauge for what size I needed, and was surprised to find out I needed a much larger size that I thought. After getting these shields, and using them for 24 hours, I've noticed a HUGE change in my comfort levels while pumping, as well as increased output as well. My nipples still engorge a bit while pumping, but they don't rub on the insides of the tubing, and I can pump at a lower setting with just as good of output. Upgrading to a larger size has made all the difference!! **on a side note, there have been some reviews claiming these to NOT be authentic Medela, but the pieces I received were in authentic Medela packaging, with the "trademark" symbol stamped on the shields themselves. You also get TWO shields PER package, so one for each side.

With my first baby, I used size 30 (XL) so that's what I bought again for my second baby. The size 30 was recommended to me by the lactation nurse at the hospital. With my first baby I could only pump a total of 2 oz at a time (from both breasts). I tried everything to increase my milk supply but nothing really worked. When I had baby #2, I had a different lactation nurse and she gave me size 27 based on my breast size. For reference I'm a 38B (postpartum size while breastfeeding). She explained that proper sizing can affect milk supply. I believe she's right as I'm able to pump about 5 to 6oz each time. I'm sure there are other factors at play this time around, but I think sizing really does matter when it comes to pumping and milk production. Many women already know this, but it's something to keep in mind in case you didn't realize you have the wrong size (like me). For this particular product, these are authentic Medela breastshields and they fit perfectly with any Medela breast pump. Although I ended up ordering the wrong size through Amazon, I have to give this product 5 stars because it's a great product overall.
