Network Ethernet Cable Tester for LAN RJ45 Cat5 Cat5e Cat6 Cat6a Cat7 UTP/Shielded Cable and RJ11 RJ12

My five-star rating is entirely based on the price and basic functionality. For less than $10 you are getting a continuity tester that sequentially shows which conductor matches the one being tested. Every other negative thing I write in here is solely for making others aware, or as ways to improve for the manufacturer. If your cable wires are set up 1:1 and it is miswired, the lights won't match. Sequencing through each pair happens quickly, but with enough time to see a mismatch and where. I think it does a few other things but I need to review the instructions more carefully as the small instruction set was clearly not written by a native speaker. The switch settings should be a bit more obvious on the housing. It should at least be printed with a few more words. That said, I deciphered enough to share that this isn't meant to be used while plugged into devices that are powered on. Another instance of wishing this was printed on the housing. It has both RJ45 and RJ11, so make sure you're plugging into the right place. As others have stated, these connectors are fiddly at best. If your cables have the retaining clip on the boot, they might be even more problematic. The housing material seems a bit thin, but the mold it seems decently executed, no rough bits or weird flashing. I like that the dovetail shoe helps keep this in one piece but also allows for split usage. That way you can at least leave the cable ends in place. What may also not be intuitive is if you have a known-working tester jumper, you can test two ends of in-wall wire after it's been installed. Of course, it should be tested first, but if it hasn't been this will at least save a lot of time. Overall, this thing is accurate and for 10 bucks, is durable enough to keep in my data wiring kit without worrying about it breaking.

Works great for cat5 or 6 cable testing

I use this to check new RJ45 connections in home ethernet wiring. Works on new cables, and repairs (you know, when the lock breaks off the cable and it won't stay in anymore). There's a far-end part and a battery powered end with the switch. So you don't have to be in two places at once. Both ends have displays to see if wiring is in the correct order.

Good value. The power switch and overall feel is cheap, but for the $10 that's fine. You drop it, so what, just buy another one. For a simple DC test on CAT-5e cable runs is great. this beats the huge expensive ones for $100 or even $1,000 with features I don't need or no time to read the manual to figure out how it works.

Inexpensive but an invaluable tool for testing ethernet! I ran some ethernet cables and this tester was able to tell me that one of my punches wasn't correct. Saved me so much time and effort!

This worked great hardwiring my 6 cameras.

I decided to try my hand at running ethernet cable and terminating the ends myself and saw a video where someone recommended this device for testing. When I tested the first cable I terminated, no lights flashed on the tester, so i thought it was broken. Then I discovered that I had held the RJ45 plugs upside down when installing them on the cable, effectively reversing the order of the individual wires in the cable. Once I installed the plugs properly, the tester lights flashed 1 through 8 as I'd hoped. Another great moment in history!

Worked fine out of box but shortly after was no longer able to sense pin one. Fortunately, I have gotten in the habit of testing a known good cable each time before using this style ethernet tester. Otherwise I might have pulled good cables out of the walls. These cheap testers only test continuity, but for most purposes that is adequate. The tester needs to send a voltage from the 9V battery in the master unit to a light in the receiver unit. When the circuit completes it also illuminates a light in the master unit. That is a really really low bar. But this unit failed even that. I would rate this unit "pathetic". Still within the return period but it will cost me as much in time and gasoline to return it as it cost. There are better units for even less. The prior one I had lasted about a decade of hard use.

Da ich bei mir im Zimmer neulich eine Netzwerkdose in die Wand gesetzt habe und diese nicht funktionierte habe ich mir diesen Tester gekauft. Zwei Batterien eingelegt und schwupps Problem gefunden. Dazu habe ich einfach das Empfangsteil mit einem kurzen Patch Kabel mit der Dose verbunden, während ich diese auflegte. So konnte ich Ader für Ader sehen ob die Verbindung hergestellt wurde oder nicht. Es gibt die Teile hier schon für unter 10€, aber ich habe gerne dieses für 11,99€ gekauft, da ich es so schon am nächsten Mittag bis 13 Uhr erhalten habe. Klar Kaufempfehlung wenn man Netzwerk- oder Kabel auflegt, selbst wenn es nur eine ist. Die nächste kommt bestimmt bald und bis da nimmt das Gerät auch nicht viel Platz weg :)
