How is the sound quality and volume? Trying to buy earphones that can withstand my sweating from running and going into the sauna.

I use these for swimming, sitting in a sauna, hot tub, and steam room. Sound quality is good but keep in mind, these are water proof headphones. You sacrifice sound quality for waterproofness.

How do the Sport Buds compare to the original Swim Buds?

I have been through about 3-4 different products and the answer I have for you is that it all depends on what shape auditory canals you have, I have to use one size for my left ear and another for my right! All in all, I was very satisfied with this product because of the great diversity it offers to you. They seem to "get it" that not everybody has the same size ear holes. That being said, I have not experienced a product that can stand more than 45 minutes in the pool with continuous freestyle swimming without needing some kind of adjustment, which I think is pretty good.Nothing and nobody is perfect. I would highly recommend this product.

Do the buds from the short cord disconnect for the other buds to attach to? They look like they do not!

The rubber buds are removable so that the extra buds fit on. Good headphones.

While swimming lanes is the audio quality good enough to listen to audio books? My current pair (bone conducting) are not...

Yes, I can listen fine (on IPod Shuffle). My problem is I forget to count the laps because I'm involved in the book. I've only used these earbuds with the Ipod Shuffle, so I don't know how well it would work with a different player.
