Dunkirk (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray) “Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. Review: Masterpiece of Cinema - This retelling of the true story of the Dunkirk rescue is great. I suspect this film will find itself on short lists of superior war movies in time. A very well done movie. Review: Awesome. - The story telling method in Dunkirk is one of a kind and masterful. We see three converging threads in a central story. At one point all of the characters will come together but they are presented along their own timelines. The first time I saw the movie I was disoriented at first but soon grew to understand the direction the tale was head. Like the confused soldiers, airmen and civilians order came from chaos. The action sequences are truly terrifying. We see ships sinking, huge objects now wallowing in the sea, solid surfaces slipping out from beneath the feet of the men they carry. The dogfight scenes are intense. I found myself leaning in the banking planes. In Dunkirk, we rarely get a full sense of the aerial situation. We see the pilot's face more often than his view and when we see his view it is restricted, not some godlike sense of what is happening. Only on occasion do the camera's pull back and give us an idea of the over situation. Tension builds in most scenes and the way the story is cut together it builds and builds until the moment when the characters come together. Dunkirk is a story of a victory within a defeat. It is not an attempt to be a historical documentary. It is an amalgam of experiences and accounts assembled into a telling that allows you to enter the world of those who lived it. If you want to understand history, movies are not the place to look since that is not their purpose. I was entertained by this movie. Watching is a second time at home I felt the tension and emotions that welled up when I saw this in the theater.

Beware of the Infamous Troll Reviews
I’m not going to go on and on about what an incredible film and hands down to Chris Nolan and all that garble. I would like to simply ask what does any of your personal views on this film have to do with the quality of the disc itself? When I came on here to actually read legitimate reviews about the disc, resolution, etc all I get is a trail of Troll reviews about what a bore this movie was and all that nonsensical writing. Write actual reviews worth reading and understand that reviews on Amazon have more to do with the product quality over the subject matter. If you want to ramble on about how much you hate this film go find an actual forum online and have a ball! As for anyone who has yet to see this film understand that the simple reason that there is very little dialogue is because the director wanted to focus on what it would actually feel like to be on those beaches awaiting eminent doom or slim salvation. But people want the same old same old mashed up and cliche war film after another, with those epic speeches right before a big battle. What you get in this film is brilliant accuracy and respect for the actual historic event. It’s not your typical blockbuster and if you appreciate the subtleties in life you will appreciate what Chris Nolan set out to do with Dunkirk. You don’t need to see a giant Nazi flag waving to be able to tell who the enemy is if you know a little bit of history on WWII. You don’t need useless long drawn out dialogue with the rumble of bombing raids in the background. It’s about time someone had the courage to take us front row to actually sense what so many sensed during those days on the beaches in Northern France, fear.

Christopher Nolan does not disappoint as usual!
Ever since I saw The Dark Knight, I've been a fan of Christopher Nolan's films. The cinematography in his films are always top notch and so their was no question about buying the 4k version of this film. We all know the countless amount of period pieces that surround this very encapsulating point in time and I certainly feel Dunkirk is a stand out among those films for several reasons. The story of Dunkirk in itself is a very intriguing tale as we watch several protagonists with different objectives all intersect into a very intense situation that certainly has you glued to screen for every minute. If there is criticism to be had, its Nolan's manipulation of time as you will soon discover that things aren't so straight forward as one would have thought them to be. As much as I enjoy the element of playing with time, I felt like Nolan didn't quite merge these events together in a succinct way which is surprising given his work on Memento was so amazing. While it can already be said that the visuals of Dunkirk look quite amazing in 4K with texture details looking sharper then I've ever recalled seeing them, the real MVP is definitely the full sound track used for the title something that often gets overlooked. It was well worth holding out on this title to experience the DTS Master Audio sound track in 5.1. From the beginning, the effects of the surround sound suck you into the movie immediately. This especially grows on you further when you experience scenes that take place in the air where an accompanying orchestra gives you a strong sense of just how dire the entire situation is something I honestly wanted to see more of as I couldn't get enough of it. Ultimately, Dunkirk was a worth it watch and I certainly recommend the 4K experience with this film. I'm already fighting myself to not take a second look at this title which really speaks to how enjoyable this movie really was. Christopher Nolan always seems to do amazing job with his films and I certainly can't wait to see his next title baring it does have good reviews when it releases in July of this year.

TRUE MILITARY STORY OF BRITISH TROOPS
This movie is based on a true story of the English private citizens rescuing their British Troops from certain death as the Germans closed in on their position which was a beach head and no where to go. Private citizens with their private boats saving thousands of British WWII heros....

A breathtaking war movie without the gore
No spoilers: This combo includes DVD, Blu-ray and Digital. I must say the DVD surpasses the other two in terms of sound quality. I have surround sound headphones so the experience was exhilarating. I first got this as a rental and after first viewing my 9 year old and myself were immediately captivated by the no nonsense war thriller about a daring rescue that avoided a massacre that would have been of epic proportions. The movie is shot in periodic time lapses of the same scenes switching from the point of view of the fighter jets, the sailors and the army awaiting a miraculous rescue. The ending depicts a mesmerizing landing of a Spitfire fighter jet and self-sacrifice and so for that reason alone I would highly recommend adding this to your collection. A word of advice would be to get surround sound headphones because the default TV speakers will not do justice to the score. I highly recommend the DVD for sound and the blu-ray for picture quality. One last thing, the 'home' scene always brings tears to my eyes. I also learned a lot about Spitfires after watching the movie and this movie was very educational too. A lot of people criticizing this movie do not understand that Dunkirk was not under heavy bombardment because the allied forces had formed a formidable perimeter around Dunkirk suburbs, thus buying time and allowing a daring and miraculous rescue. Thank you to all the people behind this brilliant movie that epitomizes the true definition of humanity. In my honest opinion, the best picture of 2017. 10/10

This movie is a harshly accurate and very beautifully done effort I strongly suggest you see it
The technical quality of this movie so far as the transfers concerned is impeccable it is without a doubt one of the cleanest transfers that I've seen in a good long time this movie is not a rah rah rah we won the war kind of movie in fact It's rather depressing but it's fairly accurate on the whole it's very accurate even though some compromises were made the story got told and that's what's important Dunkirk was a terrible situation for the Brits and for the World At Large the French fought brilliantly to help get as many troops off as they could the British people Rose to the challenge beautifully this movie illustrates this and they do a damn good job portraying the story in my opinion this is a must-see for everyone it Paints the war as it is unpleasant violent and wasteful and that's a very accurate betrayal if your history aficionado this is a movie for you the technical quality is excellent I'll give it five Stars but I wish I could give it 10 it is a sobering picture which means that the people who produced it did a an excellent job but again I w a r n you this is a gritty realistic portrayal it was a very seriously bad situation for the British but I think everybody needs to see most times War is like this thank you for taking the time to read my review I hope it's helpful I just saw the movie and so I'm kind of at a loss for words except to say that the movie did exactly what they intended it to do I strongly suggest you see it
