Medical student Amy Brenner is trapped on a locked psychiatric ward, haunted by secrets. As patients and staff vanish, Amy must escape before becoming the next victim. Review: Amazing - Ward D by Freida McFadden is a psychological thriller set in a locked psychiatric ward during a single night shift. Amy Brenner, a medical student, is assigned to an overnight shift at the psychiatric hospital’s high-security unit, Ward D. The facility houses some of the most dangerous and unstable patients, making the shift unsettling from the start. As the night progresses, strange and disturbing events begin to unfold. Patients seem to be acting oddly, noises echo through the halls, and Amy starts feeling like someone is watching her. With limited staff on duty and no easy way out, she becomes increasingly paranoid. When people start disappearing, Amy realizes she may be trapped in a nightmare far worse than she imagined. As secrets from her past start to surface, she must figure out what’s real, who she can trust, and how to survive the night in Ward D before it's too late. Freida McFadden is known for her gripping thrillers, and Ward D is no exception. The novel maintains a fast pace, making it a quick, suspenseful read. The confined setting of the psychiatric ward creates a claustrophobic, eerie atmosphere, heightening the tension throughout the book. The book keeps you on edge with its unpredictable twists and unsettling setting. The short chapters and constant action make it hard to put down. As with McFadden’s other novels, the story includes unexpected reveals that keep readers guessing. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with a creepy hospital setting, Ward D is an entertaining choice. It’s a fast, engaging read with plenty of suspense, though it may not be the most complex thriller out there. Fans of Freida McFadden’s other books will likely enjoy it, but those looking for deeply layered psychological narratives might find it a bit predictable. Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: Fast paced - Ward D, is another fast paced psychological thriller by Freida McFadden, that is set in a psychiatric unit. Medical student Amy Brenner has dreaded this night for a long time. An overnight rotation on Ward D, the locked psychiatric unit is standard training, but Amy has secrets buried in those halls. Secrets she can’t let anyone discover. What begins as a tense but routine shift quickly spirals into something far more sinister. Patients vanish. Staff disappear. Shadows stretch long down sterile corridors. The unit itself seems to have turned into a trap, a place where questions only multiply and answers can cost you your life. And as Amy tries to make sense of the chaos, she must confront not only the danger around her, but the darkness she thought she’d escaped long ago. This is a fast paced novel with plenty of action, combining medical life with psychological terror, creating an atmosphere thick with dread. Well paced, full of tension, suspense, and twists, make this an entertaining read.

Full of plot twists, but let down by the ending!
I really enjoyed most of this book, plenty of plot twists along the way. I was so looking forward to finding out how the story ended, but was ultimately disappointed to be honest. There is also a ridiculous warning at the start of the book, telling you that Mental Health wards are not really like those in this novel!

Great read!
I loved this book with all its twists and turns! I don't generally read medical mysteries but after this book I think I might have to! Best book I've read in a while, really good plot and character development! Loved the ending, rounded the book up quite nicely. No cliffhangers (yay) and overall an amazing book!

An addictive, fast paced, page turner from the Queen of suspense!
"The best lies stay close to the truth" Plot: Medical student Amy is in her 3rd year residency. As part of her training she must gain experience in every medical field. Including, the hospital's mental health unit known as Ward D. This is a shift she is dreading and as the night starts, she bumps into familiar faces she's rather avoid. As the clock ticks down on her 12 hour shift, it becomes apparent that something very unsettling is going on in Ward D. Staff and patients are going missing. Amy doesn't know what is real, what is a reflection of her own fear and imagination or who she can trust. One thing is very clear, the whole ward is in danger and Amy must do everything she can to survive the night. Having struggled with my own mental health for years, I took this book at face value for the work of fiction that it is. I have to say I really enjoyed it. The fast pace and short chapters made this a very addictive read that I couldn't put down. I've never said "one more chapter" so many times as I did with this book. I love Freida's writing style and find her books easy to read and really enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book to suspense, thriller fans. However, if you would prefer a book that accurately represents mental health issues and avoids the stigma surrounding them, then this may not be the book for you.

Lots of twists and turns
I ended up liking this a lot. A great twisty ending! Well written but I did lag a bit in the middle and might have given up if I had not previously enjoyed other Freida McFadden books. I'm not really sure why the tension did not hold up for me as well as it should. Perhaps it was the "now and then" structure. I have never liked the jump back and forth in timelines, and I think in this instance it served to break the tension of the "now" situation rather than enhance it. However the last thirty pages had me holding my breath and the end [if not entirely unexpected] left me with an echo of sadness. Hence the five stars rating.

A thrill ride of a book!
There are lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I enjoyed it as a light read but it also made me think about how psychiatric illnesses are treated and how indviduals cope with them when they leave hospital.

Älskar att köpa böcker från amazon, snabbt enkelt och smidigt. Böckerna kommer fram i bra skick och är oftast några kronor billigare. Själva boken är en klassisk Freida Mc Fadden. Spännande, lättläst och underhållande!

There isn’t much that surprises me when it comes to reading books. I’m what you’d call a seasoned vet. Having said that, you have to be a pretty good author to fool me in a story line, but I have to say McFadden did an amazing job in keeping the reader guessing. Amy Brenner is a medical student and just recently went through a breakup with her boyfriend, Cameron. Although she would have preferred to not be assigned to Ward D, it was a terrific way for her to earn extra credit and to take her mind off of her breakup. But, as luck would have it, if you can call it that, poor Amy was not only assigned to Ward D, the psyche unit, but her ex-boyfriend was also assigned. And to make matters even worse, one of the patients there was someone that Amy knew very personally. Amy was upset and distraught. Even though, she needed the extra credit to help catapult her medical career. Try as he might, Cameron did everything to let Amy know he made a mistake in breaking up with her. And Amy wasn’t even trying to hear it. She had been there and done that. Besides, Cameron was a huge suck-up and couldn’t get enough of Dr. Beck. It was driving Amy nuts. Speaking of which, Amy and Cameron were assigned patients they needed to follow throughout the evening. Dr. Beck made it clear what the rules were. He gave them the secret code to get out of the building, in case of emergency. He advised that the patients were allowed to roam around and be treated with the utmost respect and more importantly—no matter what they did, neither of them were to go near Seclusion Room One. Hmm? Why couldn’t they go near there? As Amy was making her rounds for the evening, she heard a noise coming from Seclusion One. It sounded like someone snarling and growling. But what was worse this person sounded like he was breaking through the door. Amy was terrified, but she knew no matter what she wasn’t going near that room. Amy returns to the lounge area to see what type of patients Cameron had been observing when she noticed she couldn’t find him. In fact, there were a few patients that were missing too. Where did they go and why? When Amy confronts Dr. Beck about the whereabouts of her friend, Cameron, and some of the patients, he’s just as baffled too. There was one patient everyone was terrified of and one whom Amy was anxious to meet, but would she? In order to find out more, you have to read the book. OMG! Let me tell you, I gobbled up this book so fast it made me angry that I finished it so quickly. This was one of the best horror books I’ve read in quite a while. I’m happy to report I figured it out, but McFadden threw in a twist at the end that caught me by total surprise. And for that, she gets major kudos. It takes one heck of an author to fool me, and she got me in the end. This is my type of horror book! I could not get enough of this story. She wrote the words off the pages. I felt terrified and my heart was beating fast. Those patients were pretty scary and not knowing what was happening was even worse. It’s not knowing that brings fear and makes for a good horror story. McFadden executed that well.
