It is all about trial and error, I found that 6 minutes is sufficient time to bake these pies, I made some custard tarts ("Mary Berry's" recipe) after experimenting with the time as I mentioned 6 minutes seemed to be about right for the Custard to set, also made a wooden dolly shaped to the bottom half of the pie dish to push the pastry into the mould, used the small cutter for these custard tarts, good fun gadget!

I ordered yesterday and it arrived today. I made beef cubes with some mixed veg and just used some ready rolled puff pastry. It comes with a ring cutter which is really handy so you know you're cutting the right size pastry.It's really simple to use. Heated it up for a minute then just used a bit of non stick spray. Pastry then filling then the lid- can't really be more simple. I used my own judgment for the timing and about 4min seems to be suitable.The pies are smaller than you would get in the shop but the nice thing is you can really put a good amount of filling in.I love this! One small amount of beef, one ready rolled pastry log made 7 pies with some filling left over. I think that's brilliant value. This is going to be a staple for me for left overs and batch cooking!

A great gadget that really works! Makes 2 excellent pies in just 8 minutes and they certainly don't have the proverbial "soggy bottom". It comes with a double sided cutter to make sure you have the correct size of pastry circles and works well with both puff and shortcrust. Ideal for a quick snack or dinner when you come in from work. I cut my pastry circles and keep them in the fridge or freezer (thaw before use) until required and just add the fillings of your choice. Perfect pies in minutes! Although the non stick coating is good, a silicon spatula is needed to remove the pies as they will be very hot and you need to beware of the plates themselves. Allow the plates to cool a bit before wiping them with kitchen roll, which is all the cleaning it requires! I'd highly recommend this gadget to everyone.

Really pleased we bought this although not very impressed that the pastry cutter was missing from the box. Amazon only offered a part discount, would have liked them to have arranged to have a cutter sent to me but they didn't. Contacted Gourmet Gadgetry and they were brilliant and sent me one immediately. Only used the pie maker once so far, we made pear and chocolate pies and were very impressed with how they turned out. Hoping to try meditteranean veg, chicken and veg and beef and veg pies soon. Would definitely recommend, excellent product.

Amazing, we use this with our leftovers to make pies for lunches in the week. I cheat and use ready roll pasty and roll it a little thinner and can get 7 pies from the roll. As per other reviews pies take approx 8 minutes to cook and I brush milk on the top. Our preference is to use puff pastry and frylight spray oil to grease the plates and this works well.

I cannot believe these previous reviews and by extention nor for the others in the field. The Pies are tiny. They are about the size you would expect from a Tesco deep fill Mince Pie and then with a 20-25mm rim of throw away seam.I will look upon reveiws with a little more care next time.One of the reviews say they were OK for a meal. For a child maybe.Save your money. Frankly I would expect the "large" single version to be as bad.Pity, I am useless at pastry and was looking forward to home made pies. Fine chance.James

Been using this for years, still works great but it’s a bugger to clean.

We have had this over a year now. Easy to use and clean still looks new. The pies are very nice and simple to make. Both savoury and fruit pies have turned out well. It is convenient and quick to use.
