Make This Medieval Castle (Usborne Cut-out Models)

Excellent project for a rainy day, or rather, rainy week.
This is the first Usborne cut out model that we have purchased with the intention of building it as a family. This worked to an extent as my 10 year old daughter enjoyed it but my 5 year old son lost interest after about 10 minutes of working on it.The model itself goes together well if the instructions are followed. It helps to have a good pair of scissors, a modelling knife, a cutting board and a metal straight edge. My daughter did the scissor work and I would finish off the tricky bits with the modelling knife. For glueing I used an extra strong glue stick for pieces that needed to be moved in to position or for tight fits. For other items like building the wall sections I used a hot glue gun. This combination worked well. It is also worth pointing out that accurate scoring of the fold lines makes assembly easier and gives a neater finish. Make sure you build it on to a good, firm baseboard. In total it took about 15 hours to finish. The end product is very impressive and even my son took an interest in it when completed. We're now deciding which one to do next, probably taking into account subjects that will be taught at school this year.Highly recommended for promoting concentration, accurate working, dexterity, following instructions and getting a sense of pride in a job well done.

Great joint family craft project
I love to give my children the same toy and craft experiences that I hard in the 70’s and 80’s. Ofcourse with the current generation that is glued to IPads and their Playstations I would be fooling myself to assume they like all of it. Yet our son that has a big interest in knights and castles was quite willing to assist with the construction of this castle. And even his older sister joined in a later stage.Afterward they played for quite a while with the creation and some plastic 1/85 scale Teutonic Knights I had lying around. This set is of moderate complexity, so I had to take the lead with both cutting and gluing. All that is need is a fine Paris of scissors, sturdy glue and we used some small magnetic cubes (available on Amazon) to hold parts together while drying. The children could be handed partial jobs and projects. All in all a nice joint, vintage craft exercise that is educational as well.

Excellent when finished.
This is fiddly to make but with one adult and one 6y old it has produced a brilliant castle. The detail on the images is fantastic and the man sitting on the toilet was a firm favourite with the 6y old. The book/castle has kept him interested for hours and he has learnt so much about castles from this hands on approach. We used a combination of double sided tape and glue gun to fix the pieces together.

Bought for my son school project. Look ok but ...
Bought for my son school project. Look ok but difficult to put together. Some parts didn't fit. It was bigger the expected and needed to reinforce the base. It took several hours to finish with the 2 of us.

Great Buy
I got this item to make a start on environment miniatures for my home D&D game and I can say that I am very happy with what I got here. I can kit out a small town for such a cheap price compared to the hundreds it would cost me to get plastic miniatures buildings. I think I will be repeating here in the future.

Great to do- make sure you get a glue gun!!!
This was bought for my daughters year seven project. As she was tasked to make a castle but didn’t want to do it with the usual toilet rolls and left over cardboard. It is very involved and there are a fed fiddly bits but over all it was good fun and nice to do as a family. Build time was roughly 16 hours. And I would not recommend attempting it with out a glue gun as this really helped speed things up. Overall our daughter was very happy with the outcome and we think it looks great for a first attempt at something like this

Molto bello

Great Project
Wow. It is an absolute crying shame that this book is no longer in print. I will definitely seek to find more in this series. The papercraft is highly detailed, the paper is super quality, and the project is complex. I would do this with a child 10 years or older as it will take quite a few hours to put this together. The realism is wonderful.

Mediecal Castle
Alles Super! Jederzeit wieder. Superschneller Versand, reibungsloser Ablauf.Schade, dass es so wenig dieser Art etwas anspruchsvoller Bastelarbeiten gibt. Spielen lässt sich auch damit und so ganz nebenbei lernt man eine Menge über diese Zeit.
