Would recommend to anyone wanting to repair or maintain their own machine
I was gifted an old Singer serger, 20+ yrs old. Wouldn't form a loop for anything and had a clicking sound. No repair places within a 100 mile distance and business selling sergers charged too much, or declined, to look at it. Having no experience with sergers I tried everything I could find on youtube and read in articles. Beyond frustration and ready to throw it out, I accidentally purchased this as a kindle version. And Amen! After weeks of trying to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it, this book showed me the general process. The timing of the needle arm and lower looper where off and this showed me how to fix it. The instructions are general, as the writer says most machines are essentially the same, and gives general reference ranges or distances. I just had to figure out what the distances were for my machine. It took time and patience, but my gifted baby is running like a dream. I will be purchasing his book on sewing machines as well.

Good book about how a serger works and how it is adjusted
This is a very good book, informational and clearly written. The author knows what he is talking about and speaks from experience.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about the guts of how a serger works and what the repair person does to adjust the "timing." It starts as a good book for anyone committed to learning more about serging, and finishes as a good book for someone considering repairing sergers.I've only read one other serger repair books, and of the two, I would recommend this one.

Serger guide
There probably is NOT a better book on Sergers. If you know everything written in this book. You will have a Master's Degree . I hope to use this info to repair the 3 sergers I have quit using because it is complicated. I usually buy a new sergerr and hope someday to fix them. I think I will be able to now. This author explains in great detail. However, someone who is a novice should be warned. Working on a Sergerr is for A person familiar with sewing machines and Sergers. Great information. Love this book.

The Serger & Overlock Master Guide ...
This book is very different from other books I have purchased about using a Serger. This author not only describes what a serger does but describes specific machines. The author goes into detail about the maintenance of various machines as well as the appropriate oil, needles and thread to use. There are no projects in this book, just factual, useful information. There is a very practical glossary at the end of the book as well as many links to helpful resources. II consider this an important resource to keep handy.

I'm not sure who would need this book?
This book is certaining comprehensive and covers all the information anyone would ever need for home and industrial sergers, but I'm not sure who would need that information. There is a nice review of machines currently available (2014) but prices change so it would only be guideline information. The first part of the book covers what a serger is and how it is used which would be good if you were not familiar with what a serger is. There is a nice section on needles and threads but most people new to sergers aren't going to need to know more than they need 3 to 4 cones of polyester thread to get started. There is a discussion of industrial serger machines which would not apply to the usual home sewer. The section on mechanical information and repairs would not apply to a home sewer either because a new machine will come with a warrenty and they can take it to the dealer if it needs a check up or repair. At the 86% point there is a very nice glossary that takes up the rest of the book.So who would buy this book? The home sewer new to sergers? No, everything they need to know will be in the owner's manual. A serger repair person? No, it isn't that comprehensive or technical. A more experienced sewer who has used a serger before and wants to update their machine? Maybe, but the prices and model numbers will only be useful for a year or so, if that long.So I can't really recommend this book. The owner's manual that comes with a new serger will have much more useful information about that particular machine. The diagrams in the book are not as good as the ones in my owner's manual to determine how to set the proper tension. As for prices and which model performs the best, a recent recommendation from Consumer's Report would be more reliable and you can usually get that information from a public library or subscribe to the magazine.

This book helped me understand my new serger right away! I'm an experienced seamstress, had used an industrial serger in the past, so I was already familiar with these machines.... This author explains everything nice & easy in plain simple terms for anyone to understand....

it all depends on what you need from a guide like this.
Have been having a few difficulties with my own serger and found this book quite helpful. It was clear and concise. Some may not find it much help, it all depends on what you need from a guide like this.

Good detailed book hadny as a reference
Bought this together with the sewing machine book, this is better for all things over-lockers and is quite useful, it does mention a serger that I disposed of because it kept giving me problems so bought another make, if I had this book at the time I may have been able to fix it rather than dump it. Looks to be worth its money and could be useful for anyone with a serger to help if things go awry.
