Cat Mate Electromagnetic Cat Flap for Small to Average-Sized Cats, White

Have recently had issues with a neighbours cat gaining access via our old cat flap. Had previously had an alternative cat flap with access gained by collar magnets but found that a determined cat could push past the latch. Not so with this one. The latch resists the head butting efforts of our neighbours cat but responds easily to our cats collars . Very pleased with the product

(Full Review) When I 1st had my cat I chose this particular cat flap unit to be fitted in the new external kitchen door because of the 4-way locking ability was perfect for all my needs. It lasted 10years and would still of been ok if not for the shadow boxing the cat chose to do on it fighting the bigger cats from the relative safety of indoors. So over time the flap and whole unit took a battering. I'm happy to say she's grown out of that phase now. So when choosing a replacement unit it was a simple choice and much easier to pick the exact same one because size wise the fitting would be simple. I found Amazon to be the cheapest by far than anywhere else I looked with most units selling upwards of £50!! The Cat Mate crew have made a great adjustment to this latest model by making it a Soft Closing flap. Essentially by reducing the weight of the magnet and flap itself. This is a big improvement as the previous model used to bang shut every time it was used. Now I barely hear it at all. A big plus point! The negative being that on occasion the flap doesn't quite close because of the reduced strength of the magnet, but I haven't experienced any unwanted visitors after 3months so I don't see it as a problem. Update: Buy magnets via link below. Wrap Only 3 in cling film to protect from weather. Add a 4th to use the sticky label. Place outside of flap above where existing magnet is. This will prevent flap staying ajar. Neodymium 20×6×1.5mm (south) The unit works by installing a 9v battery (not supplied) which lasts absolutely ages as only a small current is needed. Your cat wears a magnet which you fit on the collar that isn't too intrusive to them. Make sure the 'paw' is facing outwards. The 4-way locking comprises: • Fully Lock • Fully Unlock • Lock on the Inside • Lock on the Outside So for instance you can set it to lock from inside meaning your cat can enter (maybe last thing at night) then not get back out again. Or alternatively if you want your cat to stay out you can set it to prevent the cat coming back in until you are ready. Only the cats with a magnet can enter through the flap, even if set to unlock. This product is ideal if you either have one cat or you are happy for all your cats to follow the same regime. If you have more than one cat and maybe you need to keep a kitten indoors then Cat Mate make a Micro Chip unit where by you can individually program each chip (again worn on the collar) to allow entry/exit. I only have one cat at present so this suits all my needs. Template and screw fixtures for different depth fittings and 2 collar magnets are all supplied. We've had this installed for a few months now and are pleased with it. It does everything that it promises. It only uses magnets to open, but as we live in the middle of nowhere, there wasn't likely to be other cats around using magnet opening cat flaps so that wasn't going to be (and hasn't been) an issue. It took the more timid cat a while to get used to, as there is a distinct "click" as the cat approaches, causing her to back off then try again, "click" again.... you get the picture. When she got hungry enough, she started using it, the other 2 cats were fine. I bought spare magnets, but haven't needed them because we bought good quality collars. One star is missing only because it would have been nice to have some sort of battery low LED on the door, as the other day the battery died and I didn't notice for some time that the cats were all outside in the rain because they couldn't get in. The only other drawback with the cats having magnets hanging around their necks, is that they stick to the metal water bowl every time they drink and the cats constantly bring home rusty nails and other metal bits hanging around their neck.

Works well sometimes. Sometime the cat manages to forget its managed to get through it before and the clicks frighten it.

Delighted to find this product. In my view, well made and very strong. Good value for money. A perfect fit - replicated the previous cat flap (many years old) which was the same make, so could use the existing screw holes making it easy to install.

I find that it works ok, However, the battery cover dropped off and the battery fell out. It only happened once so maybe it wasn't on enough, or maybe the door was slammed by someone. I bought it to let my cat come in and out without the neighborhood cats coming in, but now it seems that we have it set so he can go out but has to ask to come in which s fine. The magnet fell off, but we found it so it's not lost. No matter what I did I could not convince my daughter's small Maltese Poodle to use it at all. It's on the rear porch outside door so we just leave taht open when she's visiting.

My cat no longer has unwanted visitors coming through his flap, easy to fit, perfect magnet strength, it’s sturdy, easy for him to use, easy to clean and has the right amount of noise level so I know when Ernie is home.

C’est une solution pratique et efficace. Notre chat hésite encore un peu à l’utiliser, mais cela demande simplement un temps d’adaptation. De notre côté, le produit fonctionne parfaitement et répond totalement à nos attentes. L’installation est facile grâce au kit de pose fourni, avec des explications claires. À noter qu’une pile est nécessaire pour le fonctionnement automatique de la porte, mais la consommation semble raisonnable. Un produit bien conçu, de bonne qualité et facile à mettre en œuvre. Je recommande sans hésiter !

This is simple and very effective. As it uses only a standard 9 volt battery in the door and a magnetic dongle on the cat's collar its a lot cheaper and more reliable than other doors using an RFD. Great product.

Its terrible , the noise of the switch unlocking is so loud it scares the cats. And the locking mechanism snaps back within seconds, to the cats have to repeatedly keep pushing the door all the while its firing the switch scaring them. Im only back here on Amazon to find a replace and saw this still advertised. Buy at your own peril, you have been warned.

My cat lost her collar with the magnet for her door - very inconvenient as my cats go in and out all day through the magnetized cat door - (we live on Maui and I have a large tropical garden). I was delighted that I could buy these replacements which work even better than the ones the door came with. I also have two cats so having an extra on hand is essential.
