The life of super-yuppie J.C. is thrown into turmoil when she inherits a baby from a distant relative. Review: Still a Gem - This is one of my favourite films of all time, about a hard headed business woman, J. C. Wiatt, who suddenly has her whole world turned upside down by the unexpected arrival of a baby. When J.C. inherits something in a will from a distant relative, the last thing she's expecting it to be is a baby. Once she has got over the shock, she decides to put the baby up for adoption, much to the relief of her live in boyfriend. But while he is away, she bonds with the child and is unable to give her up. Her partner cannot tolerate a young child in his life, so they break up. However, J. C. finds it hard being able to juggle a demanding career, with the responsibility of bringing up a child and her work begins to suffer. It doesn't help that she has an ambitious co worker after her job, and in the end he succeeds, leaving J.C. with no choice but to resign from her position. Then begins the second part of the film which is totally different from the first, where J.C. leaves New York and moves to Vermont. She starts her own business selling baby food and meets a man, a country vet and settles in to a new calmer sort of life. Then an opportunity comes along that gives J.C. the chance to return to New York, a success. Now she has a hard decision to make. Will she make the right one? Although this film was made in the eighties, it stands the test of time and is still a gem. Review: Great - Brilliant film

Love this film
I absolutely love this film - watched this years ago when it was shown on television, and then I just had to buy it when it came out on DVD. It has a great story and I think Diane Keaton really shines (as does the baby!), and together it makes this film memorable. I don't know exactly which bit appeals to me the most - whether it's that Diane Keaton's character - J.C. Wiatt, not only manages to take on the challenge of suddenly becoming a mother (after inheriting a baby!) but also when she as good as puts two fingers up to her old employers, when she starts her own extremely successful baby food business in the country, and she shows them that she really can "have it all" (which you'll understand better when you watch this film). This film comes highly recommended, and is one that you will watch over and over again.

This is one of my favourite films for a chill-out session
This is one of my favourite films for a chill-out session. Perhaps not a totally original storyline, but it works really well - as others have said, possibly down to the magnificent acting by Diane Keaton. The only thing that lets it down for me is that the very young child doesn't age at all - even though they move to the country (to a house that barely makes it through their first winter), and then we see Diane set up a business that becomes so successful an old client of hers want to buy her out..... there's no way that child wouldn't have aged at least a year (more likely at least 2) in the time it would take for that to happen on even a small scale. This DVD purchase was made to replace my VHS copy. I do still have a VCR player, but the tape is getting a bit old and has earned it's retirement - I hadn't realised this film was anywhere near as old as it is !!!
