Super long and great magnet
I am a Locksmith and this tool is a great addition to doing lock outs in vehcles that have the keys setting on the seat or console. The magnet is very strong and I can fish the magnet around to reach lots of places in the car. Excellent buy.

Perfect for fetching bolt dropped into engine compartment
I had dropped a Toyota battery clamp bolt, of length 10", into an engine compartment. I needed to reach 7" past a hole about 9/8" wide to grab the bolt. The bendable shaft was crucial, in that it gave me control over the angle of the head as I drew the head back through the hole. I unsheathed the magnet, because this improved the grip on the bolt. The sheath is a hollow metal cylinder, not shown in product pictures. One can place it over the magnet to avoid magnet sides catching other metal, or one can remove it for maximum grip. While the shaft length was overkill in the end, I was glad to have it. If I had struggled to get the bolt back through the hole, the length gave me the option to instead navigate the bolt to the ground. I did pick up a 5lb weight plate, confirming that much lifting capacity. That experiment required care: gripping the plate anywhere off the center of gravity led to the magnet slipping against the plate. For a working load weighing the full 5lb, I'd want a far-stronger magnet.

Not very rugged - But it's long!
It's long - like 4 feet total. The flexible shaft seems to be hollow aluminum and requires pretty much torque to bend it back to straight or just change the bend. It feels like it will soon break if I bend it more than a few times. The metal has no spring-back so you're actually stretching it with every use and at some point I think something has to give. Magnet has enough pull to lift a metal flashlight and a 64 427 Chevy oil pump (cast iron), so that's enough for me. Everybody should have one, so I got it - just hope it last 20 years like my old magnetic retrievers.

Sooooo flexible and more than a magnent
I got this because I got tired of dropping screws and tools while working on my cars. You can drop something in the engine compartment and it never hits the ground with these newer cars. This tool so soft of aluminum that you can bend it to conform to any angle, any direction you need it to go. And the magnet is plenty strong. And... I am doing some remodeling in my home. Drop something in the open wall? No problem. I even have bent the end of it into a hook to grab a wire I was trying to route through the ceiling and it worked great! I will never regret getting this gem of a tool.

Bendable but sturdy enough so you can steer it
The tool worked for me: I wanted to fish a screwdriver bit (just the front part) from the bottom of the inside of an armored door, the only (easy) access being the gap beside the keylock. During the "trip" down the interior of the door, despite sticking to the metal door, I was able to steer/push it downwards (due to its relative sturdiness) to reach the bottom. On the return "trip" I could bend it in order to control the way it came out slowly from the gap. Bonus feature: the screwdriver bit I fished had become magnetized after the pull-up (not magnetized originally) which made retrieving it through the tiny gap easier, since it stuck to the keylock. This was fortunate because the magnet would not fit to pass through the gap together with the screwdriver bit! All in all an honest tool. And the only one (due to length) that could reach the bottom of the door.

Powerful magnet
This would probably work well in certain situations but not for me. I dropped a small screwdriver into my engine bay compartment and it fell down where I cannot see it, probably only accessible from below. The magnet is so strong that it sticks to any nearby metal, so it is impossible to reach the area where the screwdriver apparently is. I can't get the magnet near enough to attract the screwdriver, it just sticks to any surrounding metal structure.

Good snatching power.
Great magnet! I was installing a Kwiset door knob lock on a aluminum hurricane impact door and one of the two screws fell through the lock hole into the door well. There is no way to retrieve the screw unless the door is removed from the hinges and tilted to roll out the screw through the lock hole. As soon as I inserted this magnet all the way to the bottom of the door, I heard a loud click and as I pulled out the magnet, there was the screw that had fallen a few days before. Fantastic power magnet!

Unit has a great reach
The end of this unit has a very strong magnet mounted at a slight recess in an upside down aluminum cup. This allows you to reach down alongside an iron surface without affecting the magnet from the sides if you are trying to retrieve an object down between metal surfaces when you are working in car engine compartments or car doors for example. Really an excellent unit.
