Q: how good is it at picking up hair from commercial grade carpet?

I don't have pets so I don't know. We have some plush rugs and some close nano rugs. It does a good job on both. I find it works best when pushed quickly with some downward pressure. I really like the one we have and would recommend it for quick pickups

Q: Can this sweeper be used on wood floors?

Works especially well on hard floors. I don't see why it couldn't be used on wood.

Q: Will this work on regular thickness carpet as well as rugs and bare floors

This machine is amazing, works on most carpets, and bare floor, better on carpet.

Q: How big is the box it ships in? We want to take one on an airplane

The handle comes in 2 parts, so the box is about two feet long, as I remember. Dimensions are approx. 10"x3"x24" I would guess.
