Not really all it's cracked up to be
Using this with a T-KJr2-OS model water heater, which may be the limitation I'm experiencing. You can cycle through diagnostic info like input water temp, current output water temp, and gallons per minute, and set a desired output temp using the up & down arrows.First problem is this unit won't override the heater's minimum to turn on. To clarify, in the factory set up position of the dip switches, it's set to output 120º and the heater turns on at .8 gpm. If you turn the output temp down with this controller to say 105º, you will need to open the faucet up to 1.1 gpm. The lower you set the temp, the more water you need to be using. Also, though the unit reads out gpm in to the tenths place, it only will give info in .3 gpm increments, meaning it will go from .8 to 1.1 to 1.4. There is no way, however fine an adjustment you make to your faucet, to get it to say anything in between.-Which is a problem because it will output a pretty wide variation of temperature at the same desired output setting based on if you're at the top end or bottom end of one of these .3 gpm increments. For example, with the unit set to output 106º at just barely 1.1gpm, the actual output might be 120º, but if you up the flow to just short of 1.3 gpm, it will go down to about 106º.If you set it to 105º and just short of 1.1 gpm, depending on your input temperature, it may run for about 5 minutes and then decide to shut off the heater in the middle of your shower. It's nice to be able to modulate the temp without having to adjust dip switches, but accuracy is not really what I'd hoped for. Maybe it's more a review of the heater than the control unit, but I can't have hot water from the tap without running it halfway open or more which is a really strong stream, more than I would ever regularly use.

Takagi remote controller
The Takagi TK-RE02 control was fairly easy to install for a reasonably handy person. Running the wire is the hardest part. Connecting the wiring is straight forward. The unit is very east to use. The temperature can be changed with a tap of the up or down button. The diagnostic feature was an unexpected bonus. It details the water intake and output as well as the rate of flow. I can also turn off the until completely. Caution on the temperature. The unit is set at a temperature that will not scald. Make sure not to raise the temperature too much. I labeled my with a plastic label maker to not exceed the factory temperature of 122 degrees.

An essential item for my t-K jr tankless water heater
This item has come down greatly in price since I installed my T-Kjr tankless water heater. Many of the new units are sold with this item now. It allows much easier control of the water temperature in 7 degree increments. Trouble shooting the unit is simplified because it also gives water flow through unit indicating whether or not the inlet filter needs to be cleaned. Installation is very simple; only two wires to hook up in the water heater and two screws to hang the controller. The user provides the 22 gauge wire. This is really an essential item.
