Q: What is weight? I am a backpacker

I think you would barely notice the weight of the muscle roller. It is very light. It is about 18 inches long which is something you might want to consider when packing.

Q: I got one but it didn't come with any directions

It basically roll massage type tool. Put one hand on each handle and roll the massager over your muscle that hurts. By rolling it on your muscle it helps the circulation. Loosens the area and decreases pain

Q: Is the center piece a little pliable? I'd prefer a muscle roller that bends a little around what I'm rolling and isn't too stiff in the center.

The center bar is not pliable. The roller “beads” give a little, but not much. I use this muscle roller bar over my quadriceps and it hurts a bit when rolling over the knots. But it hurt when my physical therapist did it too. So the discomfort was expected.
