Works on new 2019 iMAC, too!
This is the perfect accessory for those with the need of connecting USB 2/3 devices or USB-C Devices to their 2019 iMac. In my case, I use several SD cards in all kinds of speeds and flavors - including microSD. I also use many different USB thumb drives which makes this handy and good looking device a perfect accessory for my needs. It "attaches" in the "ducts" along the bottom edge of your iMac. Installation is simple - but you MUST understand the concept. The unit easily fits within the palm of your hand - to give you a perspective. Four USB ports, a standard SD and a microSD port and a single USB-C port are on either side of the the USB ports. There is a "wheel" on the back or rear of the unit that controls two of the four plastic "tabs" that will hold the hub in place. Make certain that all four tabs are "in line", then, place the tabs "inside" the "ducts" of the iMac (to make this easier, you might want to lay the iMac down - on a towel or other soft, protective surface). Because the short USB-C cable attached to the hub is designed to fit directly into one of the two iMac Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports, installation of the hub will be nearest to those two ports. Once you have placed the tabs within the "ducts" of the iMac, firmly hold the hub in place as you turn the black wheel on the rear of the hub which will move two of the four tabs inside the "duct" until they have tightened the hub securely in place. Finger tight is all you need, plus a tiny bit of a nudge - but be careful to avoid over-tightening. The pictures of the product on Amazon are excellent examples of how nice this accessory looks. All of the ports worked perfectly. It is NOT self-powered but I've had no problem loading multiple USB devices and SD cards. There is a very dim grey/white indicator light between the fourth USB port and the USB-C port that lets you know the unit is powered. It is not anywhere within your view of the iMac. One note - as with most USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, make sure you FIRMLY seat the USB-C/Thunderbolt adapter into the iMac port! My first attempt "felt" like I had plugged in the cable but it required an extra "uuumph" before I heard and and felt the adapter actually "plug" into the iMac ports. This was true on both of the Thunderbolt ports on my iMac. Regardless, this is an excellent accessory that may make using your Mac a bit more enjoyable.

As advertised
This couldn't be easier to install, and everything works. I liked the way it attaches, solidly to my IMac , had it about a year now, everything works as it should, looks great too.

Fits Late 2012 iMac 27” with a USB-A adapter
This hub is very convenient on an iMac if you use usb/sd cards frequently. Installation took maybe 10 seconds. I’m not sure why some reviewers has issues. Spin the dial to flatten the prongs, insert into under vents, position where you want it, spin the dial to expand prongs finger tight. It’s very sturdy and doesn’t budge even with force. For those with older iMacs without usb-C, this works great with an usb-c to usb-a adapter. On my Late 2012 iMac 27” I used the rampow usb 3.0 adapter that costs a few bucks. SD and usb transfer speeds hold up and I haven’t had any issues. I don’t have any usb-C devices so I haven’t tested that slot.As for the finish, it’s a near match for the iMac aluminum. Unnoticeable unless at the right angle/lighting. This thing is quite expensive for a simple hub but well worth it if you want something that looks seamless and doesn’t add clutter.

Does what it's supposed to do
I've had this item a few weeks. Installation was helped by others in this forum who explained that one must align the tabs, insert the device up into the cooling ports of the monitor, and then twist the tensioning knob. This spreads the tabs and secures the device. It requires two hands to get a tight fit, but the items stays in place once attached in this way. Having said that, I still use two hands when plugging our unplugging things into the device. One to hold the plug and one to hold the Satechi device, to be sure it doesn't move or come out.All the ports work as promised. My SD card goes in and comes out with no difficulties. The device powers anything I have put into it, and whatever is plugged in appears in Finder as a connected device.Complaints? Poor instructions.Recommend? Yes.Would I buy it again? Yes. Knowing what I now know, and having used the device for a while, I would still make the purchase, or would purchase it again if I needed another, similar device.UPDATE 5/11/2021. It's been a year and this device c ontinues to perform flawlessly. I can still recommend it without reservation. Just remember to install it properly and to support it when removing things from it.

EASY to install, WORKS great.
be careful what you ask for... I like iMacs but always thought I wanted USB ports that were more accessible...well now that almost everything is in the clouds I finally have my wish come true. And now I wonder if I need them...but thats not a reflection on the product. The product works great. I was worried by the reviews that said how hard it was to install, it was so easy I thought at first I had it wrong. It's just common sense. See that wheel thing? it's there for a reason. Turn it. See the tabs spreading or closing? Wonder how the tabs should be inserted inside a single slot.. mmm.. lets try fully closed! Yes! but how do we keep it there? Lets try spreading open the clamps by turning the wheel! Brilliant. Trivial to install, and it stays in place. Once you figure out the wheel is not just decoration. I admit the instructions are the new norm, all pictures, and maybe hard to interpret, but think. just think.Okay, plug it in.. and voila. Works like a champ. I could slide drives or cords in and out of the ports with no problem. The read and write times were as fast as any. And the product is even color coordinated with my iMac. Score! Whats not to love? But like I said, now that I have it, I just need to find something to plug in it to feel smart. For temporary storage, works great. For long term, I can see why Apple put the ports in the back. Still, its nice to have the choice.. Apple should have given us this already.
