Victrola Stream Carbon - Wi-Fi Turntable, Works with Sonos - White

Setup from opening the box to listening to the first album was less than 15 minutes. Super smooth with zero glitches. I’ve spun about a half dozen albums and have enjoyed perfect sound quality without glitches. A little pricey but worth it for the seamless connection with my whole home Sonos system. Highly recommended if you want to connect a turntable to Sonos.

I purchased this as a replacement for another older turntable that was hardwired to our Sonos speaker. However, the needle had broken and was over $100 to replace, so I thought maybe I should just get a newer turntable that natively integrates with Sonos. Shipping was fast. That's where the plusses end. Firstly, when I unboxed the item, several of the branded stickers to indicate whether items were previously opened were torn, so I'm guessing this is an item that was previously returned. Everything looked to be like new, so I didn't worry about it. Setup involves guiding the tension band to the turntable, so that it can move the turntable. Then attaching the counter-weight to the arm (a bit of fiddling, but got it done). Then attaching the based, the rubber mat for the record player to rest on, and attaching the needle cartridge. I initially tried playing the unit without full setup via RCA cable to my Sonos 5 and it worked fine, although the record sounded slow at 33 RPM (you can only set it to 33, off, or 45). You can also play with the anti-skip setting, which didn't seem to do much or apply. As this was a game soundtrack LP I wasn't that familiar with I wasn't 100% sure but the sound was just off. I went ahead and did the pairing with app on my iPhone. It was okay, but after a mandatory update, the app sort of just froze and wouldn't let me do anything. I unplugged the turntable and hard-rebooted the app and then it came back. I was able to pair it with my Play 5 via the app. I tried a new album and played it and both my wife and I thought that the songs just sounded slow. There isn't anything obvious about how to adjust the speed, nor am I an audiophile or record player set-up expert. Frankly, at this price point, I kind of just expect to plug it in and have it work. I've had other turntables at half the cost work better with less fidgeting to be done than this one. Given that one of the main perks is wireless playing to Sonos, that part worked fine, if speaker selection was a bit fidgety in the app. Except the songs played off of any record just sound slow, as if the turntable isn't turning quite fast enough. I'm returning this only because I've wasted several hours today trying to make it work, it's brand new, and I don't get paid by the manufacturer to troubleshoot their products. I like the design, look, and feel, which aligns with an almost $600 price point, but the bottom line is that this unit didn't work out of the box. Some of the torn stickers seem to indicate someone else had previously received and returned this turntable, so maybe it's just a "looks good to me, let's rebox it" refurbishment issue. However, if I'm buying a previously opened product, I expect to get a discount and, most importantly, for it to work.

High quality, modern style record player. Wireless connection to the Sonos speakers throughout the house was easy to set up and is easy to use/control/adjust on the Sonos app bringing out the richness of sound that is unique to vinyl. It does have ports on the back if wired connection is needed/preferred. Price point is high, but you get what you pay for with this Victrola record player.

I think all the elements of a great product are there for the Victrola Stream. It beautiful design, the product has good market fit, and it has strong differentiated value for customers who are in the Sonos ecosystem. The true reason anybody purchases this is for its integration with Sonos. However, the execution of the product isn't fully baked. The app has poor UX and does not offer much in terms of customization for Victrola Stream. The overall sound quality is sub par. I think this would be extremely important because Sonos positions itself as a product offering a premium sound quality experience. Victrola Stream is not there when it comes to sound quality. There are issues with anti skate that need to be addressed and there were times when the auto-play feature would not connect. For a product at this price point, execution of this product should be flawless! And unfortunately, it simply just isn't. I sincerely hope their product team can work with their engineers to fix these issues and I hope a competitor builds a turntable that also connects to Sonos so consumers have more options in the market. Overall, I would not recommend this item. Find a cheaper option.

I’ve now tried (emphasis on “tried”) to buy and set up two of these Victrola Stream record players bought from the supposed Victrola store. BOTH WERE DEFECTIVE. The first had audio coming out of one channel only - I tested new cartridges, new styluses, no headshell wires, wired/unwired, different speakers, and could not fix the problem. I returned this unit. I bought a second unit from Amazon thinking I got unlucky with the first. The second unit was DOA - the motor would not spin up at all no matter what I tried; and yes, the belt was attached properly. I reached out to Victrola’s horrible Stream support and had to leave a message for them to call me back. I eventually got a call back a few days later and was told Amazon is NOT an authorized retailer for Victrola and that the Victrola store on Amazon is not affiliated with the company. The tech asked me if the units tamper seal on the main box had been opened on either of the two units and they both had already been opened. The Victrola rep said more than likely the units I bought were refurbished with new component accessories included (headshell, counterweight, etc). He told me to return the second unit to Amazon like I did with the first. I bought a third unit, this time from Best Buy (an authorized retailer) and lo and behold, this time the tamper seal wasn’t removed and the record player has no issues. Please do not buy this from Amazon.

Great product. So easy to setup and play wirelessly over Sonos. Loving playing my vinyl collection throughout my flat.
