Picture Piecing: Creating Dramatic Pictorial Quilts

I had always wanted to create landscape quilts but was too scared. This book is incredibly well written with lots of pictures. It gave me the confidence to make a landscape quilt. As I sewed the first three pieces together, I couldn't believe just how simple and fun Cynthia's process was. (It was so simple, I thought I must be doing it wrong, but no!) It looks really complicated but it is one of the easiest ways to make a quilt, honestly! There are so many shortcuts that can be used in any type of patchwork, not just landscapes or pictorial quilts. It's all straight line sewing and is very different to foundation piecing. The best thing is that you definitely do not have to be an artist to make a pictorial quilt. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is my favourite quilting book of all time and gave me a real passion for doing the kind of quilts I had admired and wanted to make. If you ever wanted to make a pictorial quilt, try this technique! Enjoy.

Amazing quilts and Cynthia England sells kits to make picture quilts using her technique. I have bought several of them and people are amazed at all the tiny seams that are required. They turn out beautiful.

Cynthia's quilts are absolutely AMAZING and she clearly explains the process from photo to making the quilt. It is a lot of work, but so is any work of art. These are NOT bet quilts!

This book is truly amazing, the quilts which have been produced are so inspiring, although I don't envisage making a similar one I have enjoyed making some cards adapting the techniques used in this book. Maybe one day I'll attempt a quilt???The instructions are easy to follow and the examples are so perfect, a great book for anyone interested in quilting/textile work.

The book explains fully how to achieve the impossible. I can only aspire to this lady will never be able to compete.

Das Buch ist sehr interessant und bietet durch die schönen Abbildungen viele Anregungen für Picture Piecing. Die Picture Piecing-Methode mit Freezer-Paper wird genau erklärt und man kann sie anhand einer Beispiel-Vorlage für einen Schmetterling üben, die im Buch abgebildet ist. Ansonsten sind keine Nähvorlagen zu finden, außer zur Erklärung der Striche und Buchstaben in den Vorlagen von Frau England. Trotzdem finde ich das Buch sehr gelungen, da man einen guten Einblick ins Paper Piecing erhält.Darüber hinaus erläutert Cynthia England auch, wie man ein Motiv auswählt und den passenden Stoff, um beispielsweise den Eindruck von Schatten in einem Quiltmotiv zu erzeugen. Es ist auch sehr interessant zu sehen, wie man ein Motiv von einem Foto abnimmt und es vereinfacht, damit es in einen Quilt eingearbeitet werden kann.

I look forward to reading this book. I was disappointed that there was very little in terms of patterns.
