Her marriage on the rocks, Lizzie Cronin (Phoebe Cates) is forced to return to her domineering mother. In desperation, Lizzie calls upon Fred (Rik Mayall), the imaginary friend of her childhood, to help her through this difficult period. But Fred proves to be more hindrance than help - the effects of his actions are far from imaginary and Lizzie must take the blame.

Didn’t work
I received my dvd late. Wanted to watch it same night and it didn’t work so I emailed saying it didn’t work. So I got a message back SAME day and he said he would send another will take a week. Got it within 2days and it worked so I can’t really complain as he sent another one and emailed back same day and also apologised.

The definitive release this film deserves!
Drop Dead Fred may have been a box-office flop when it was first released, but the film has achieved its own cult status from its various home video releases over the past 25 years, despite what critics may or may not think of this film.I'd personally say that it was well ahead of its time. It doesn't follow the typical Hollywood formula, which is probably why it wasn't terribly popular with critics. The quality of the film itself is your typical catalog release type quality. This is not a bad thing by any means, it's more than beyond watchable. Final Cut Entertainment have presented what Universal was willing to send out. No signs of DNR or EE, it looks better than it ever has on home video before, and it's unlikely that we'll see a better release any time soon, if ever. The only disappointment with this release is that there are no subtitles. One minor note: The back of the case says the run time is 95 mins 5 secs. I can confirm that the correct run time is 99 mins 14 secs. It appears that Final Cut mixed the Blu-Ray run time up with their DVD counterpart, which runs 4% faster due to the PAL speed up. Nothing has been cut or sped-up for this Blu-Ray.The newly made extras from Final Cut are excellent, lots of brand new interviews with previously unknown trivia, anecdotes, etc. from cast & crew members, and finally some deleted scenes that answer a lot of questions, such as why the table is suddenly broken in half during the Doctor's waiting room scene. These are sourced from a VHS rough cut, some do suffer from frame-judder, but let's not overlook the fact that they are deleted scenes.Overall, an excellent effort for a release that this film deserves.

Classic
Treated myself to this on rental. I’m 25, and I haven’t watched this film since I was around 12.. it was absolutely brilliant. I vividly remembered the storyline and a few lines from the film..( “ooo cobwebs” 😂)Was so nice being able to watch it again. More so as I know its one of my mums childhood favourites. I can’t remember crying at it though as a kid 🤷🏻♀️ Was crying like a little baby by the end of the film.. both main characters are amazing actors and played the roles brilliantly. Renting Drop Dead Fred has now made me think I should actually buy it.. can’t wait to show my 2 sons a classic 🥰

a trip down memory lane
Nothing against the seller but it jumped in certain places. Maybe it was my DVD player? I once loved this film and so wanted to watch it again. but it wasn't great second time around. Why is nothing that funny when you grow up?
