Black Lagoon, Vol. 2 (Volume 2)

Darkest volume to date
The second volume of the excellent Black Lagoon takes a really dark turn and this is the one volume to miss if you are easily offended. In "Das Wieder Erstehen Des Adlers/Die Rückkehr des Adlers" (aka The Recapture/Return of the Eagle) the crew come into conflict with Neo-Nazis while recovering a painting from a sunken WWII U-Boat. "Bloodsport Fairy Tale" continues to shock, when a pair of psychotic child siblings arrive in Roanapur and begin tearing a path through the Russian Mob, Balalaika turns to Mr Chang and Rock for help. "Bloodsport Fairy Tale" concludes in volume 3.Although this book is up to the usual high standard of the series I've had to rate it a bit lower just because it's really grim and touches a few taboo subjects that will no doubt upset some readers. I just hope hope it doesn’t put anyone off reading the rest of this brilliant series.

Nazi paintings & twin assassins
This second volume of the `Black Lagoon' manga sees the crew of the Black Lagoon hired to retrieve a painting from a sunken Nazi U-boat but during the operation the crew are attacked by a group of Neo-Nazis after the same painting. Things are further complicated when Revy and Rock have a minor falling out, causing Revy to lose her temper. Back in Roanapur, a pair of psychic twin assassins are causing a ruckus which could lead to an all-out gang war. This is another very fun volume of `Black Lagoon' with some very nice action, good artwork, interesting characters and some interesting storylines. There are some quite violent moments of in this volume, as well as some brief nudity and quite a bit of swearing and it does deserve its Explicit Content warning, although it isn't too extreme to my mind.`Black Lagoon' is rapidly becoming one of my favourite manga series and I will deffinatly be continuing to read the series.

An excellent post Cold War fable.
Before I begin I just want to say that I am not a Manga expert, but I have just returned to the Manga/Anime scene after a very long hiatus, by which I mean that when I first got into Anime/Manga, Akira and some pretty poor (and expensive) US import videos of Bubblegum Crisis were all that you could get (and Battle of the Planets of course), shortly after this Battle Angel Alita, Akira and other stuff became available through Dark Horse comics and the rest is history.Damn. As an old school Manga fan the very fact I am reading a manga which is essentially set in the era I grew up in is mental, and the the way it draws from the classic media of that time is fantastic. I won't go into what the book is about as every reviewer on here has done so far more eloquently than I ever could, however I will say that as an old-school reader of shonen, this is an excellent place to start a new, modest Manga collection as I am now doing.Black Lagoon is full of 80's movie style firefights, bizarre plot twists, and insane yet hard as nails babes kicking butt. There isn't much else I can say.I have to give Black Lagoon 5 stars, its simply incredible.

The interaction between Rock and Rev is getting interesting, rock is starting to settle in as the new member of the Black Lagoon crew. Very violent and harsh story
