THE BEST EVER!
What a story!! What a page turner!! I read the books in order, and even though they say you don't have to, I'm glad I did. If only every writer could be this good!!!

Fascinating Spanish / Catalán fiction (translated)
Ruiz Zafón spins a good tale. I read all of them in chronical order. It's a good way to get a feel for Spanish Civil War life (before, during, and after). As an historian, I always find era-based fiction to get personal perspectives. It was a horrible experience for Spaniards, who were subjected to 36 years of Franco's dictatorship, an omen for the U.S.A. at present.

Story gets tedious
By the time you get to book #2, halfway the story gets tedious and when you hit volume 4, it's just torture to read. Book #1 is terrific and then the author gets too long-winded. I was just worn out and bored by it all.

Love this series
A friend had given me the first book” shadow of the wind” and was hooked! I’ve now read “ the angels game “ and am currently reading “ the prisoner of heaven”. I am not disappointed!
