desertcart.com: Absolute Batman: Arkham Asylum (New Edition): 9781779526106: Morrison, Grant, McKean, Dave: Books Review: It’s like a Movie in your hands - Batman: Arkham Asylum (DC Compact Comics Edition) is a must-have for any Batman fan. The dark, gothic atmosphere perfectly captures the madness of Arkham Asylum and the grim reality of Gotham City. From the moment the story begins, you’re pulled into the chaos, with the Joker’s twisted, playful cruelty setting the tone throughout. Spanning 144 pages, this graphic novel is packed with intense moments, eerie visuals, and sharp dialogue. The art style is haunting and unique, and the creative fonts and panel layouts add to the psychological tension of the story. The interactions between Batman, the Joker, and the hostages inside Arkham are especially compelling and keep you hooked from start to finish. Even if you’re familiar with the Arkham video games, this comic offers a deeper, darker experience that stands strongly on its own. While I do wish the story were longer, the quality more than makes up for it. For $10, this edition is absolutely worth the price and makes a great addition to any DC or Batman collection. Highly recommended for fans of darker Batman stories and collectors looking to explore the world of Arkham Asylum in comic form. Review: The Expressive Batman - Wonderfully illustrated in brutal exaggeration. Grant weaves a more cerebral Batman story brimming with darkness and introspection with an art style equal to the task. One of my favorite Batman stories.

GOOD BUT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
I JUST BOUGHT "ARKHAM ASYLUM" ALONG W/ "THE LONG HALLOWEEN". I READ THE ARKHAM ASYLUM AND THOUGHT....WOW....THIS IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER BATMAN STORIES I'VE READ. FIRST OFF, BATMAN IS SHOWN TO BE VERY VULNERABLE AND HUMAN. HE IS STILL DARK BUT THERE IS STILL A BIT OF SELF-DOUBT IN HIM, I.E. "IT WILL BE LIKE COMING HOME", AS HE RELUCTANTLY DECIDES TO COMPLY W/ THE DEMANDS OF THE INMATES. SECOND, THE JOKER IS AT HIS DEVILISH BEST, HIS DEMENTIA FULL ON MATCHES HIS APPEARANCE. HE DOESN'T EVEN LOOK HUMAN ANYMORE, ADD TO THAT HE REALLY KNOWS WHAT BUTTONS TO PUSH ON BATMAN. AND FINALLY, THE JOURNAL OF AMADEUS ARKHAM. IT WAS A BIT CONFUSING AS TO HOW GRANT MORRISON KEEPS FOCUSING IN THE PAST AND IN THE PRESENT WHILE BATMAN IS RUNNING THE GAUNTLET AND AMADEUS' JOURNAL REMINISCES ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ASYLUM. BUT READ IT CAREFULLY AND THAT CONFUSION WILL FIX ITSELF. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST IS THE ART WORK, KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS BOOK IS FULLY PAINTED...BUT ALEX ROSS STYLE IT'S NOT. MCKEAN'S WORK IN THIS BOOK PREFECTLY COMPLEMENTS THE STORY, IT IS DARK, GRAPHIC AND SOMETIMES GETS CONFUSING. BUT ONCE AGAIN, IT TOTALLY COMPLEMENTS THE ALMOST SUPERNATURAL STORY. BE AWARE THAT THIS IS NOT RUN OF THE MILL PUNCH AND SLASH COMIC BOOK STORIES, THE VIOLENCE IS THERE AND IS MOSTLY CONVEYED THROUGH MORRISON'S WORDS BUT THIS VIOLENCE IS MUCH DISTURBING THAN THE VIOLENCE CONVEYED IN THE REGULAR SERIES. THE STORY IS GOOD AND MOST WILL ENJOY IT BUT IT FALLS SHORT AND KIND OF FALLS APART AT THE END (BATMAN'S ESCAPE FROM ARKHAM ASYLUM). IT COULD HAVE BEEN EXTENDED A LITTLE MORE TO GIVE A FULLY COMPREHENSIVE COMPLETION. BUT DESPITE ALL THAT THIS BOOK IS HIGLY RECOMMENDED AND HOPEFULLY THE OTHER READERS WILL ENJOY IT AS WELL.

A great story in the wrong format
This is not an indictment of the work of Grant Morrison and Dave McKean. "Arkham Asylum" is just as good as it ever was. I think every comic fan should read it. I think every fan of the Arkham video games should read it. Just not this version. More than any of the other DC Compact releases I've read, the smaller, manga-style format really inhibits the reader's enjoyment of this particular story. The creators made the artistic choice to have the Joker's words lettered as if it were written in blood, simultaneously sharp and splattered, with no word bubble to give it contrast. This works to great effect in the full-size version. Here, not so much. Losing roughly a third of the page area of the original has wrecked its readability. To be fair, I do wear bifocals, so someone with properly working eyes might be okay with this. If so, congratulations. It's a good story...but it's a story I can't help but think you'd be better off reading in its original size.

Beautiful restoration
"Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth" is one of my favorite Batman stories. it is a dark toned work which shows a batman we rarely see: one who is off-balance and afraid. this edition is a serious step up in quality over even the most recent hardcover. the rescanned artwork reveals a lot of details not previously shown. McKean's artwork now shows off how thoroughly mixed media it is. in the past, the reproduction sort of flattened everything into a beautiful but homogenous style. for the first time, we can see brushstrokes and edging. while making it less visually consistent, the improved texture is really moving.

Although the panels are sometimes difficult to understand and the story could seem rushed in some parts, this story is wonderful, creepy, and very well done, I love how it analyzes everybody's psyche, even The Arkham Asylum Himself. Also this edition is very complete and full of stuff, for this price it is a very good purchase

The book is surprisingly small, and you can hardly read the story and the red writing

Zeer leuke collectie. In deze uitgave zijn de lettertjes soms wel echt klein geworden. Ze zijn ook niet altijd echt zwart/wit waardoor het lezen soms wat moeilijk is. Toch leuke kleine collectie in dit formaat naast de originele!

This graphic novel arrived just in time, And the condition of the book was great. The story is great and was written by one of my favorite writer's "Grant Morrison", And the art was spectacularly done by artist "Dave McKean". 8.75/10
