Good all around tool to make measurements
I work in the building industry and have for 40 years so I just had to try this new product. After trying it now I found the Measure King to be pretty good especially for light measuring and measuring existing buildings to draw "as-built" plans (I do a lot of).. The 3-1 replaces my tape measure, laser measuring device and rolling measuring stick. I won't miss them since the Measure King is compact. The cord feature is great for measuring round and curved surfaces and the rolling mode is the feature I like best since its better at measuring wall surfaces since its not bulky, awkward and a pain as a standard metal tape measure. As for the laser it's OK in getting over all room sizes but with all laser measuring devices remember shadows and sunlight will interfere with getting measurements. Overall I found the product great and it'll replace my other tools becoming the tool I use most..

Great measuring tool!
This is a great product! I love that there is 3 ways to measure in this one tool, it's a space saver and time saver. Now I don't need to find/carry multiple tools. The roll to measure feature is not something I ever thought I would use and let me tell you it is a great feature! I do a lot of craft projects and this is small enough to use for little projects and things that are awkward to measure. It also works for larger projects such as room measuring. Having a cord instead of the traditional tape style measure is good for going around corners and fitting in tight spaces where a tape would not fit. I will be buying more of these for birthdays and Christmas presents.

A potentially helpful AS SEEN ON TV product
So, I haven't used this product extensively yet, but it has some features that could be really helpful...if they work. Of course, AS SEEN ON TV products are notoriously disappointing. That said, I really hope this product holds up.It's different from your typical measuring tape. Instead of a typical stiff "tape" that you pull out to measure distance, this product has a string that you pull out that you can wrap around unusually or awkward shaped items and get a digital measurement. For example, you could wrap it around a basketball or something and get an accurate reading of its circumference--something impossible with a regular tape measure. I have tested the quality of this feature, and the digital measure does seem accurate. The second, but less helpful, feature is a small rolling wheel. You roll the wheel along the item you want to measure and you get a digital readout of how far the wheel has rolled. This is a less effective feature than the string because unless you're careful the wheel will slide along the item instead of roll, and, of course, you'll get an inaccurate reading. The problem is that the wheel is small and plastic. It would be much more effective if there was a small strip of rubber around the circumference of the wheel so that it will grip the item being measured. The least impressive feature is the laser measurement option. It's unreliable and not very accurate. Considering that there are high quality laser distance measures out there, it would probably be best to investigation those options rather than rely on this one.Given their reputation, it's hard to place a lot of faith in AS SEEN ON TV products, and this particular device was made cheaply, and it is sold at a relatively low price. However, I anticipate it will still have its uses.

Warning -- Watch your fingers and eyes!
I've only used it two times and haven't yet tested the accuracy, which seems to be a sticking point with others who say it works to about 1/4 in tolerance (not exactly, um... exact) but if you can tolerate that, let me warn you about a potential danger. The string mode can rip your finger or even poke an eye out -- the string is spring-powered and winds back into the unit via a VERY powerful spring force. Lots of mechanical tape measuring units do the same thing, but all the ones I have seen that have a metal measuring band, you have to be careful to not just hit the release and lit it fly back willy-nilly into the unit without carefully controlling it, because it can whip-lash around and smack you. But those metal ones don't have too much potential movement because they big, wide bands of metal. With this unit, instead of a metal band, it's a string. That string can whip around in any direction (any UNPREDICTABLE direction --you can't predict where it's gonna fly) with a lot more force and a lot faster than a metal tape. Even worse, what it has at the end of the string is a metal fork that, as I found out, can actually tear into your skin if a finger or even a eye were to be unhappy enough to be in its way. I actually had a finger on the hand that was holding the device badly cut when I accidently let go of about 6 feet of extended string. DO NOT just allow the string to fly back by itself; ALWAYS assist it as it pulls back into the unit by keeping control of it with one hand while holding the unit in the other. There is no "gentle" release mechanism with this device as I have seen on a few metal band measuring tape units. Be forewarned...it can HURT. I actually think this is enough of a safety issue that would prevent me from recommending it at all, regardless of the accuracy issue stated by many others. Now I have to go see if my new refrigerator will fit into the existing space that I measured with this device, or if it winds up being 1/4 too big. :-)

An amazing tool for measuring - awesome product!
The ONTEL Measure King is an amazing new way to measure things. The three functions in one measuring tool is very helpful. The modes are easy to switch, the digital display is great, and it is so much easier than a normal measuring tape. No getting smacked by the tape retracing. Measuring with a laser is a breeze and really fun. Overall, I would highly recommend for all of your measuring needs.
