My belt came in size 42 when I thought it would come as a 46. I guess 42” is max length!

How do you put the metal tab at the end of the belt back after you cut it?

Well, I am a bit confused by your question. I sounds like you made a cut to adjust the length. It sounds like you made your cut off of the end where the metal tab is instead of taking the belt off of the buckle. You do this by lifting the piece with the little teeth up, removing the belt, making your cut and then putting the belt back into the buckle. If you did what I think you did you can put the metal tab in the recycling. Sorry.

Does this belt hold up a sherpa holster without sagging? I've found most 1.5 inch belts don't?

this belt does not have any internal stiffeners so I would not recommend using it as any sort of gun belt. In my experience, search using the term "gun belt" and you will find a lot more relevant products that will meet your needs

Says fits up to size 42, but bought similar belt advertised “up to 42” and the entire length was only 42” - is this length 42” or longer?

Belt tip to tip is 48", best guess max. usable length about 44" the advertised 42" would look good
