Satisfied with & grateful for color results: grays are now a light/medium ashy brown
I'm giving this 5 stars because it's the one product on the market - I've tried so many - that darkens my hair without dyes or causing hair loss (John Frieda shampoo for Brunettes & Clairol semi-permanent Beautiful Collection, I'm looking at you.) Gray hair can look fabulous, but it does not look fabulous on me. So my only two options for coloring my hair are either Moda Moda or permanent hair dye. Permanent dye is labor-intensive, inconvenient, messy. Also, because my hair grows so fast, I develop that harsh border line between brown and new-growing gray within a week of a dye job. I can't stand that. Moda Moda does not darken my grays to my natural dark brown. Instead, it tints it mostly to an ashy light medium-brown. A few stubborn grays can only darken to a yellowish-blonde. But that color mix is more than good enough for me. It looks much much better than the natural grays that would otherwise be there. And there's no harsh gray-brown color differentiation from new growth at the roots. All this via a regular hair shampoo session, which I'd be doing anyway. I wash my hair only 2-3 times a week. Maybe if I washed it everyday, it would darken more (?) But my hair gets too dry with a daily shampoo (with any product). Tip: I get better color results using cool/tepid rather than hot water.

The old formula worked wonders, the new formula failed.
This shampoo used to work well, but the updated formula didn’t. I’ve been using it since it first came out, and it worked great. However, they changed the formula because something in the old one was found to be carcinogenic. The new formula didn’t work for me either. I saw some recent reviews giving it 5 stars, so I decided to give it another try. This time, I made sure to leave the shampoo in my grey hair for about 10 minutes or longer every shower. I wet my hair, applied the shampoo even before getting into the shower, brushed my teeth, shaved, and washed my body before rinsing out. After 6 weeks, I noticed a slight darkening, but it’s barely noticeable. The darkening effect is basically slower than the rate of hair growth. It may darken my hair if I keep using it for a whole year, but the root of my grey hairs will always be grey.

Parents love it!
I got these for my parents and they loved it so much I decided to order the large size for christmas presents for all the aunts and uncles in my family! They love how easy it is, just apply it like normal shampoo and wait around 10-15 minutes for it to really soak in and just rinse off. They started noticing the results after about 5 washes, so it does take some time for the hair to be darker, but it's worth the wait. They prefer this over traditional hair dyes as it smells better and it doesn't irritate their scalp like box hair dyes. The color is also a nice natural dark brown so it blends in very well with the roots without looking like they dyed their hair.

New vs old.
I get why people hate the new formula. I used the old formula, and while it wasn’t perfect, it was good enough. When I started using the new one, it actually started to strip my hair of the color it had gained from the original formula. I was distraught, but in my zeal I had purchased two bottles, and as they’re expensive I didn’t want to waste them, so I kept using it. Here are my thoughts. The new formula isn’t compatible with the old one. It will strip your hair of color initially, but it will eventually start laying down new color. It’s not as red as the original, more light brown. It does work but you have to be very very very patient, and after having gone through multiple bottles, I will say I think it works better than the original. The old one never colored the roots. You always had about an inch of gray around your part and if you look at the underneath layers, you had lots of gray there, but the new formula definitely gets closer to the root and does better at the layers underneath, though again, it’s not perfect. Even my hairdresser recently complimented my hair when I shared that I used a coloring shampoo. He has seen the limitations of it, but said my hair had colored better and more thoroughly than most. Like I said, you have to be patient and it could be that some hair textures work better than others. I have very coarse hair. You may not be willing to put in the time and money on this product, but after initially hating this new formula and lamenting the change, I’ve come to like it better than the original. One star deducted because it’s not perfect and it’s expensive, but absolutely worth it for me as someone who started growing gray in 7th grade.

It does work for me
It does work without messing up with your bathroom because unlike other dying products, this doesn’t have tinted ingredients. It’s naturally darkening, but also you need to know how to use it. I only use it once a week, but first, I apply the shampoo near my scalp before getting wet, to cover the roots. Then I start the shower and I mix it with just a little bit of water and let it sit for few more minutes until I almost finish with the shower. Then I rinse it thoroughly (as amy shampoo, you shouldn’t leave shampoo residue on your scalp) and apply some conditioner. I wish Moda Moda offers a conditioner as well, but by now I use other hair treatment. This way, you will notice a visible darkening after the first use. I recommend it to people who have spotted gray hair and don’t want to dye the entire hair with chemicals.

Ok as a shampoo, not great on color anymore
Compared to the previous formula, this one doesn’t seem to work well. It might discolor your fingernails but it takes too much shampoo and time to try to darken your hair. Too bad they changed the formula. I won’t be purchasing anymore.

AVOID THIS PRODUCT - IT CONTAINS BAD CHEMICALS CAUSING SKIN RASHES
AVOID THIS PRODUCT. My wife and I have both bad reactions to this product, causing rashes all over our heads, sides and tops. The original product available about 3 years ago was effective and did not cause any rashes, but the manufacturer must have added chemicals to the recipe, which also reduces effectiveness - it cannot hide white hair as well as the original product. Wish I could give it a negative.

Quality has gone downhill and the packaging leaks constantly
I’ve relied on this natural hair darkening shampoo for a while to maintain my long, wavy hair, but I have to say that the overall quality has significantly degraded since last year. Beyond the drop in the product's actual quality, the most frustrating issue that has persisted is the very poor packaging design. After every single use, the bottle leaks. You have to be extremely careful with where you store it—do not put it on a carpet, or you will definitely lose a significant portion of the shampoo due to leakage and be left with a huge mess.

Quality shampoo
I love this shampoo. Quality product. Only 3 minutes to hold and wash out. It a little bit stains near nails so can use gloves, but I didn't. Hair is very shiny and sleek after this shampoo. I used it almost every day and one bottle lasted for about 2 months for thin mid length with grey hair (not all grey). I want to buy it again but it's out of stock... I really like the effect it does to my hair. It not completely covered grey, but stained them. No damage to hair at all. 10* for this shampoo

Leaking from everywhere!
Wirst packaging ever! When I started to use it, the shampoo was coming out from every side of the bottle except than the pump! I don't know why there are so many gaps in every corner of the bottle! And the outsome! If you have thick hair it wont work. Maybe for think brown hair it works.
