Product Description Lampooning everything from Star Wars to Star Trek, this outrageous send-up of epic sci-fi movies is full of cosmic crazies who score "eight trillion on the laugh-meter" (Gene Shalit, NBC-TV). Fearless--and clueless--space heroes Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half man/half dog sidekick Barf (John Candy) wage interstellar warfare to free Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil clutches of Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). On the way to the rescue--in their Winnebago--they confront the huge, gooey Pizza the Hutt (voice of Dom DeLuise), sassy robot Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers) and a wise little creature named Yogurt (Mel Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz" in order to bring peace--and merchandising rights--to the entire galaxy. desertcart.co.uk Review There’s plenty in the crosshairs of Mel Brooks’ cherished spoof, Spaceballs. Star Wars is clearly the main focus, but you’ll find happy nods to Star Trek, and a bunch of other science fiction productions. It’s an uneven film certainly, and always was, but the belly laughs remain plentiful. Heck, just the mere sight of Rick Moranis as Darth Helmet is generally enough to get the guffawing going. He’s not alone, though. The late, great John Candy is Chewbacca knock-off, Barf, and you don’t have to look too far to see the inspiration for Princess Vespa and Pizza The Hutt. All of this comedy talent now comes to the screen too in high definition, too, with the Spaceballs Blu-ray presenting the film in 1080p resolution, with a suitably beefy sound mix alongside. The extras, though, are where the rest of the fun is to be found. There’s a lot to get through here, with highlights in particular being the Mel Brooks commentary track. It’s not massively information, but it is most certainly entertaining. If you want a bit more background information on the movie instead, then you’re better off checking out the documentary that’s also included on the disc. There’s a nice piece, too, that praises the work of John Candy. It’s hard to avoid the fact that every criticism you can aim at Spaceballs is probably true. It’s dated, its targets are easy, and there’s probably a better film in the core idea than the one we ultimately got. But there’s no getting away from it: the movie remains an absolute hoot. Easily rewatchable, and endearingly funny, it deserves to find a place in any sci-fi fan’s collection. Darth Helmet commands it. --Jon Foster Review: Excellent service 🌏 delivery too. "May the Schwartz be with you!"
First of, I'm not going to review the film here as, needless to say, it's an absolute classic with so much to enjoy! I just wanted to post this review to provide some more details about the extras on the disc, as the packaging itself is vague at best; - Spaceballs: The Documentary (2003; 30mins) Cast and crew look back on the making of the film. - In Conversation with Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan (2005; 20mins) A chat between the film's writers about the genesis and making of the film. - John Candy: Comic Spirit (2003; 10mins) An affectionate and moving look back on the legend that was John Candy, with contributions from the cast and crew of Spaceballs. - Film Flubs (2009) Not entirely sure what real purpose these serve, but these are 6x10 second-ish pieces highlighting mistakes made in the film; talk about spoiling the illusion! - Storyboards-to-film Comparison (approx 7 mins) - Looks at 3 or 4 scenes in the film and compares them with the orignal storyboard designs. - Watch the movie in Ludicrous Speed - If time is short then you can watch the film in just 30 seconds at ludicrous speed: just make sure you fasten your seatbelt! - Commentary with Mel Brooks - Still Galleries - Theatrical Trailers So a decent amount of extra content on the disc to be fair. And the picture quality on the bluray is also good; i'm not sure if the film's undergone any restoration work or a new transfer was made for this release, but it stands up well for an 80's movie. Overall, a great package and an excellent film!

some of the jokes have aged not to well
overall funny movie, the animated seires they made later makes the whole spaceballs world look bad but the movie by it's self is really good

As subtle as a 3 ring circus
I missed this when it came out and it's taken me 25 years to catch up. Very funny, broad humour, it had me laughing from when the opening titles rolled. Lovely performances all round although the breadth of the humour doesn't leave any room for subtlety. Good fun spotting all the sci-fi satire/lampoons/homages and good that it only took Mel one film to tell the story when at the time it had taken George Lucas three.. The extras are okay and it does have subtitles. I'd have liked a blooper reel rather than 6 mistakes being pointed out in separate mini scenes. Mel Brooks commentary struck me as rather sad as he used quite a lot of it to beg Gene Wilder to come back to him. He only really perks up when he himself is on screen. Its an interesting insight into the mind of Mel Brooks - a genius in many ways. Definitely worth one watch and if you fall for it's charm then one for the "Mr Video" collection.

This is a classic 80s parody movie. I remember watching over and over as a kid. It has aged a little bit, but there are many jokes that are funny. My kids loved the movie, even if they did not get all the jokes. Maybe is not 100% kids appropriate, since some jokes are edgy, but honestly it was the norm during the 80s.
