Do NOT buy the Kindle edition!
Irrespective of the merits of the plot and storytelling (rather flat IMO), the narrative depends significantly on the provision of annotated diagrams of the house showing the layout and where everything was. In the Kindle edition these diagrams are missing and only the (now useless) annotations are provided. There are also other formatting problems in the Kindle edition. Very poor.

Excellent impossible crime mystery
Paul Halter is an excellent author of impossible crime and a worthy successor to John Dickson Carr. The mysteries are intriging and the solutions genuine and believable. There are several mysteries deaths in this novel with main murder being a classic "no footprints in the snow" so how did the killer who stabbed someone at close range get away in the very short time the victim was out of sight and without leaving any footprints in the thick snow on the field and on the ice covered lake. It would seem impossible but the author creates a real solution to how it could be done without using anything far fetched like flying or being invisible.

Enjoyable romp
An enjoyable romp, but not in the same class as others by the same author. Also, the Kindle edition has a few typos and formatting error. As well as this, the text mentions various diagrams frat should be in the book but are not (at least in the Kindle editions). Aspects of the plot are therefore missed.

The Lord of Misrule
I like Paul Halter and try to buy every book that is being translated in English. Wordery is service-minded. Thanks.
