Rx Vitamins Phos-Bind - Kidney Support Supplement Powder - 200g

Since adding this to my senior dog's prescription k/d formula, the excessive water drinking has stopped and kidney level stabilized, although has not gotten better. Vet says if it stays at current level, it would be fine. 1 bottle lasted almost 3 months using 1 scoop per meal since my dog is 10 lbs. Im also adding green mussel powder to his food in hopes of getting his hind legs better mobility and strength. Will see if the combination of phos binder, eliminating meat protein, hills science k/d formula with steamed veggies, fish or egg whites for protein and green lipped mussels powder will delay his declining age-related symptoms. I didnt know my dog's true age because he was a rescue and only recently found out that he was nearing his years once he started showing neurological symptoms and falling down a lot. He seems to be better alert, great appetite, attempts to walk around a little more and has no more accidents in the house so i think the combination of everything is doing him good. I would def recommend adding this to your dog's meal if kidney functions are an issue. If sprinkling on dry food doesnt work for your dog, mix it into canned food and then pour over dry food and then the dog wont notice.

It is doing what it is supposed to do and keeping my dog from getting worse. It is very fine powder that you have to be careful when scooping as the powder can fly over the top of the jar. But easy to scoop into the dog's food, and it just disappears when I add water to his food. Does not appear to have any taste to it as it has not made his question his food.

Seems to have really helped my old renal girl. She feels a lot better. Once a day, and I think she likes the taste in her WET food.

Over the years I've had several cats that have gotten kidney disease from old age. I know the signs without needing a vet now. One of the first signs is seeing foam sitting at the top of the litter box after they pee. A couple of my cats have lived 5 years after I caught it early enough. I used to buy aluminum hydroxy gel powder from thriving pets. They have gotten really expensive over the years. I was glad to find this Phos-Bind here at a much more reasonable price. It is also delivered much faster with my Prime account. Time is the essence to using this. What I've noticed is this brand mixes into the wet cat food much easier. It also soaked in the dry at a quicker rate. I was so impressed. I'm not sure what people are whining about using this powder. The trick to using it in wet is to heat the food a little "first" and add a tablespoon or more of water into the food. "NEVER heat the food in the microwave AFTER adding this is in the food". I use around 1/4 tsp per meal of wet food. To use it in dry, put dry cat food in a Ziploc bag and add this by the teaspoon over the food. Zip the bag closed and shake the food. It should look like you coated it generously with powdered sugar. You don't need to have a pile of this at the bottom of the bag. You want it done evenly through out the food. Within a couple hours this should all soak in the dry food. I make up at least a weeks worth of food at once. Aluminum hydroxy powder will cause constipation, so I have generic Miralax on hand. I add about 1/4 tsp of that mixed in the wet cat food daily. Every cat is different so adjust the dose as needed. I don't measure out the aluminum hydroxy powder by weight, I dose it by how much my cat eats. I'm not sure of the thinking that goes behind dosing by your pet's weight. It has to bind with the phosphorous in the food to work. The better it's mixed in or soaked in, the better. I've been using this brand for a year with my cat Bobby. He looks better, is more bright eyed, and has put weight on with me assist feeding him. As long as your cat is comfortable and not in pain this might work for you too. I find this is effective for my cat.

Unfortunately, I needed to find a different binder for my senior CKD cat on the fly. The other binder I was using was not doing as well as it should have so my ER vet introduced me to a different phosphorous binder. This is very concentrated fine powder and if you are off by one smidgen you cat will not eat it. Honestly, if you are going to use this binder, I would advise you to buy a good gram scale and weight it out according to your vet instructions per meal. I measured it out on a scale and mixed it into her food but I had to add extra topper to help mask the taste. This small jar will go a very long way, so don't buy a larger size until you KNOW your cat will accept it. Please keep this in a dry and dark place and monitor your cat's intake of fluid. I hope this is not too late for your cat as you explore more ways for CKD management.

Gave it to my renal cat because he decided he no longer liked his food. Thought I'd put some Salmon pate on it and he loved that but it isn't a renal food so thought this would offset the regular food. He got an upset stomach at half the dose and refused to eat for 2 days. so, I quit doing it.

Our dog has kidney disease and we were advised to feed her a garbage prescription diet with almost no protein; instead she would be getting her energy and calories from added sugar. We thought that sounded crazy, as sugar is rather toxic to dogs, and our dog has cancer which makes any simple sugars extremely dangerous since cancer can very easily metabolize simple sugars and use the calories to grow and spread. We researched the proper diet and decided that dogs are designed to get their calories and energy primarily from protein, so despite her kidneys failing, it seemed that a high protein meat diet would still be the best for her, IF we could find a binder that would bond with the metabolized protein waste so that her kidneys would not have to do the work. We read good reviews about Phos-Bind and so decided to give it a try. Initially we tried mixing the Phos-Bind powder with her food; that was rough. Then we bought a capsule maker and filled gelatin capsules with Phos-Bind. We tried feeding the capsules to her with low-sodium cream cheese, but that didn't work. Finally, we bought some high end canned dog food and smooshed the capsules into a teaspoon of the dog food, and she would eat the glob of food with the capsule off the spoon. Later, she began licking the spoon and leaving the capsule, so we began making small teaspoon size 'patties' with the capsules inside. Initially we were feeding her two capsules each meal, and her bloodwork came back showing that her condition was stable and no longer deteriorating. But eventually she began throwing up her food, so we scaled back the Phos-Bind capsules to one per meal, three times a day. She is now taking the single capsules with no problem and her condition is still stable. She also gets a few Chinese herbs for kidney health. She is now 16 years and six months, and she definitely seems like she intends to make it to 17 years and quite possibly more.

this product is wonderful for my dog's kidneys, an essential every day! So hard to find in Canada!

The scoop was not included as written here it will be for proper dosage. I don’t know how to measure a dose for my cat in mg.

This can cause severe constipation which if I had know I would not have given to my cat. Also the scoop is so big for a cat it’s hard to give an exact dose, I wish they had a better way to measure.
