It is light and good quality. The 7.8 inch screen is way better to read than the 6 inch found in many other similar priced products. Also, it runs Android! Which means you can, through some means, get it to run custom launcher and custom readers. And it would become truly your own reader.

Don’t waste your money. I’ve been a loyal nook owner since their very first model, and they knowingly released a faulty product and would rather lose customers than make it right. Originally when I bought the device, it would crash randomly when reading books. That got resolved, mostly, after a few updates. However, the other day I left it on the charger to update since I usually leave the WiFi off since it drains battery and when I came back a few hours later it was completely stuck on a screen telling me to wait a moment because it was updating. Well, unless a moment is longer than 10 hours to B&N that was a lie. I followed all the troubleshooting steps. Held the power button both on and off the charger, left it to charge and then tried all the same steps and nothing works. Talked to support and the best they could give me is to send it in to get a discount on the latest model. THIS IS THE LATEST MODEL! Absolutely abysmal. Only reason I’ve stuck with Nook is because they have great physical page turn buttons. Their software is worse than the competitors, their battery life is worse than the competitors and their hardware is worse than them too. Others have reported this same issue and even had their replacements have the same issue. I’ve decided to jump ship to Kobo. I suggest you either do that, or decide you don’t care about physical page turn buttons and get a kindle.

These are great devices. We bought them for the whole family this Christmas to make reading more entertaining. The kids have really enjoy picking books online and being able to read them instantly. They were refurbished so I always have concerns but they work flawlessly. They are durable, light weight, and easy to use. These were a great buy for our family. We have no complaints with these devices.

I have owned every model of Kindle since the very first one was released. I have become concerned at Jeff Bezos’s politics and am reducing my spend on his businesses. This is a decent product, it generally works well but from time to time simply locks up and has to be reset. On some books, it doesn’t save your place so you have to tag your page. But, the design is simple and lightweight. Ordering books through its ecosystem is easy, but there’s very different choices of books. I’m not yet convinced this the way to go, though. I may buy a small tablet and use that with my library’s ebook lending instead.

Disclaimer, I'm using this as a jailbroken/rooted device Upgraded to this from a Nook Glowlight Plus 7.8. The upgrade to Android 8 is a welcome thing. It can run most apps that you'd want on an e-reader. Some apps (Collabora Office, Grace Elite Remote) run poorly or not at all likely due to the low RAM, but koreader and kahon work great once you remap the page turn buttons. The screen is a nice incremental update. Reading ebooks and manga on the thing is a lovely experience and it's got just enough oomph to make some light web browsing acceptable. But the overall software experience is lackluster. Rooting is required to use this outside of B&N's ecosystem. It forgets the frontlight settings every time the reader goes to sleep. MTP mode is only able to access nook-specific folders over USB. And the hardware side UX is a notable downgrade from the NST7.8. The page turn buttons push too easily where they are sensitive but have notable "dead zones" where you can't push them, and I greatly prefer their old location (centered on the bezel and standing proud) to the new one (flush with the display, at the edge). The home button is also no longer physical and the experience is worse for it. To prevent accidental presses, you have to "hold" it for several seconds, but if you hold it too long it toggles the frontlight (forgetting whatever settings you had for it). It feels overly fiddly and I miss the physical button. The screen being flush is nice aesthetically but it's more glare-susceptible and easy to accidentally trigger a touch if you're holding the device by the bezel. I really wish they'd just given us something physically identical to the previous generation model with upgraded CPU, RAM, and OS.

I ordered this item- it would not start. It was replaced with another that would not charge. Both have been returned for a refund. By the looks of the boxes, these were not new nooks- they are refurbished. I thought I was purchasing a new nook and would not have purchased if I new it was used.
