I needed a cheap USB dac to drive my headphones after the one that came with my $200 headphones, started to fail. (Was already on my second RMA for it) So I just wanted something cheap that would be equivalent, and I was told: "if you're not going to spend at least $50, the APPLE USB-C dongle is the best option, for only $10!" It sounded too good to be true, but it's actually been pretty nice so far! Worked out of the box on linux! And you can use the built-in DAC or bypass it! (Just don't try to use the 5.1 option) (ID 05ac:110a Apple, Inc. USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter) And the audio quality for both output and mic sounds really good, The maximum volume feels a bit lower than the Logitec usb dac, but still (usually) get's loud enough for me when maxed out. (I checked and this is the USA version, so I'm not volume limited like the UK version) The only really complaint I have is just how flimsy the cable part feels! IT feels even worse than the old ipod cables that show how it would self-destruct after a few months even with light uses. I looked online, and it looks like many people strengthen this with a pen spring or heat-shrink tube, (I did this) I'd argue for the price, I don't think it's a lot of extra work for how much your paying, but again, it feels like an odd design choice, (unless they're trying to manufacture e-waste) But yeah, overall 5/5! I have not tried it on android, (and heard others have had even lower volume issues on that) But it works great on PC!

The first positive is the price. At under ten dollars it’s hard to find fault. However, there are factors to consider. One of them is, how rough are you on your electronics? This adapter is built for casual use meaning you have to be gentle with it. If you’re incapable of that then you should get an adapter that is more durable. Another factor is, your power requirements. This adapter will work best with in ear earphones that don’t need much power to drive. Overall, it produces accurate and clean reproduction of whatever you listen to. Another positive is that it also has microphone support built in which for me personally is a huge benefit. I use wireless Bluetooth earphones from time to time but prefer wired listening because I don’t have to worry about battery life, battery replacement or Bluetooth connectivity issues with wired earphones and it still gives me the convenience of wireless phone calls and AI assistants like Siri. If you just need something that is reliable, inexpensive and “good enough” then this adapter is reasonable. However, if you want a better option at a still affordable price then I recommend the JCALLY JM6 Pro. You’ll get double the power output with a more durable build and also retain the previously mentioned microphone functionality.

Works great, I hook this up to my phone with lav mics and I can record content for work/ myself. I had one for a few years that got a bit bent from several years of shoving it into a tripod and there was a hissing sound on every video, I replaced this wire and it fixed it!

The sound is great and there is zero hiss when my headphones are plugged in. It worked great with my Windows PC and Android phone. I saw a few reviews noting that the volume is low on Android, however, if you are on Android 16 or later, this issue is totally fixed and I was able to get the dongle to make my headphones unreasonably loud through my Google Pixel phone. The cable in between the USB C end and the 3.5mm end is incredibly thin. It's only a $9 adapter, so not a huge deal if it breaks, but I am concerned about the durability of it. For example, I'm worried it might get ripped if it catches on something in my pocket. Finally, the adapter mutes all volume when nothing is playing. If you get a sharp transient sound (like a notification sound) during silence, it might cut off the very first few milliseconds of that sound. You shouldn't be able to notice if you're playing music/watching videos, but I noticed it with some notification sounds. Overall, I'd recommend this adapter. It's one of the best products Apple makes. It's simple, does its job, but is hanging by a literal thread (that cable in the middle is super thin!)

Finally bought this for my headphones and so glad I did. The rechargeable headphones just aren’t reliable enough, I prefer to just use the corded ones. Now I’m all set and don’t have to remember to charge.

I bought several off brand audio jacks for my new iPhone before this one. Never been a believer that everything needs to be Apple, and with my past phone my last audio adapter was off brand so I didn’t think it would matter. I drive an older car and so the main goal was to listen to music AND easily answer phone calls while driving. This has been the only audio adapter that has crystal clear sound and allows me to be heard when making phone calls. Wish the cord was a little longer but it fits the space fine. Easy plug and play. Go this route and save yourself the annoyance of off brands.

I thought the G4/iPod era was the last time I recommended an Apple product to anyone. Since then, I do still use apple products, but it is hard to recommend for many reasons, from availability to the fact that you can find better and cheaper somewhere else. But these dongles are ease to find, good quality with a price hard to beat. Not only they are difficult to beat, anything up to 50 CAD the benefits are so diminishing you will hardly hear any difference. If you want to do better and notice the difference, we are talking about dedicated DAC/AMP chips. I tested them with low impedance headphones and IEMs, it powered them just as well as my computer, or SoundblasterX G6. With negligible difference for some devices. ***Android phones half volume problem.*** Android (15 or lower) used to have a bug that it would not give enough juice for some DACs, and the Apple dongle was one of them. It was fixed for Android 16, you can check their bug report by searching "USB DAC hardware volume not set". If you are stuck on an older version of Android for some reason (or using Calyxos and Grapheneos on an older phone), check for a open-source project that fixes that for you. Or try one of the Android after market releases like LineageOS or /e/OS that might bring your device to Android 16. The only negative I can think of is that the holds are so smooth, and the connections are so good and thigh. It is difficult to unplug them. It is ok if it is in a stationary computer, but can be annoying with your phone.
