Good product
Was really disappointed with this as I was so sure it came with a book. The DVD is good thankfully.

good in showing the asanas
good in showing the asanas. would have appreciated how to put them together as a practice instead of just powering through the asanas. Having said that she explains them but not how long to hold them, how many repeats. Also the quality of the DVD was not up to scratch. I was a bit disappointed

Home yoga
This is an excellent dvd. Easy and good to follow as it shows a diagram of the pose before she actually moves into that pose, making it easier to follow.

As expected and described
As expected. Would have appreciated an English translation in the sleeve to help remember each position. Levels of difficulty would also have helped

have only watched once through was not happy with purchase
Although this shows yoga poses with name, I thought you would be taught a series of continuous moves as part of a daily routine e.g. one set for morning; one set of exercises for afternoon and another set for the evening. have only watched once through was not happy with purchase.

Excellent
I've been using this DVD to help my home practice for the last 5 years,i can't say enough good things about it.It's a quality practice well sequenced and paced just right so that you can just put it on and do your practice. The teacher presents with humour and an attention to detail that other forms of Yoga just don't have. This is Iyengar Yoga so it doesn't flow at a fast pace,i'm not surprised to read an Ashtanga yoga practitioner struggled with it.I only wish the teacher would bring out a second DVD.

Needs more time and more explanation
Whilst it is clear that Gabrielle is an extremely accomplished practitioner. Unfortunately as a novice I found she provided too little detail about the individual assanas and didn't give sufficient time to enable a student to fully complete the move before moving on to the next assana.

not so much for a practice at home
i do yoga at home and mostly practice with David Swenson's Ashtanga series (highly recommended!). I bought this one cos i wanted to add variety to my practice. But this dvd is simply not designed for a proper practice at home at all! Yes it includes 40 poses and does allow a continuous play but each pose is interrupted by a picture of the pose's full name and pronunciation which is really annoying. So even if you choose to play all poses at once, it's not really a continuous flow of poses for personal practice (as i have imagined), but simply a breakdown of poses played together without each being related to each other nor any warm-up. Ok maybe this way could work with some people, but the first pose is headstand! What i look for is a yoga dvd that i can practice with so this one is clearly not for me. But if you simply want to see how to do certain poses individually, then maybe this one could be considered (although i do think even for this purpose this dvd is a bit insufficient). So i actually don't know who'll find this dvd useful as i find even my Hatha yoga book is more illustrative than this one.

The perfect yoga video
This is an excellent video. The instruction is perfect. The instructor is highly skilled and a joy to watch. The chapter format is easy to navigate and allows me to customize my practice. This is one of the best yoga purchases I have ever made.

Great for Iyengar students as a home practice
Before you buy this DVD, make sure you know about Iyengar yoga, and you should probably have some background in it. If you haven't heard of the style, this probably isn't what you're looking for and instead, you may want to look into Shiva Rea's DVDs or something similar (it's probably more of the yoga you're used to/what you expect yoga to be). If you've had practice as an Iyengar student, this DVD is great as a reference for home practice.I took Iyengar yoga for a year, and now I'm moving to a small, rural community where the only yoga is "fitness"-type yoga at a small gym...and if you've done Iyengar, you know that's not the same at all! To keep my home practice going, I use this DVD along with printable practice sequences from the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York ([...]). I use the sheet (as well as books like Yoga: The Iyengar Way) for the order of sequences, then I play the asana (you can choose each pose separately) on this DVD as a guide for alignment and such. You can play the asanas all in a row, but I can't see doing that- it goes too quickly, and there's a lot. I think that this DVD is best as an asana-by-asana reference when you've had background in Iyengar yoga. After all, it's hard to read in a book how to align yourself while trying to do the pose- hearing it out loud makes it tons easier!Overall, great for the home practice of an Iyengar student. If you don't have Iyengar background, this might not be for you.
