You can’t hide from the sound that this thing makes in full swing—it’s impressive.It’s droppable & durable. Short of actually trying to break it, I can’t imagine it happening.I’m no guiro player, but I can still get lots of different sounds from it. It’s hand-held & mountable. Two different strikers that can account for some dynamic sound.My three-year old has tried to use it! Where’s the kids’ version of the same plastic!?

Awesome clean sound / not too crisp
This is a good guiro but it will never sound like one made from a dried out "guira" fruit (gourd). The soft white stick that comes with it sounds nice and smooth because it is lubricious (ie, it slides well) and the diameter is lareg enough to keep it from sinking too far into each and every groove on the guiro. If you know how to play this instrument, you will definitely get a smooth "crrrrrrrrrrrh" sound from it. Execellent for in-door / stage performances. Not loud enough for outdoor (unless you play it next to a mic, of course).Great buy, but needs a trained hand to sound its best.
