Jambalaya is more of a rice dish like Paella or fried rice. Gumbo is a soup but has rice in it. This mix is good if you want to prepare a quick Gumbo. You can just add chicken or shellfish.

Q: What is the shelf life of zataran's gumbo mix? i'd like to stock up my home pantry, but it would take at least 2yrs to use 12 boxes on my own.
