Staining Tips
STAINING TIPS:If you're not staining/painting this thing right away, cover the arm wrests with plastic. They will absorb oils from your skin, every drip and spill, and only once you apply the stain will you see it, and it'll look awful. You can fix that with a LOT of sanding, but you'll be happier if you just protect them from the start. If you like the look of reclaimed farmhouse floorboards or Lincoln Logs, you can just immediately apply a dark stain without any sanding. If you want it to look like an expensive antique, you need to go over every inch with a couple packs of very-fine/220-grid sand paper. Then apply one $5 half-pint can of light stain like "red oak" or similar, with old cut-up jean rags, and only use a brush in the unreachable corners. Anybody can do the job in a couple hours, ruining your outfit in the process, but it'll take about 3-days until it's no longer tacky. It'll look infinitely nicer than unfinished wood when you're done, but I'm not sure it's worth putting a lot of effort into it (like all that sanding). In the end, it's still a very soft wood, and will be damaged any time it's hit with anything, which makes it look kinda cheap all over again. Some varnish will help protect it a little (and make it very glossy) but it can't do miracles. It makes a good bed frame, but not a very good couch. The seat bottom is very hard (no flex) and flat, so make sure you get a good inner-spring matter, not a traditional padded futon mattress, as that won't be tolerable to sit on with this thing for long.

This would be a decent frame except for a few glaring faults.Q/C at the factory is poor. I recieved wood that was cracked, holes that were not drilled through the wood and holes drilled in the wrong placeI followed the instructions to the letter, they are very poorly written. The frame is very wobbly when moving. I would suggest assembling it in the room where it is to be used.Converting from sofa to futon is a chore. It requires a nice chunk of effort. I'm thinking of waxing the channels the nylon rollers sit in in the hopes of making the conversion easier. As a bed it is comfortable. As a sofa to sit in for extended period of time it is painful. Finally the frame i recieved differs from the picture. It is a small difference in the design of the arms, but visually it is different than the image. The futon shipped within a reasonable amount of time and was packaged well for shipment.

Unfinished wood.
The naked pine wood I thought would be a nice touch, but it just means there's splinter risk.I should varnish it. But I'm lazy. For the price it's pretty awesome. I'm really enjoying it.

Futon Frame
This is the first low review I have given, This came with two sets of directions for two different beds, the holes where not drilled in some of the pieces. The good this is it came way early it showed up the same day I got the e-mail that it had shipped. Once put together it is very solid and shifts from bed to couch really easy.

A Great Value
I purchased this futon frame on a tight budget, I wanted a high quality futon (No crappy metal stuff) that I could use for my first apartment. This is exactly what I got, after reading the previous review, I was expecting the put together of this futon to be a project, a prospect I wasent completely opposed to but merely prepared for. This was not the case at all, it came with great instructions and took around 1 hour to assemble completely on my own. When finished I put the mattress on and jumped into my new (Huge) futon I was so pleased, it is extremely stable and supported my jump without a creak, (all 190 pounds). I have absolutely no complaints about this frame, I am extreamly pleased. This is an incredible buy, no second thoughts.

It broke the day we bought it
My wife managed to break it while she was assembling this. One of the wood slats snapped in half. She is not very strong to snap a wood slat in half, so I chalk this up to very poor quality wood.

The only thing in its price range - and luckily it's awesome
Fantastic.Quite literally the only futon frame its price range (under 200 bucks) that had arms and housed a full-size mattress. Put it together with my roommate (we're both rather large dudes, but it was an easy assemble and would've been at any size) in about 35 minutes. All required tools were included, although it took a minute to find the allen wrench. It's not stained or anything, but it doesn't need to be. Arms are pretty heavy duty, and we're had it set up for a few months now and it doesn't creek or anything. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if we magically inherited another futon mattress. Big fan.

great!
I love this frame. It is solid and sturdy and heavy. This is no light weight piece of junk. The assembly was only slightly confusing only because I have never built a futon before. Anyone who has ever built anything before, especially from wood, will not have any problem figuring it out. Yes, there were very minor things like a couple holes not lining up absolutely perfect or a couple holes drilled slightly to shallow...big deal...angle the screw slightly for a slightly off hole or 1 second with a drill to add a bit to a shallow hole. These things are nothing when working with wood and especially pre-made wood pieces from a factory. I would highly recommend this frame or company to anyone who asked!
