A New York Times Bestseller From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies , this “entertaining” ( Publishers Weekly ) rom-com in the vein of She’s All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. When seventeen-year-old Bailey starts a new job at a hotel waterpark, she is less than thrilled to see an old acquaintance is one of her coworkers. Bailey met Charlie a year ago on the long flight to Omaha, where she moved after her parents’ divorce. Charlie’s cynicism didn’t mix well with Bailey’s carefully well-behaved temperament, and his endless commentary was the irritating cherry on top of an already emotionally fraught trip. Now, Bailey and Charlie are still polar opposites, but instead of everything about him rubbing Bailey the wrong way, she starts to look forward to hanging out and gossiping about the waterpark guests and their coworkers—particularly two who keep flirting with each other. Bailey and Charlie make a bet on whether or not the cozy pair will actually get together. Charlie insists that members of the opposite sex can’t just be friends, and Bailey is determined to prove him wrong. Bailey and Charlie keep close track of the romantic progress of others while Charlie works to deflect the growing feelings he’s developed for Bailey. Terrified to lose her if his crush becomes known, what doesn’t help his agenda is Bailey and Charlie “fake dating” in order to disrupt the annoying pleasantries between Bailey’s mom and her mom’s new boyfriend. Soon, what Charlie was hoping to avoid becomes a reality as Bailey starts to see him as not only a friend she can rely on in the midst of family drama—but someone who makes her hands shake and heart race. But Charlie has a secret—a secret that involves Bailey and another bet Charlie may have made. Can the two make a real go of things…or has Charlie’s secret doomed them before they could start? Review: Betting on You by Lynn Painter - "Betting on You" by Lynn Painter is a charming and witty contemporary romance novel that is sure to captivate readers who enjoy heartfelt stories with plenty of humor, emotional depth, and a touch of competition. This book is a perfect blend of lighthearted romance and character growth, with a refreshing plot that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. Plot & Storyline The story follows the two protagonists, who are caught up in a lighthearted bet that eventually evolves into something more meaningful. The bet is the catalyst that brings the characters together, and as they interact and spend time getting to know each other, their chemistry begins to blossom. The book is filled with the right amount of tension, humor, and tender moments that gradually turn their rivalry into a blossoming romance. The plot offers a delightful mix of comedic moments and emotional growth. The bet serves as the backdrop for exploring the characters’ deeper struggles, and as they evolve over the course of the novel, the reader is drawn into their personal journeys and transformation. Characters & Development Lynn Painter does an excellent job of creating relatable and endearing characters. The heroine is witty, independent, and strong, while the hero is charming and, at times, frustrating in his competitive nature. Their back-and-forth banter, along with the way they learn to understand each other, makes their relationship dynamic fun to watch. Both characters experience significant personal growth, and their emotional arcs are just as compelling as their romantic one. The slow-burn romance is satisfying to watch unfold, and the characters' struggles and vulnerabilities feel genuine, making the ending feel earned and heartwarming. Writing Style & Tone Painter's writing style is playful, engaging, and full of heart. Her prose is full of wit, and the tone of the book strikes a perfect balance between lightheartedness and emotional depth. The dialogue is snappy and fun, with lots of humor, but the author also takes time to explore the characters’ deeper emotional layers. This combination of humor and vulnerability makes for a well-rounded, enjoyable read. Themes "Betting on You" explores themes of personal growth, taking risks, and overcoming insecurities. The bet is more than just a competition—it becomes a way for the characters to learn more about themselves, face their fears, and ultimately take a chance on love. The book also delves into themes of trust, vulnerability, and letting go of past fears in order to embrace new opportunities. Potential Considerations While the book is enjoyable and fast-paced, some readers may find certain plot points predictable, especially if they are familiar with the enemies-to-lovers or bet-based romance tropes. However, the charm of the characters and the engaging writing style more than make up for this. Review: Liked it a lot - I feel like it could be better but it was still really good.

Another winning Painter love story. The slow burn from enemies to friends made it hard to put this one down. The banter between Charlie and Bailey had me literally laughing out loud more than once. The best part was the way they were both there for each other. Charlie is my new book boyfriend.

Lovely YA Novel about friendship, first love, and the beauty in commitment
I had to take a moment after reading this to really gather my thoughts. Overall, the banter and compatibility between our leading lady and man was, no surprise, enjoyable and engaging. I love Painter’s ability to write two unseemingly personalities and make them gel. It’s truly one of her strengths. My problems didn’t lay with our main characters or how they reacted to situations. The opposite, in fact, as I felt their emotions were completely justified with little justice for them in the end. I’ll start with our darling main girl, Bay. What an absolute sweetheart. Her relationship with her mother was supposed to come off as “close” but ultimately revealed itself to be surfaced. Bay is 17. She is not a grown woman, she is still a child. The way Emily reacted to Bay’s emotions and her insecurities with having a strange man around the house did not sit well with me. I am mother of both a daughter and a son, and I can say, Emily’s behavior was so, so self centered and awful it was beyond cringe and so disheartening she would treat her daughter the way she did and have the audacity to make it seem like Bay was the problem. On the other hand, Bay’s dad was completely skimmed over and all I got was at one point he wasn’t a dead beat and then he turned into one? On the other hand, our goofy, complex stud of hero was completely jipped of all justice when it came to his family. This boy was angry and bitter and the complete ignorance of his parents and the mom’s boyfriend was jarring. Therapy and tums were not what he needed. But a lending ear and someone to show they truly care about what he’s going through would’ve been a good start. I just had such a problem with the parents in this novel it was hard to truly feel happy for Charlie and Bay. In the end, this novel unraveled to be a story about the relationship between parents and their children and in that regard it really missed the mark. I mean REALLY missed the mark. The whole story is centered around two children dealing with divorce and finding solace and companionship with each other, but at the end of the day, if all grown ups suck around them, it’s hard to remedy the fact that Bay and Charlie end up ok when they have so many unsolved problems with their parents. I do love Painter’s writing. What a gift to read a novel and feel like you’re watching a movie. But the modern day outlook on divorce and the idea children need to just grin and bear it because the parent needs to be happy just left me feeling empty. The child is still living under your roof, under your authority. They take priority ALWAYS. Children are not responsible for parent’s happiness.

Wow!!!
So I didn’t really like Lynn Painter’s Better Than the Movies so I didn’t know how I was going to like this one but wow! This is one of my favorite books I loved the enemies to friends to lovers structure of it! I loved Charlie and his sarcasm and Bailey’s type A personality! I know the rating is 15 up but it’s a clean book other than the language there is a lot of cursing. Overall this was an amazing book!

Emotional Rom Com
Having loved “Better Than The Movies” and “Nothing Like The Movies,” I eagerly bought this book, though I admit my expectations might have been unrealistically high. After finishing it, I took a short break, but ultimately gave it four stars because I enjoyed it. Here’s my only criticism, but please don’t gasp. Even for someone not easily offended, the audiobook contained an excessive amount of cursing that sometimes felt inconsistent with their personalities, which was unfortunate. While some editing might have improved it, I also want the book to accurately reflect the author’s vision. This is just my honest opinion based on my personal experience. What I did love, however, was... The plot was straightforward and engaging. The supporting characters were well-developed and integral to the plot, and I connected with the book’s exploration of divorce, a theme I also experienced growing up. I absolutely LOVE how the author seamlessly weaves in references to my favorite rom-com movies, making the book feel familiar. Although I enjoyed this book, I hesitated to give it a five-star rating because, unlike her other works, I doubt I’ll reread it. I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy it or that I regret buying it. Perhaps reading this one before her other books would have prevented the conflict of comparing it to my all-time favorites of hers. I would still recommend this book to my friends because Lynn Painter is a gifted author with a wonderful voice and a great sense of humor. I’m getting ready to dive into The Do-Over!
