No Second Chance: A Suspense Thriller

A fast paced who done it thriller that kept me guessing and mesmerized from page one. Great , believable characters and scenarios with an ending I never suspected. Once I started reading this, it was impossible to put down. I am tired but satisfied.

Good story, well told. Coven is a great storyteller, and this book is no exception. An easy read that is hard to put down, he knows how to add intriguing twists and turns in this murder/kidnapping tale. Characters are colorful and believable. I was not disappointed.

Coben's done it again. This is a fast-paced thriller with a focus on baby kidnapping and selling rings. The story kept me engaged. As always with Coben, the story is well-written with believable characters.

His books are always good

The plot presents a dilemma that holds your attention throughout, although it becomes one obsessive, hard-to-believe chase. Not hard to believe because the lead character has lost his daughter, but hard to believe that one person can withstand quite so much in a relatively short duration of time. A couple auxiliary characters are deliciously, chillingly malevolent but the rest are barely sketched. Not quite sure why Edgar is such a bad man or why his daughter is so psycho. For that matter, the girlfriend from the past who sets the chain in motion and the best friend are almost too good to be true. Literally. I am starting to notice a Coben "formula"... wife dead or missing, infant daughters with similar names, old girlfriends and a trusty foil; nevertheless, the formula work and it holds your attention. You just have to know how it all turns out. A little long, but a good read

Harlan Coben crafts a wonderful, utterly believable story in this novel. Well written and one I had difficulty putting down. Excellent

I have read quite a few of Harlan Coban’s other books. They were suspenseful. The plots were complex, but were clear to follow. That does not mean there were not surprises, but when the truth came out fully, they made sense and I could cheer for the good characters and be glad that things went the way they did. (It is not easy writing this without giving away any of the plot twists in any of the books, including this one.) I ended up feeling satisfied with the conclusions of his books and I was very glad I had had the experience of reading each one. I cared a lot about the characters. Not so much with this one. The plot was rather convoluted and hard to follow, as were the characters. It was not a bad book and I am not sorry I read it. It was just that, at the end, it was not satisfying. I hate saying that because I have, as I stated, read quite a number of Mr. Coban’s books and loved them. This one, although it mostly held my attention, just left me barely caring. I will read more of his books because I can see this as just an aberration. Perhaps I expected too much and the disappointment belongs to me. I will watch for other reviews to see different experiences from other readers.

Even for Coben, it’s among his best. He’s always good. I give this one great. Maybe a 12 on a scale or 1-10.

ハリウッド映画を１本観たような感じです。 ハラハラ、ドキドキ、十分なサスペンス、シリアス、アクション、たまにロマンス。 ハードボイルドなミステリーではありませんが、 「何か面白い作品を読みたい！」ということでしたら、迷わずオススメします。 登場人物に感情移入しやすいように書かれているので、 ここは賛否が分かれるところかもしれませんが、 アフターストーリーまでフォローされているところが、個人的にはよかったです。 また、主人公以外のキャラクターたちも実に魅力的です。（むしろ主人公よりキャラが濃いです） 私はこの本の中で、猛烈に好きになるキャラクターに出会いました！

Harlan Coben costuma escrever histórias que prendem o leitor. Neste livro, o eixo condutor da história está aquém de outras obras suas. Não chega a decepcionar, mas deixa uma sensação de que "faltou algo"

C'est une histoire pleines de rebondissements, je recommande cette lecturea tous les amateurs de suspense, et bien entendu bravo pour le Kindle qui me permet une lecture facile et a tout moment puisqu'il peut acompagner le lecteur ou qu'il soit!
