Just What I Wanted
I received this monofin quite promptly from Amazon (so nice that you can track the package once it's sent), and I was super excited to try it out!I was a little nervous though because I had read the reviews about sizing being an issue. After much research here and within the mermaid interest community (as I bought this to eventually use for making a tail), I decided to give this one a go, but I still wasn't sure it would fit. I'm glad I did go with this model, however, because the fit ended up being perfect for my US women's size 7.5 wide feet. And with some Amazon gift card $$ left over from the holidays I only paid 20 bucks or so for it...as a girl on a budget I am glad I didn't have to go for a more expensive model just because of size.Size-wise the foot pockets are snug but in the appropriate way that fins should be...in other words they fit the feet but they don't pinch or rub the toes, the tops of my feet, or the ankles (though I thought the pull tab thing on the back of the ankle strap would be irritating but it seems to be ok having tried it in the water). In fact, I definitely wouldn't want the foot pockets any bigger because during my first swim with them I kept having to tighten them up.I swam in it for about two hours (in a natural spring) and when I was done there was no pain or redness anywhere from rubbing. The rubber for the foot pockets is pretty soft, which is nice. Having only used regular swim fins til now I was really pleased with how much this fin propelled me through the water. Of course it takes some getting used to, because when you do a dolphin kick with regular fins you can separate your feet and legs to stand or turn, etc. But what a feeling gliding through the water with this fin...it is a great experience! I can't imagine what it must be like with the faster, more competitive models. This gets plenty of speed as it is for both swimming and diving, which is pretty good for something that is "recreational" and for "youth". The blade on this is pretty flexible where I imagine the "better" models have more rigid blades. Still, I'm not disappointed by any means.Just be sure to be ready for conversation when you are in public with this fin...I had a bunch of comments from people asking where I bought it and how I liked it. And of course the occasional "look, she's got a mermaid fin!." And that's without having a full-on tail yet :)

Buy this product over the "mermaid" version
We purchased the pink "mermaid" version of this fin. In about four months the buckle on the mermaid version broke after about 5 uses. I was with my daughter when the pink one broke and it was not abusive use, just a poor nylon buckle. This fin has a much better molded rubber strap system. My daughter (11) has used it several times and loves it. The surface are of the "fin" portion is about twice that of the mermaid version.Make sure they are in shallow water when they learn to use this as my son (9) kinda freaked out the first time he tried it and he couldn't scissor kick.

Use properly. For smaller feet
Had mine for 2 years. Treated it rough and swim hard. Aside from being very scratched up from rough use. It performs beautifully. You do have to perform a proper dolphin kick using your core muscles rather than legs and feet or you will damage both yourself and your fin. There are YouTube tutorials in abundance. Also avoid standing on the fin as mucmuch as possible - especially avoid standing on the tip of the fin as children like to do. This is the best way to BREAK your fin.I am a womens size 8 wide (I have a high instep and medium foot). I have some trouble keeping my toes all the way in and I feel the fin would work much better for me if the foot holds were a bit longer - they dont reach my heal. I wish I had gone with the similar Rapid to accommodate my feet better, for only about $10 more, but this fin has been adequate. I may upgrade soon and pass this one along to my kid as we've begun battling for it every time we hit the pool!

No worth buying.
The mono fin is too big, too stiff and too heavy for young swimmers. Swim team kids could not even move with it. I returned it. Surprised that Finis made such useless product.

Adjustable back strap fits many sizes!
I ordered this fin and the FINIS Yellow Foil Monofin (Small). Am keeping both, as they both have their uses. Also, when my finless friends come over, they can try one out, too.Best part is the strap is easy to adjust. It fit a man's size 10 foot well, and didn't hurt my feet wearing just socks. I wear a women's size 7.5 with a wide foot, and it was great.I bought some neoprene socks, size was way off, and would have been too bulky to fit with both fins. My own ankle socks worked just fine. No sores on my feet from use.My girlfriend had the same fin, but it split on the back foot part. She shipped it back to the company a month ago to fix, but they should just replace it. She also said my new fin's yellow part was very stiff, but with use it loosens up more and works better. This fin is much bigger than the other one.For first timers trying out a monofin, I tried it about 15 minutes in the pool with my girlfriend, and I was ready to give up. Her boyfriend said to keep at it, and in a few more minutes I figured out better how to use it. So don't give up! It's worth the practice once you get it going!I use it in a swimming pool, and it works better from the deep end going to the shallow end.

This was a replacement monofin, that I received to replace a defective one.
I received the replacement monofin Wednesday, and was happy to get it, I looked at it without taking it out of the package. This one is broken, also. I am so disappointed. Clearly, this is a major problem and the company is trying to do the right thing by replacing them, but with that little rod broken, the monofin does not stay on when the child kicks their feet. It is very frustrating to say the least. My husband is trying to figure out some way to fix it so the monofin would be usable, but hasn't come up with anything. It looks like the little rod needs to be made of a stronger plastic or a good strong metal. I will wait to hear back from you. I was hoping to give a good review, and I do not want to give a bad review, because, I do think that the idea of the monofin is awesome, for children, and I think the company is working on a solution to the problem. Please, advise me as to what step to take to remedy this problem. Thank you so much, Piper Nebergall

Amazing Monofin
What a great monofin! Great quality and colour, and if fit perfectly. It was the essential part of a mermaid tail, and worked wonderfully! Even though this product is meant for swimmers with experience, It even helps novice swimmers learn how to do the dolphin kick. NOTHING broke (still as of one or two years after the purchase), the strap can adjust from sizes 1 - 7, and the straps on the monofin come off once in awhile, but mainly stay on (water shoes help!!) WAY WAY WAY better than flippers. You can go much faster in a monofin. I absolutely loved this product!Pros:1. Very fast in the water.2. Beautiful dark blue colour and design.3. Straps designed very well (ESPECIALLY compared to the FINIS Mermaid Swim Fin) -- they don't come off TOO easily, they are comfortable and are able to be easily adjusted.4. Designed to give you lots of speed. This monofin can really help you go fast in the water. In fact, this monofin is designed well in general.5. After 1-2 years of use, nothing has broken at all - the monofin is in almost perfect condition!6. The surface of the monofin does not scratch easily. (Even after two years of use it has almost no scratches.)Cons:1. Sometimes (but rarely) the straps will slip off. They can easily be put back on.2. The fin is somewhat heavy and might take a while to get used to (it's around two pounds?) if a child is using it. Also, it is sometimes hard to transport (although I'm pretty sure that when you order it from Amazon it comes with a big, strong plastic bag that makes it much easier to carry) especially compared to flippers or other lighter monofins.I must say this is a fantastic -- or should I say FINtastic -- monofin. Adults and teenagers will get the best use out of it although I started using it at about age 10 (I am/was a very very strong swimmer) so if you are a strong swimmer as a child you may still be able to use it.
