So good I had to write a review
I never write reviews for products I buy, but I just wanted to share how good this book is. We bought this book for my 6 Yr old son as strangely enough he loves everything about the war, he is enjoying this book, he is belly laughing at some parts, however my 8yr old daughter has started reading it (I bought it knowing she would like it too) and together we love every page written in this fabulously detailed book. The writing and illustrations are so charming, funny and a little sad which adds to the overall feel for the book, we are only a few pages in so far, but it is perfectly pitched for children and I am enjoying reading to the kids and look forward to another night's read. There is so much information crammed into every page, so we only need to read a few pages at a time and they can be a really talking point as we can imagine the way they used to live back then and during the war. I highly recommend this book to any children who are slightly interested in the war or history, it gives a great insight. Great for my 8yr old to read she is a confident reader so able to read quite well despite the hand written text, but struggles with some historic words or dialect she has never come across before - which is again a great talking point for us all including my 6yr old son. Really really recommend it, we love it.

every kid should read it... and adults
I have bought it for my niece's Christmas present as she wanted it. I, obviously, had a glimpse of what it is all about and found it amazing! This is a diary of a little girl who has lived through the WWII and all her thoughts and feelings. This is just amazing to read the thoughts of a real person.I think every kid must read it, like every adult must watch the "Schindler's List" film as a minimum about WWII, which is an epic historical drama film directed and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film follows Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who saved more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories during World War II. My history teacher used this film instead of "school program books" to show the truth in school. Actually, teenagers should watch it too.Good book, every kid should have it. ;o)

Great to use with my class
Really lovely book to read with my class, as well as at home with my child. Lovely illustrations, easy for children to understand the feelings of the characters in such a complex part of history. Great find.

Brilliantly superb!!
I never usually get round to a review but this book is too extraordinary to pass by. It popped up as a Facebook ad presumably as a result of my sons WW2 searches for his current Y4 topic, and I thought why not.Well fast forward 5 days and we’re already halfway through a pretty substantial diary. The pages are packed with such detail, not just facts but also Flossie’s take on events that transform her country life over the war years, along with handwritten letters from various relatives who have gone off to do their bit. The language is spot on, reading the words is like listening to a child chatter excitedly about their day to a close friend!!Unbeknownst to us this diary is actually set around an estate just outside our home town, with minor landmarks, prominent pubs and even our local independent cinema making cameo appearances throughout the book.My son can’t wait to take the book into school once he’s finished it!

Fantastic Book for youngsters learning about life during WWII
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter who is learning about life during WWII at school. She was instantly drawn to the style and layout of the book, which makes it much more child-friendly and appealing than the 'standard' style books, with its handwritten diary style, and lots of flaps, pockets, etc with letters, secret notes, newspaper clippings, photos etc that appeal to youngsters of this age. She really enjoyed finding out about Flossie Allbright and what happened to her, and thought it was great when there was a reference in the book to something she had learnt at school. In fact, I think she has taught me a thing or 2 about the war with all the little anecdotes she has been sharing with me as she reads!! I would definately recommend this to anyone whose KS2 child is learning about the war, as I think it has really helped bring the topic to life.

how I enjoyed this book
Oh, how I enjoyed this book. Although it is for children and I'm 79! My sister is 83, and another is 85, we all loved it!Marcia Williams is brilliant, clever and talented! I also ordered "Archies Diary" also by Marcia, and it too is wonderful! It's full of little glued on "notes" and "letters" It is entertaining, and yet thought provoking about the feelings of children living in war times. Sad at times, but totally joyful at other times.

My 9-year-old daughter was working on a WWII social studies fair project and we took this book out of the library along with many others. She was engrossed in this book for days and I ended up purchasing a copy from amazon for our home library since it was such a hit.

FORMIDABLE

A wonderful book
Simply wonderful. The book is a duplicate of the original done by an English schoolgirl during the war. The memories and the horrors are just great to recall. Very well done. All should read it.
