INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge

We make tenons on the tablesaw. It has always been a struggle to get square shoulders on the tenon. With the Incra miter this is a repeatable operation made easy with the indent system. The key to accuracy is the initial setup. The directions are clear. As with any new tool there is a learning curve to master but with this tool it is not difficult. Framing squares and machinist's squares will get the initial adjustments very close. But one of the best methods to determine squareness is by cutting the shoulders of a tenon in succession. As the last cut is made, there should be no visible misalignment in the wood. If there are, minute adjustments for square will solve any issues. The beauty of this tool is, barring rough treatment (think dropping or hitting it) this is only a periodic event. One word of caution is crucial. Make certain that square material is used for any testing. The sliding stop is well made and reflective of Incra's quality. I have not taken the time to understand the ruler applique. Several reviewers mentioned they wished they had cut it longer. Until i have a need, it will remain in the box. Incra has provided a very good system to reduce side-to-side motion between the miter bar and the miter track in the tablesaw. If you are finicky try to adjust the individual adjustment screws the same amount to reduce skewing of the tool in the miter track. BTW, for use with small panel cutting operations, I added a short platform on the tablesaw fence support. This allows the miter to slide off the cast iron table and eliminates twisting or trying to hold the free end of the miter up until the cutting advances enough to provide support. We are using an Incra Tablesaw Fence which allows this support to be mounted quickly. The vernier system to allow 1/10 degree adjustment requires some getting used to. It functions the same way a transit does, but reading and setting it are different. It is very good for fine adjjustments Potential product improvements include: Allen head screwdriver storage on the end of the main miter arm. The screwdriver fits one of the aluminum extrusion's slots/cavaties There is not enough friction to hold the screwdriver and allen wrench securely. Mount the vernier tables on the tool. The photos in the manual are good, but better if the tool is totally self-contained This is best miter tool I have ever seen. Well designed and sturdy. You won't regret the purchase. Glenn

The INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge box was well packed inside the standard Amazon box with plenty of packing material, and arrived in pristine condition. One thing that immediately struck me was the attention to detail that was taken with regards to ensuring that all pieces arrived undamaged and unscratched. Even the threads on the large black knob had a little cardboard sleeve to protect the threads in transit. Inspection of the components revealed that all parts were present and accounted for. Indeed, INCRA even includes extra expansion mechanisms and instructions for T-tracks or miter gauge slots slightly wider or narrower than the standard 3/4". Bravo, INCRA. I arrayed all of the parts in preparation for assembly. Initial impressions of the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge is that it is BEEFY. This is a solidly-made, precise, well-engineered product that leaves little to be desired in terms of heft. INCRA has included hardware and instructions to build and attach a 3/4" sacrificial fence (note people's answer to my "Ask a Question", above, was instrumental in my decision to purchase this product). The instructions explain how to attach the sacrificial fence, as well as how to adjust the ShopStop so that it functions fully. The full-color glossy instructions (and a couple of good quality photocopied pages included with the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge were very easy to follow and comprehensive. The INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge was very easy to assemble and adjust to the particulars of my Bosch 4100-09 table saw. The INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge fits perfectly in the T-track of my Bosch 4100-09 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw with Gravity-Rise Stand . A few minor adjustments of the integral expansion mechanisms removed what little side-to-side play there was. Once the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge was assembled and in place on my table saw I proceeded to square it up. Surprisingly, every angle tested dead-on square. When I was placing my order for my INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge I was certain I would have to also order some UHMW tape to ensure that the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge slid easily across my table saw. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I turned over the fence only to find that INCRA had already added a strip of UHMW tape to the bottom. Placing the the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge back into the table saw, I tested the action. The whole assembly glided with ease with no sticking or side-to-side play. Comparing the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge to the Bosch 4100-09 miter gauge, the Bosch miter gauge might as well be two sticks that are Scotch-taped together. The accuracy and precision of the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge is leaps and bounds beyond the Bosch miter gauge. I was apprehensive to even try cross cuts with the Bosch miter gauge, but now I have supreme confidence in the trueness of the cut and my safety while using the INCRA Miter1000/HD Miter Gauge. INCRA stands out as an excellent example of superb American engineering. I am unable to give this product 10 stars, so the standard 5 stars will have to do. Thank you, INCRA. Keep engineering quality products.

This fence not only met expectations, it exceeded all expectations. I will not hesitate to not only recommend this miter gauge, or any other IRCRA products. I have an up and coming future purchase of a router table fence. Which can get quite pricey. The superb quality and accuracy of the 1000 HD has alleviated any and all concerns about ordering one of the INCRA router table fences sight unseen in the not to distance future.

By way of introduction I am a fairly serious woodworker and have been for 40 years or so. Projects range from furniture, home finishing, cabinetry and several mixed hardwood rocking horses and art pieces. I am not extravagant with purchasing tools but I do pay more for quality when it makes sense. This usually pays back in the long run. This past year I helped my wife select a few items that "might" end up being a Christmas gift. Among them were this INCRA 1000HD & the Kreg KMS series gauges. I was comfortable with both and, in fact, bought the Kreg for our son-in-law a few years ago. Santa ended up putting the INCRA on his sled and I couldn't be happier. I knew from research and others testimonials that it would be a pretty high quality product. I certainly was not disappointed. All of the machining and finishing is first rate. The set-up instructions are pretty good and the finished product seems to deliver good, accurate cuts. I believe the most impressive thing about the INCRA 1000HD is the apparent thought that went into design and use of this tool. The slots in the extrusions are deliberate and some fill more than one purpose. The hardware package gets you going, and then they threw in a few parts for future upgrades or repairs. An example of their accommodation for upgrade is the ability to add a wooden or MDF face plate. The manual suggests addition of such a fence to reduce tear-out. But on an adjustable-length miter fence I was reluctant to use one because it would be time consuming to put it on and then take it off to allow length adjustment of the basic fence. However, they provide plate nuts, screws, washers and a basic dimensioned drawing making fabrication and installation of the face plate easy; and thanks to the overall design of the fence it is very easy to put on and take off. - a minute or so. They also provide extra slot bushings to accommodate various widths of table saw slots, or to be used as spares. And they provide all of the Allen wrenches and a Torx-type screwdriver needed to set the fence up and install/remove the face plate mentioned above (I drilled a hole in the handle of this screwdriver, added a length of leather shoelace and hung in on my saw for easy access). They even provide an extra length of the plastic ruler scale strip used to make adjustments in case the ones they installed are damaged. Expect set-up to take some time - a couple of hours. First you fit the bar to the slot in your table saw using three sets of built in bushings and an Allen wrench. This can take some time to get good, smooth travel without wiggle. Squaring the fence to your blade is straight forward but a little fiddly. But the end product is a miter gage that should require very little, if any, readjustment in the future. Disadvantages - Can't think of any. I also can't believe I went this long with the old stock miter gauges. This is more than head and shoulders above those.

I bought this on sale at $120 which was less than the cost of the lesser equipped 1000SE or buying the miter gauge and fence separately (as suggested by another buyer). While not free, I consider this money well spent if you're like me and do a lot of work that requires precise length and angles. In the past I've always had to cut all the pieces slightly over length and then tweaked them in with a miter trimmer...a technique that works but isn't fast (they're also not giving miter trimmers away). This gauge lets you set up and cut things dead on the first time. Use a quality blade and install a sub-fence per the instructions and the results are neat and ready to glue up in a single pass. As previous raters have mentioned, everything was set accurately right out of the box. In what seems to be a rare exception these days, the instructions are clear and well illustrated in full color. It was easy to assemble and adjust to my Ridgid table saw. I also like that the kit included all the allen keys, extra measuring tape if you want to set up for use on the right side of the blade, and even the hardware to mount a zero clearance sub-fence. While I probably wouldn't recommend spending over a hundred bucks if all you're going to be doing is cutting 2x4s to build a picnic table, if you are looking for something that produces highly accurate, repeatable cuts, and is easy to use then you won't be disappointed with this one.

After a lot of research I ended up buying the Osborne, then getting rid of it in favor of the Incra. I know a lot of people come down to these two tools and, like me, find the comparisons on the 'net pretty subjective. So here's my shot at a dispassionate side-by-side test. EASE OF SETUP: Winner: Osborne. The Osborne has a cam that allows you to make fine adjustments, whereas the Incra is just tap-and-pray. I literally turned a 1 foot x 4 foot piece of MDF into tiny scrap getting this thing dialed in. And thank God it was perpendicular to my table, otherwise I'd have been shimming it with paper per the instructions. Both units can be set up to be dead accurate. FIT IN MITER SLOT: Incra. This is one of the Osborn's major flaws. If your slot is a little deeper than normal (as on my Ridgid 4512) the center fence design causes the gauge to rock fore and aft. The fix is putting a bunch of glide tape in your slot to build it up. Also, the bar width adjustment on the Osborn expands the metal sides whereas the Incra uses Teflon discs. The Teflon and the smaller contact patch seems to make it possible to get a tighter fit with less friction. ADJUSTABILITY: Tie. Resetting the angle is pretty easy on both units. It's just a matter of what you get used to. The Incra has a scale that allows very tiny adjustments, but I haven't learned to use it. If I need to work in tenths of degrees, something has gone horribly wrong. But if that's something you need... SLIDING EXTENSION: Tie. The companies seem to sell this feature as support for long pieces, but that's not really true. When extended, they flex too easily to provide support for anything. Basically, this is useful when utilizing the flip stop--allowing you to make long repeat cuts. The Osborn has tool-less adjustment and more capacity, but no scale on the extension. Incra limits what capacity it has by not providing a tape that's long enough to set to the rear arm of the flip stop. FLIP STOP: Incra. The Osborne's is super simple--just a thing that moves along the fence and flips down. The Incra, on the other hand, has a really complex stop that can do everything but make you lunch. In the end, though, I felt it was too complex. It has a fine adjustment screw (probably necessary because it moves in jumps of about 1/64th instead of a smooth continuum) but if I turn the screw it will throw off my scale. Also, the screw head blocks the part of the tape that has 1/32 gradients. I suppose I could mark the high point on the screw and look at the other side of the flip stop for scale (just subtract four inches) but that's too fiddly for my taste. I ended up stripping it of everything that comes off. A word on the scale tape on both units: It feels a bit like an afterthought that they don't expect you to use. The Incra can be made to work pretty well, but it's a little odd. How do I even get it to stay put? I ended up covering it with packing tape. We'll see if, over time, I come to trust it. Seems okay for now. SUB-FENCE/JIG COMPATIBILITY: Incra. This is the Osborne's death knell. Adding your own fence would involve drilling/tapping and would turn the flip stop into a paperweight as near as I can tell. The Incra has a T-Track and a flip stop that can be easily adjusted to work with a ¾" sub-fence. It took me about 45 minutes to build and mount a 31" fence that crosses my blade for zero clearance cuts. Incra includes instructions and hardware for this. Removing or sliding the fence is a matter of loosening two bolts with a provided tool. UNEXTENDED STIFFNESS: Tie. You'd think the Osborne would be more resistant to deflection because of its triangular design, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Under a two-pound pull eleven inches from the center of the miter bar, both units moved between 2 and 3/1000. Full disclosure: I had a ¾" MDF subfence on the Incra when I did this test, but I don't think that would make a difference since the flex appears to be coming from the attachment to the miter bar and not in the fence itself. WARRANTY: Osborne. Lifetime vs one year. CONCLUSION: Obviously, a tool is a personal/emotional thing--you like the way it feels in your hand and you come to trust it. A lot of amazing woodworkers (Norm included) use the Osborne and love it, so clearly it doesn't suck. I just don't get the appeal. After setup, the Osborne does nothing better than the Incra and a lot of things worse. Having said that, since I bought the Incra, the price has jumped from a little more than the Osborne to half again as much. So, if you're not crazy for zero clearance sub-fences and have the correct miter slot depth, the Osborne might be a good call. Hope this helps. And happy mitering!

I purchased a new cabinet saw in December 2020. It is a very nice quality saw so I assumed the stock miter gauge would be sufficient (as I rarely used a miter gauge prior). I had upgraded from a Dewalt job site saw (older model) and the miter gauge on that was terrible. I started using the new table saw with the stock miter gauge and was getting decent results so I decided I could improve my workflows if I invested in a quality miter gauge. Ordered this one and DANG! It is so solid and accurate. I am getting perfectly square cuts in so much less time than I was before. If you're looking for a quality, accurate miter gauge, look no further this is the one. Word of caution...if you own a Sawstop, make sure to leave a decent gap between blade on miter. Also, if you extend the extra wing (not sure what it's called but the miter extends to the left a certain amount then you have the ability to loosen the set screws on the left extension piece a little more for longer cuts), make sure to return that extra wing back to zero BEFORE you pull the rest of the left side back to zero. If you do not do this, the internal slide of the miter will stick out the right side of the miter gauge (and is easy to miss if you aren't looking for it) and trip your brake when it comes in contact with the blade!!! Don't ask how I know... That's an expensive mistake that a LOT of us have made.

Let me start by saying that this thing isn't without its flaws. That being said, I think the pros definitely deserve a 5 star rating here. Delivery was great, product had one tiny scratch that I wasn't about to complain about. There are a lot of parts and set up takes a while (I had mine ready for joinery in about an hour). The slide guides seem to tighten and loosen with the weather, but again, not that big of a deal, I just tighten or loosen them as needed. Squaring the face to the table is a bit of trial and error, but they tell you how to do this in the instructions. Now that the cons are out of the way...the Pros: Once setup is complete, this thing is ready to go and doesn't move unless you really want it to. All of the T-Slots and accessory are tight fitting, versatile. Within the first week of owning this, I made it my dedicated box joint sled, spline cutting sled, and it's even let me replace my somewhat clumsy miter saw for cross cutoffs. The stops are very versatile, and there are instructions for how to get the best use out of them. The amount of jigs you can bolt right on to this thing is almost endless. Haven't tried it on my router table yet, but with a couple bolt on clamps, I imagine it's going to be my new coping sled too. I got way more than I expected with this thing, and if you want a powerful, versatile tool, you won't be disappointed here. Oh one last thing: I have a right tilt blade and this thing is quick and easy to convert from left of blade to right. Nice work, INCRA! Might have to buy another one so I don't have to keep swapping out my jigs !

Le hubiera dado 5 estrellas de no se porque para tofo ajuste hay que usar el desarmafor que viene incluido. Hubiera sido mejor hacer los ajustes manualmente sin necesidad de desarmador. Es macht wirklich Spass mit diesem Anschlag zu arbeiten. Nach vielen Jahren ist es endlich auch zuhause mit der Kreissäge möglich, winkelgenaue Schnitte zudem wiederholgenau zu machen. Einmal ordentlich eingerichtet passt alles.

What a well designed and made piece of kit. It may seem quite a lot to pay for a Mitre Gauge, or Miter Gauge as they spell it in the US, but you get a lot more than a just a gauge, the extending calibrated fence and intergrated stop device are also of first class quality and in my opinion doubles the value. This is a buy once enjoy for a lifetime product. It also came with all the tools and spares required. I would not hesitate to purchase another product from Incra. The delivery was very well packed and it arrived in almost half the quoted time, it took about a week and as you have read was well worth the wait. 5 STARS INCRA + + + + +

Great product. Always believed that you get what you pay for and I did. Excellent quality, solid build with extreme accuracy. They say a bad craftsman always blames his tools. You won’t be putting any blame on this mitre gauge.
