Run Away With Me: A fast-paced logical thriller

Another addictive page-turner
I am working my way through all Daniel Hurst's novels at the moment and I enjoyed this one immensely (as with all the others I've already finished!) In addition to writing reviews here on Amazon I left a couple of positive comments on Facebook which quickly earned me a "Top Fan Badge" and this had me laughing because I am sure every author who knows their classic thrillers dreads seeing the words "I'm your Number One Fan!!!"As usual, it is difficult to write a review without any spoilers - because the writer is definitely skilled at creating suspense and twists and it would be a shame to reveal any of the many surprises which unfold as you turn the pages... As it is hinted on the back cover, Laura and Adam's story begins with a panic-stricken Adam arriving home one evening and telling his (heavily pregnant) wife Laura that he has knocked someone down with his car, and he begs Laura to pack some things and go on the run with him. This is the opening chapter so I'm not giving anything away that you wouldn't quickly find out by reading the first few pages... The couple go on the run that very night, to a remote holiday cottage owned but rarely used by Adam's sister. Then they wait... to find out whether the hit-and-run will make the local news... whether there's any camera footage of Adam's car at the scene... whether they might be recognised if they venture into the village to buy essential provisions and check the local newspapers -because they cannot use their mobiles in case the signal triangulation reveals their whereabouts to the police.. and the TV in the cottage is not working... so there really is not much they can do except wait and worry. An added complication is Laura's pregnancy - she is due to give birth any day. What will happen if she goes into labour before they figure out what to do in the longer-term? Was going on the run the right thing to do in the first place? What would YOU do in their situation? That is really all I can say, you have to read it for yourselves... but as always you're kept guessing as the clever way in which the plot unfolds makes you wonder...If this book had been a film, my partner would have been irritated at me musing out loud: "Ooh, I wonder if this is what's going to happen next!" For me that's the whole point of a suspenseful and thought-provoking story written by someone who is master of revealing shocks and surprises like a tempting trail of cake crumbs. The devil is always in the detail so pay attention to every line! The ending was great, everything wrapped up as neatly as could be when it's a story about a crime.Another great thing about Daniel Hurst's novels is that they are usually about 300 pages (give or take) so it is possible to binge-read one in 24 hours - you WILL want to. It does not mean that the story lacks detail. And I am coming to love his style of writing whereby you will see the occasional line written in italics for dramatic effect, adding to the suspense.I am aware a lot of his books were written during Lockdown in 2020 and it is wonderful to enjoy them now, because during that time I really rekindled my own passion for binge-reading and I don't intend to slow down just because we are allowed out again. I'm taking half a dozen more DH books on my holidays next week!

More twists than a corkscrew
This book was nothing like expected. It's a fast-paced, rollercoaster ride of shocking revelations. There are more twists than a corkscrew, and it was brilliantly executed. The only thing that bugged me was the over-explanation. It's written in first person point if view so there's no need to be told, retold, then have the reasoning behind everything we're told explained. But it's still a great read and I look forward to enjoying more original psychological thrillers from this author.

Predictable but well written
From the beginning you basically figure the book out bc if you read this genre often, you already know lol. But the small details make it worth it. The ending kinda was like WOAH ! The ending I couldn’t put it down! I had to keep reading . Buy it you will enjoy this read if you like this genre
