The Genie Within: Your Subconcious Mind--How It Works and How to Use It

If you only buy one "self-help" book in your entire life...
Do not pass go, do not collect some other lame self-help book, buy this one RIGHT NOW. Allow me to explain why.Experts who study the brain know that 95 to 99 percent of our feelings and behaviors are controlled automatically by habits that were haphazardly programed, by various sources, from birth, into our subconscious minds. Think about that for a minute and really let it sink in, because it may be the most profound thing you will ever hear.Bombshell number two: our conscious minds have no direct access to these subconscious programs. So we can't (ordinarily) change them, we don't know when they are influencing us, and we don't even know what they are. This ability to auto-program and auto playback feelings and behaviors without conscious thought is essential to our daily existence. However, some of our programs can be counter-productive and even harmful.Of course free will allows us to make free choices any time we want. But the salient question here is not "can we make free choices", but rather, "how often do we actually do it?" You can lie to yourself all you want, but the answer is one to five percent of the time. The other 95 to 99 percent of the time we are on autopilot, habitually acting out our programs, for better or worse. And the more optimistic five percent only pertains to exceptionally self-aware individuals!Occasionally we take notice of the results of our programs, wondering why we sometimes feel or act in ways that are completely irrational, immature, counterproductive, or destructive. We may even resolve to "change ourselves", no matter what it takes. But it is critical to understand that "free will" and "positive thinking" have no lasting influence on subconscious programs. This explains the extreme difficulty in making real changes to our character using (other) self-help methods--even when, on a conscious level, we perfectly understand the principles described. We are simply powerless to change our subconscious programming directly with the conscious mind, no matter how much time, effort, or "free will" we exert. If this all sounds somewhat disconcerting to you, it should! Fortunately, we have this excellent book! It shows you exactly how to indirectly access your subcsoncious mind and reprogram it in ways that work to enhance your life, instead of sabotaging it.And believe you me, it works! I was skeptical at first. Then I was completely blown away to see results manifesting naturally and effortlessly, just from following a couple of the simple exercises in the book, once or twice a day, for a few weeks. I have never experienced such a dramatic and profound change in my character from any other self help method, no matter how much time or effort I invested. It is hard to find the right words to describe the experience... It is somewhat uncanny, to be honest, to notice yourself automatically acting and feeling differently. It's something you have to experience yourself. It's like you have been hypnotized. No--you actually have been hypnotized. The author understandably avoids that word because of some unfortunate negative associations, but that is part of what you are actually doing in this book-- learning how to hypnotize yourself. I wouldn't have believed it could work, or at least work so dramatically, if I hadn't tried it myself. And it gets better: as the author explains, reprogramming your subconscious does not require a "puritan work effort"--in fact that would work against you. All you need to make profound and lasting changes is minimal effort, repetition, and a little knowledge about how your mind really works.Even if you have no desire to change anything about yourself, this book is a fascinating read. It provides fundamental insights into the workings of the human mind that most people will live and die without knowing. That is truly a shame. The author makes a very important point that I agree with completely: the value of the information presented is grossly out proportion to the cost of the book. In other words, considering the results you can get, with minimal effort, it is a steal. In my opinion, passing this book up when you have any interest at all in changing yourself, would be a grave mistake. You would miss out on one of those rare opportunities in life to get something incredibly valuable for virtually nothing. The only two gripes I have about the book are minor. First, the whole "genie" metaphor, while apt I suppose, is a little cheesy for my tastes. Second, the audio files you can download (for a small fee) from the website were recorded by the author himself (I believe), who has an accent which is distracting (to me.) I ended up recording the scripts in my own voice on my phone instead, and set them to repeat mode (you should do this too!) The text for all of them is included in the book, so you don't need to download anything or pay for anything extra.Buy this book, read it completely, and follow a couple of the exercises consistently every day for a month--and see what happens. You're welcome.

Absolutely Amazing
Definitely recommend the book and the practices/ hypnosis in the book. Would definitely downloading the hypnosis audio files from their website as well so you can really get into training the subconscious. I've seen a hypnotherapist/ counselor in person before and I definitely felt the same responses from this book. Much cheaper and more convenient to be able to do it on your own time schedule this way, highly recommend.

Reading "The Genie Within"
I do say that Harry W. Carpenter has done his research in writing this book and he tells you that in this book. He is an author that has practiced the techniques that he is writing about. He has taken the time and spent the money in gathering this information. The book is written so that you begain to understand the processes involved in reprogramming your subconscious mind so that it works for you, and you end up with the confidence after reading it to do just that. Harry gives you all of the methods for doing this that work, that I have heard of, with some that where new to me, plus the understanding of how to practice these methods. Reading this book gives you all the knowledge you need, to recieve special things that you want from your subconscious mind. With what I think is the missing element, that has been kept from you, to keep you from not having success in getting your subconscious mind to be on your side. This is the information included in this book for going into the "Alpha and Theta states of mind" before you reprogram your subconscious mind, which is what will give you the success you are after. Harry includes written exercises for accomplishing this, plus a cd you can purchase so that you will have success in giving your subconscious mind the suggestions that work in your favor, for a small fee, to accomplish this.

Perhaps the best and easiest to read
The Genie within is perhaps the easiest to comprehend (and read) book written on the subconscious mind. It is written in everyday language, without much the airy fairy examples of other books on the same topic.Further, the author does not spend 5 chapters writing about something that can be explained in 1 chapter, or even (sometimes) 1 page, and that alone makes this book stand out from others on this subject. The Author acknowledges that the information isn't new, and that he has basically put together what he knows in a format that makes it easy to understand. If you have never read anything on the subconscious, this (in my opinion) is the best book to start with. It will create many 'ah-ha, so that's what I've been doing wrong' moments. That said, it does lack information in two distinct areas of the subconscious. The first one is in relation to symbols - the subconscious makes great use of symbols - anything you have an attachment to becomes a symbol, and symbols can go yet further (into the realm of fantasy) as they can do in dreams. Secondly, while he explains how the subconscious can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality (and how it can be used to set goals and program the mind), he doesn't explain that this crucial ability of the subconscious mind can be used to create new memories, which allows a person to gain more confidence in an area they aren't good at (because your subconscious mind uses past memories as a blueprint for how you react to future events, if you program new successful memories, your subconscious can use them as a guide, instead of previous encounters where you're had difficulty)Overall, I've still given this book 5 stars because it is so easy to understand, and gives so much good information. My 'criticism' comes from reading multiple books (so far 7) on the subject, none of which contained a complete picture of the subconscious.

This will (probably!) change my life.
I have always had hunches about the subconscious, and these were mostly confirmed by this book, and more! In this world of materialism and empiricism, intuition like mine is highly doubted and so I doubted it more as I grew older. However, your ‘hunches’ and ‘gut feelings’ probably were right, and this book explores this and takes it to a high potential. I still doubt and so this book will *probably* change my life.

and use it in a way that brings happiness, success
Just finished reading this book 2 days ago. It basically talks about how to get in touch with your subconscious mind, synchronize it with your conscious mind, and use it in a way that brings happiness, success, prosperity, and greater good for yourself and those around you. Harry W. Carpenter (the author) states that the subconscious mind makes up 92% of the brain, conscious only 8%. Therefore the subconscious mind will win every time when it comes to negative, unhelpful, unproductive beliefs and behaviours, no matter how much will your conscious mind has to do the opposite - the subconscious mind holds all the power.By putting yourself in the Alpha or Theta brain wave state of mind, via meditation, you can communicate with your subconscious and override any of these unwanted beliefs and behaviours with positive new ones. Harry explains how to do this throughout the lessons in the book, and he makes it very easy to understand. It's some pretty mind-blowing stuff, and some of the results attained by people with this knowledge are absolutely incredible to say the least. Definitely worth reading.

Priceless, valuable, information.
Absolutely priceless. If you understand or wish to understand more about that part of our brain that is so far unmapped and largely not understood this is an invaluable addition to your library. Not clinical at all, and very conversational. Not very well organised, but still a priceless commodity to the human life and our advancement. Thanks Harry.
