The Byrna CL first round power... to David Planchard
Why did you pick this product vs others?:To David Planchard... You have to position your finger behind the trigger until you hear a click. That lets you know that the C02 is punctured and you will get full power from the first round. You have to do it this way because the CL does not have a safety.

I would not recommend - Marketing 101 at the worst
I do not like my Byrna CL .61 Caliber launcher. No one informed me that the first shot was like throwing a dry sponge at someone. No where on their site stated the first of five rounds was that weak. The launcher is NOT as powerful as stated. Good quality but overpriced and too weak to defend from anything.Note: There was a review that stated, "All you have to position your finger behind the trigger until you hear a click. That lets you know that the C02 is punctured and you will get full power from the first round. You have to do it this way because the CL does not have a safety."1. There are no instructions on this method, just YouTubers that are getting paid. In a panic situation, this is not a normal process. Many YouTubers feel the same way.2, What about the lack of stated power! Number do not lie; liars lie with numbers!!! This is Marketing 101 at its best to take advantage of the average person.

A viable conceal carry less-lethal self-defense weapon
Bought the Byrna CL from Byrna retail store before it became available on Amazon.Size:Initially I bought the Byrna LE on Amazon early April 2025 before the CL was announced. The product description for the LE says it's the size of a "compact 9mm" - it is not. The LE is much larger than a full size Glock 17. I'd say the size of a Desert Eagle. I concealed carried the LE twice and it was so uncomfortable on my 5'11" 185lb body that I doubt anyone can carry it on-body comfortably which in my opinion defeats the purpose of it. Also, not returnable. The LE makes a decent less lethal home defense weapon, just don't expect to carry it on you outside the home. Then the CL was announced mid-April. I went to the store as soon as I found out they had a demo. Felt it in my hands. Shot it. Put down my deposit. They'll tell you that the CL is the size of a subcompact 9mm like a P365. It is not. The CL is almost identical in dimensions to a Glock 19. Same barrel length, same width. Only difference is the height of the upper receiver because it is barrel and CO2, and the angle of the grip. Can the CL be carried concealed? For an average size male who can conceal a Glock 19, yes. For a small female... Maybe. Can you carry it off body in a bag, easily.A self-defense weapon is only useful if you have it with you when you need it and the CL is something you can easily find a way to always have with you.Ammo:People want to hate the CL because it uses a smaller 61cal projectile instead of the 68cal that all the other Byrnas use. So what? You have to buy the more expensive brand name ammo until 3rd parties catch up. If I'm in a self-defense situation and use the CL on someone and they end up dying, I don't want to explain in court why I bought metal ammo for my "less lethal" weapon and turned it into a "lethal" weapon. I also don't want to risk cheaper 3rd party ammo that may cause a a failure or less accuracy when someone is attacking me.No safety:What separates the Byrna air guns from all others is their "pull to pierce" technology. You pull the trigger, it pierces the CO2 and fires the first round (at half strength). With all other brands, you need to draw your self-defense weapon and smack the bottom to pierce the CO2 before you can fire them. Nope. I might be able to do it under stress but I can guarantee that most people without a lot of practice and training will forget to do this and end up not being able to effectively deploy their self-defense weapon effectively. Now why do we not need or want a safety? The first trigger pull to pierce the CO2 and fire the first shot is extremely hard and heavy. If you have never done this before, you need to do it. I trained several women to shoot the LE with the safety off and utilize the "pull-to-pierce" and every single one of them had trouble doing so because they were not expecting how hard that first shot will be.Have this in a good holster that covers the trigger and the only way this goes off is if you really want it to.Power:I wouldn't want to get hit with this. If I was determined to get someone deploying this on me, it would probably make me mad. The second shot would make me even more mad. Third, fourth, and fifth shots and then hearing a reload and knowing there are now 5 more shots aimed at me would make me reconsider my life choices.Who is this for:If you are looking to get a less lethal self-defense weapon, then this is a good option. All self-defense weapons have their limitations so make sure you know what they are and train to use it. Other options such as a taser, a stun gun, pepper spray, even a real firearm all have their strengths and weaknesses. Not everyone who is an idiot deserves to die and an off-leash dog attacking your pup also maybe doesn't deserve to die but a couple shots from this will go running off in the other direction.Anyone who buys this for themselves or for a loved one and never uses it once let alone trains with it and expects to use it effectively in a high stress incident is only buying a liability. If you get this, make sure you train on deploying it under stress, aiming, taking the first shot, and emptying the entire mag and then reloading a 2nd.
