Great Upgrade from 396
Very Nice Unit. Upgraded from GPSMap 396. I am not sure what some reviewers are talking about with expensive DB updates. I called Garmin and added all DBs for the 660 for a full year at a total cost of about 149.00. Check with the Garmin Aviation Support Team by phone, they are a great resource. They handle both Customer Service and Tech support for Aviation products. On a similar note, another review mentioned an expired set of DBs on their new 660, there is a card in the Factory new box for a free month for all DBs to use while you decide what you need. Register, enter code, download, done!Note: if you plan on using the Jepp charts on it, there really aren't any notes on that in the manual or any apparent section visible in the device menus. Cut to the chase, call Jepp whether or not you already have a subscription to get started. You will need a subscription specific to this device. If you already have a Jepp chart subscription for other devices, this add-on can be very inexpensive. Once you have the charts for the 660 added, hit the JDM app on your PC and put the charts on a micro SD you can dedicate to the 660, insert the card and the device will replace the NACO approaches, arrivals, departures, etc., with the Jepp equivalents. The en route NACO charts will remain.

Great piece of gear
Used this to fly back from Sacramento to Tucson, never once did it fail me. I used an external power plugin (cigarette lighter) to keep it charged. Unlike an iPad, this thing never shut down due to heat in the open cockpit Grumman I was flying. It has a similar menu to the GTN 625 which my company uses, so it was very easy for me to operate. Small enough to mount on a yoke in a small aircraft to use. Great having anotehr compass rose right in front of you in a VFR only aircraft.

Overall first impression is excellent..
Recieved product quickly...spent a couple of hours that evening becoming familiar with menu layout and switching between screens..connect to wi-fi easy...used enclosed free update code to update all databases after setting up online Garmin account.. yearly updates for U.S. are an affordable $149..that includes nav data, flite charts, safe taxi, obstacle with transmission wire option, terrain, airport directory, IFR/VFR charts, and a global aviation basemap... a lot of information for the price... be sure to update on wifi...a fast wifi helps..I fly VFR...my intention is to connect to ADSB transponder for weather and traffic..I wanted a dedicated GPS system with a reputation for ruggedness for that purpose...plus affordability.Garmin 345 transponder is currently being installed...I will update the review when I see how it all performs in cockpit...I have been a 496 handheld unit user for a while, so anxious to try it out.
