Monoprice Chromatic Pedal Tuner - Black, Normal & True-Bypass Outputs, Easy to Tune Your Bass & Guitars - Stage Right Series

Pros: 1. Very easy to read, large display. 2. Very bright, but not blindingly bright. 3. Perfect size. It won’t take up a lot of room, but also won’t tip over, when operating the foot switch. 4. Very accurate. I checked it against a signal generator, calibrated to NIST standards. It was spot-on. 5. It has rubber feet, to keep it from sliding around, if not used on a pedalboard. 6. Operates from a 9V battery, or 9V power adapter. 7. The entire enclosure is cast aluminum. (Except for battery cover and display, of course.) 8. The display ‘locks on’ very fast, and ‘holds’ very well. 9. It has three “flat tuning” settings, allowing you to tune down to ‘drop Db’. 10. It has “true bypass” circuit design. Cons: 1. If you want to place it flat against a pedalboard, using Velcro, you will have to remove three stick-on feet and the battery cover. You can also make a spacer, if you don’t want to remove the feet. (I used my laser cutter, to make a spacer.) 2. The ‘concert pitch’ can only be adjusted from 436Hz to 445Hz. If you’re trying to align your cosmic chakras (432Hz), this isn’t your pedal and you probably should have paid attention in science class. I needed three, but I only bought one, due to mixed reviews on YouTube. One review said that the accuracy was “questionable”. Luckily, that isn’t the case. (See above.) I’ve had a few days to use it and I’m VERY happy with it. Now that I know that it’s accurate, easy to read and a pleasure to use, I will be ordering the other two, right away. You can buy tuners that are more expensive, but most of them will be hard to read, have ‘busy’ displays, and consume a lot of power. If you need ‘strobe tuner’ accuracy, buy a strobe tuner and keep it on your workbench. If you need a quick, accurate way to tune up between songs, this is the tuner you want. Can’t beat the price, either. I’ve been playing guitar for 38 years. I’ve owned many tuners and this one is among the best. I highly recommend this tuner! Rock on!!!

This tuner is well made. No concerns about the build quality. Good features. What stands out is the display, which is awesome. I've had several other big brand tuners that cost 4X - 6X as much as this one and this is the best display I've ever had on a tuner. It looks much better in person than the photos. It seems to be as accurate as anything else I've used. It reads quickly and doesn't bounce around. No issues reading my 5 string bass. I do not have the issue with the power supply plug not going in all the way as another reviewer stated and I also do not have any audible popping when engaging or disengaging. The only things I don't love are the rubber feet on the bottom making it difficult to put velcro on, but I managed to get enough contact to make it work without removing the feet. I also prefer the power supply plug on the top vs the side, but that's not a big deal either. This is a no Brainerd, it's unbelievable at this price point.

I'll start with the quirks because these could make or break this purchase for you even at the price of this: 1) Activating the tuner induces a slight pop. It's not extremely loud and with enough effects and pedal it'd probably be buried in the other noise on stage, but it is audible like if you used this to mute yourself without messing with the instrument volume during a quiet time when you're not playing and want to be silent people might hear that, so take it into account. I will say it shouldn't be enough to distract from anything else going on and it really is quiet enough to be buried under any other sound in most situations. 2) If you power this with battery, when the battery gets low it WILL suck gain away from your instrument. I figured this out during practice within the first week of owning and using this. I'd only had the included battery in and it hadn't even died yet, but as this had been the second time I'd used it long term, our sound guy noticed I was getting quieter and we'd already messed with the bass amp, and gain on the soundboard earlier and after pulling this out of the chain, I was back to being loud and he had to turn me down as when I played out everything vibrated. Basically, you NEED to power this thing with a 9v AC adapter and not a battery otherwise you'll regret it in the long term. Besides those quirks, this is actually a great pedal tuner. I will say it's not quite as accurate as a BOSS chromatic tuner or even my Fender clip-on chromatic tuner (when I compared they said I needed minor tweaks to some strings, but very minimal at all), however, you're talking about a difference that I, a violinist of 15 years who can tune 440hz A by ear alone can't hear the difference. I have only used this for my bass though, so maybe after I use this for my electric violin I'll have a different opinion, but I somewhat doubt that. It's also really responsive so I can use this to play along with and make sure as I'm practicing shifts and note positions I working towards as I'm learning the fretboard which is nice. I will say that anything that isn't an open string will almost always say you're flat or sharp (which on guitars isn't really possible), but it's great for figuring out the note of a specific fret as I'm learning. Overall, for the price, I don't think you can beat this pedal tuner. It does have true bypass as I use that feature for my in-ear monitors so we don't have to add the bass into the main mix, and it doesn't suck any tone as long as the battery isn't dying, so it's really a great little tuner. I don't think the pedal will hold up forever especially since there's already a click, but the metal construction means it'll probably last quite a while and for 1/3 of the price of a Boss tuner even if I had to replace these once every 5-10 years, I'd still be well under what a far more expensive tuner would cost. I do know I will eventually replace this as there are WAY high-quality options out there, but for someone just starting out and building up a basic pedalboard to play bass for my worship band before I start shelling out for the good stuff, this will get me started at a price point I can be comfortable with!

Great tuner pedal. The build and quality seems very good, it has been a great addition to my other pedals. This is my first tuner pedal and I am very pleased; before this I was only using a small headstock tuner and I will not be going back to only using that kind of tuner (by itself), again. There has been no static, crystal clear sound. The internal components and cable inputs seem well made. The led is bright, but, not too bright; it's easily seen, but, not blinding. I plan on using this pedal in a live situation and I see no future problems. The ordering and delivery was efficient and quicker than expected, I would definitely order from this seller, again.

I bought a cheap tuner on here to get my pedalboard going, but it was slow, like painfully slow. This unit has a large, bright display that's easy to see in any light. It's very easy to use and it's super fast and very responsive. It doesn't hesitate when transitioning from string to string like many tuners do. The dual output is nice as well as an actual battery (Included!!!) for use on the bench without a power cord. I can't recommend this enough. I even bought my friend one for Christmas.

I am a music teacher and use my guitar in class almost daily. I was initially impressed by this tuner. However, after less than 2 months of use, it stopped working altogether. I thought it was the battery, so I tried 3 different brand new 9v batteries. None worked. So then I tried a 9v power adapter cable.... did not work. Contacted Amazon, who said it was past their return window, but the product should be warranted through monoprice and to contact their customer service. Just so you know, Monoprice advertises great customer service....... but they do not supply any links or information as to how to contact that customer service. So I guess this is where marketing kicks in. If the number of people who actually figure out how to contact them is so low, then sure they can have a high percentage of positive customer service...?.... I wonder how it would affect the customer service aspect if the contact information was readily available????? Thanks to Amazon themselves for making this issue right and providing a solution outside monoprice. FYI, other than writing my name on the bottom with a sharpie, this tuner still looks brand new with zero scratches or dings at all! Never dropped, and always used with care. I honestly can not figure out why it would have quit working like it did. Yes it was used steadily for 2 months, but it was well taken care of. This is disappointing for how fast and accurately it worked. I actually really liked this thing had it not died for no reason.

I’m very happy with this tuner. It’s quick to respond, quiet when bypassed, and accurate. I’ve had a Korg unit for years, which has always seemed to pick up random line noise, especially on my Strat, leading to constant back and forth turns as I tuned in. I’ve used the heck out of this unit now on a Les Paul, my Strat, and my P Bass, because I plug in, get tuned in about 10 seconds, then get to playing. Short of the new combo I also just bought, this pedal has been the best upgrade for my practice routine in years. I’m so happy with both the quickness and quality of it I bought a second one as a backup or for guests to use when jamming out. For the price, it was hard to talk myself out of both purchases.

Overall, this is a great value as a pedal tuner. It works ... it could just work a little better. Here are the pros -Very bright and easy to read display -Two outputs: one that mutes when tuning, another always-on output -Can be powered by AC adapter or 9V battery The cons -It's not the most accurate. There's a distinctive "pause" in the meter when you are in tune where you can move your tuning pegs a decent amount before it shows sharp or flat. It's not egregious but it's noticeable. And you can hear that your guitar is not as in tune compared with other, more expensive tuners. -It's slow. When you strike a note, it takes awhile -- I dunno, maybe 500ms -- before there is a response on the meter. Overall, though, for the price, it's great in a pinch. Would I use this tuner in the studio? Absolutely not. Would I use it for bedroom practice, or maybe even a backyard session with friends? Sure. Oh, one thing I wanted to add. I see some reviewers here touting its ability to show you in tune quicker than other pedals. That is a BAD thing. Think about it: If this pedal says you're in tune while another tells you it's not, that probably just means that other tuner is more accurate -- NOT that this Monoprice tuner is quicker. Just something to keep in mind. I like a tuner to be responsive, as in it picks up your note quickly, but I don't care how quickly it shows me in tune -- that's my job to get it there. I don't mind if it takes long, that just means it's more accurate. Probably the most accurate tuner I've ever used is the one that comes with the Eventide H9. It shows your status down to the cent, and it can take forever to get every string in tune, but when you're done ... perfection!

It's a very good accurate tuner

Great pedal. Simple and effective. Love the fact that you can tune your guitar in silent mode. If there's one thing that I hate is when guitar players start tuning their guitar during a show and everyone can hear it.
