Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is an exciting fantasy novel that had me hooked from the very first chapter. It has everything I enjoy in a book—action, mystery, magic, romance, and plenty of unexpected twists. The story follows Celaena Sardothien, Adarlan's most notorious assassin, who is given the chance to win her freedom by competing in a deadly contest to become the King's Champion. However, as the competition unfolds, the contestants begin to be murdered by something dark and terrifying lurking within the castle. Celaena must not only fight to survive the competition but also uncover the truth behind the mysterious deaths. The characters are one of the book's greatest strengths. Celaena is strong, witty, and full of secrets, making her an unforgettable heroine. The Crown Prince Dorian and Captain of the Royal Guard Chaol add an enjoyable possible love triangle, while the slow-building relationships and enemies-to-lovers tension keep you invested. Lady Kaltain is ambitious and jealous, determined to become the future queen, while Duke Perrington and his brutal champion, Cain, add even more danger and intrigue. I also loved the mysterious ghost of an ancient queen, whose appearances added an eerie and magical element to the story. The mix of betrayal, ancient magic, evil creatures, political intrigue, and deadly competition kept me guessing throughout. Every chapter revealed something new, making it difficult to put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed Throne of Glass and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy with strong characters, mystery, romance, and plenty of action. Sarah J. Maas has created an incredible world that left me excited to continue the rest of the series. I would happily give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

All Celaena claims to want is her freedom. If she represents the prince in a deadly tournament, wins, and becomes the king’s champion for four years, she’ll finally get it. She happens to be the most famous assassin in all the land, so winning and taking down anyone in her way should be pretty easy, right? But what if freedom isn’t all she wants? And what if there are bigger things, evil things, at work? This book is not without its flaws, but I really enjoyed it. It has a bit of everything, action, romance, magic, politics, drama etc. There are a few twists, but you’re likely to see most of them coming. Also, some things seem a bit farfetched, like Celaena being left alone with the Prince (er, hello, she’s a killer!), but hey, that’s fiction! There is a nice spread of characters to bring out different traits in Celaena to vary the pace and upset her emotions. Celaena is a very conflicted character, which, in my opinion, makes her hard to write about and unlikeable to some readers. But it also makes her interesting. On one hand, she is a talented assassin, she could break your neck without blinking. That makes her cold-hearted and annoyingly good at everything. But on the other, she is a teenage girl. She wants friends and craves affection. She has flaws and weaknesses. Positives: Generally a good-paced, varied, story that is easy to slip into. It held my interest enough to keep me reading to the end, and I want to read the next book. The writing flows well. The action is written particularly well, clueing the reader in to how little Celaena takes down big burly men. Some phrases are reused but not frustratingly so. The setting and descriptions are pleasant, concise and clear. Negatives: Some characters (especially Celaena) are like marmite. You’ll like them or they’ll drive you mad. I didn’t like the lack of back story. The author reveals snippets of Celaena’s past, what happened to her family and how she was trained, but there is no detail. Other main characters have no back story at all. It makes them hard to care about because you don’t understand what has made them this way. Hopefully the author makes up for this in the rest of the series. A few points in the story are not clear enough. I didn’t understand why this tournament was going on in the first place. Maybe I misread a section, but the idea should be enforced throughout the story. We hear about this war going on but I never really understood that either. The Verdict: I really enjoyed this and recommend this book to those who like fantasy, romance and originality.

I picked up *Throne of Glass* expecting a bit of fantasy, some fighting and an entertaining story. What I didn't expect was to immediately become invested enough to realise there are MANY more books in this series and my reading schedule is now completely ruined. 😂 Celaena is such an interesting main character — confident, sarcastic and deadly, but with enough vulnerability to make her feel like much more than the typical unbeatable fantasy heroine. There's a good mixture of mystery, competition, friendships, romance and darker moments, with plenty happening to keep the story moving. As the first book in a much bigger series, there is naturally quite a bit of world and character setup. It doesn't have the enormous scale of the later books straight away, but knowing where the series eventually goes makes this such an important starting point. **Pros:** memorable main character, intriguing fantasy world, mystery, action and plenty of reasons to immediately buy book two. **Worth knowing:** this is the beginning of a long series, so some elements are still being established and the story grows considerably bigger as the books progress. Five stars for the book. Zero stars for Sarah J. Maas casually stealing the next several weeks of my life. 😂📚 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Throne of Glass was an exciting and highly enjoyable read. The story moves at a steady pace, never rushing but never dragging either, making it easy to keep turning the pages. The characters are interesting and likeable, each with their own secrets and motivations. Celaena is a refreshing heroine: confident, witty, and far more complex than she first appears. I particularly enjoyed the interactions between Celaena, Chaol, and Dorian, which added warmth, humour, and intrigue to the story. Sarah J. Maas gradually builds the world and its history, revealing just enough to keep you curious without overwhelming the reader. There is a constant sense that something much bigger is waiting beneath the surface, which kept me eager to discover what happens next. The mystery, competition, court politics, and hints of darker magic combined to create a story that was difficult to put down. By the final pages, I was already looking forward to starting the next book. A fantastic introduction to a series that clearly has much bigger adventures still to come.

I'll just say that I did enjoy this book but I didnt love it. It was reccomended to me by a good friend who usually has excellent taste so I was kinda disappointed with this one. The general concept was good; a young female assassin renowned throughout the world for being the deadliest thing to walk the streets trapped in a hellish frozen prison and totrured by her captors is suddenly offered a chance to save herself if she can win the Kings contest and win the right to be his champion she can serve him and earn her freedom. Unfortunetly I just found the characters to be very contradictory to their assigned roles. Their personalities don't seem to match up with their actions half the time. Celeana herself especially who I would have expected to be a hardened and callous assassin seemed to be this vein and overly emotional whiney teenager and it just didnt seem like someone who had been trained to, in some respects, view everyone as prey from an early age would be so concerned with looking pretty for the handsome boys she has following after her and I found it particularly frustrating that she never really attempts to deal a death blow to anyone despite her constant claims that she could kill a large group of men twice her size single handedly. In some aspects I did like the character; her arrogance seemed well deserved in the beginning since she had the reputation to back it up but it's never really demonstrated. I don't think she kills anyone throughout the whole book, I would have expect a little more viciousness from the most famous assassin in all the world is all I'm saying rather than just being a little sarcastic and quick to insult people. Dorian, the prince who sponsors Celeana to compete in the contest is also a big contradiction for me considering who his father is. Dorian is very fanciful from what we see in his chapters he's got almost ridiculous romantic notions about how life should be and since his father, the King, is reponsible for the genocide of all magic users within the kingdom and the enslavement of nations I really didn't expect his heir to be so sensitive or cringe so much at the sight of violence despite his claims of being even more skilled than the captain of the gaurd with a sword. I really didnt see the allure of his character as a romantic option hes supposedly very handsome and is fairly pleasent and kind but theres really not much to him. I liked Choal, he was a sensible and straight forward character who had his head on straight most of the time, except for where Celeana was concerned, but I do have to wonder how he became captain of the gaurd for this supposedly sinister conqueror of a King without actually killing anyone. His first real kill is during this book and he happens to take it very hard, if he has such a problem with it why does he work for someone who orders mass slaughters on a regular basis? It just doesnt make sense to me. I wont discuss any aspects of the plot because I don't want to spoil it for anyone because I do think people should read it I'm just very disappointed in terms of character development. There were some characters like Celeana's fellow contestants who I thought could have been adapted a little more into the story but apparently weren't important enough and I would have liked more details on the actual contest activities. All in all nice effort, I will read the next one to see if anything improves since I did like the story and its quick to get through but I'm not overly impressed here.

Very good start to the series!! After seeing soo much love for this series on tik tok I knew I had to read it and this book had me hooked from the beginning. Celaena is already one of my top fantasy fmc. Strong, witty, skilled and her banter is top tier. She also has a tender, vulnerable side which I loved to see. I usually don’t like third person narration books but this book had me wanting MORE!! There is a slight love triangle where they both yearn for her however she doesn’t string anyone along and doesn’t keep swapping between the two which i loved. Dorian is very much my favourite between the two, his and Celaenas banter was unmatched, I found myself waiting for there moments together. And they had so many good ones that made me team Dorian especially the masquerade ball and pool playing scene. They also have there cute, tender moments wanting to know more about her, gifting her a dog and her favourite sweets, sharing books😩I can’t wait to see how their relationship will develop. Choal I did like and him and fmc deffo had there moments, however I was rooting for Dorian, even though I did like the trainer/trainee trope. He kept bringing up that she was an assassin and for about 80% of the book only saw her as that, as heartless and ruthless whereas Dorian saw more than that. However I understand with him being captain of a guard, it’s his job to protect and be weary. Such a good start to the series, it had me not wanting to put it down mostly because of the fmc. I can’t wait to buy book 2!!!

5 glistening stars for the ‘Throne of Glass’ by Sarah J Maas who in my opinion reigns supreme as the Queen of Fantasy. From the opening chapters we are treated with excellent world building, fascinating characters, and vivid descriptive prose that transports the reader into the world of dark fairy tales. A place I can quite easily stay when the story delivers this much. This is total escapism at its best. Easy to read, captivating, adventurous, and with the requisite adrenaline rush you come to expect with these Fantasy stories but with some humour and a bit of romance thrown in to add more appeal. The Storyline Notorious assassin, eighteen-year-old Celaena Sardothien, has been locked up in Endovia’s death camp for the last year. A salt mine where few get out alive. So, when Dorian the Prince of Adarlan nominates Celaena as his champion, Celaena seizes the opportunity to win her freedom. Her challenge to become the Kings Champion is to beat the other 24 competitors in a series of trials, not all of them in physical battle, but survival of the fittest in mind, body, and spirit. If she wins, she only has to remain with the king for 4 years and then her freedom is guaranteed. One by one the bodies of contestants are discovered brutally murdered which creates suspicion, blame and mistrust among the group. However, with one eye on each other they should not lose sight of the mystery that lies within the castle and a king who is every bit as corrupt as he is dangerous. For he seems to have a game plan of his own. “Sometimes, the wicked will tell us things just to confuse us–to haunt our thoughts long after we've faced them.” Review and Comments Mama Mai this was good - 'Gimme gimme gimme a Chaol after midnight and a Prince like Dorian to take my troubles away' - and music please !!!! The characterisation is excellent particularly that of Celaean, a strong female fantasy character I actually like. Intelligent, brave, determined, and street wise – well most of the time until someone pushes her buttons. However, behind the battle-hardened façade is a beautiful woman, who is caring, passionate and witty and because of this draws the attention of two suitors. Chaol and the Prince himself, Dorian, who both have some redeeming qualities but great characters. We had an intriguing cast of characters that brought so much drama to the story. Some had more prominent roles - for now!! but we will see again in the series. The seeds have been sown. The Plot was clever and well thought out not just in this book, but you can see all the subplots opening up to be continued through the series. The plot felt stripped back from other SJM books which was a welcome change, because sometimes it can feel there was too much going on, and not all of it relevant. Whereas this was. Another explosion of imagination and another story that gripped me from the start. I loved that the trials were not designed for some backass bitch or bloke to triumph in where physical prowess was the only skill worth measuring. The contestants were tested for their observational and mental skills too, which was well done and another welcome change. Things to be aware of There is a trend being created by SJM in that she uses the first book in each series to introduce the characters and creates the various realms and kingdoms for the story to unfold through the series. The reason for mentioning is because some reviews have criticised the loose ends, plot holes, and needing to read the series to fully understand the story. So be warned this is a series, so you will not get closure on the full story in book 1. Whilst it might feel some questions are left unanswered, you know the seeds have been sown for these threads to be picked up again and woven into later books. That said there is no shortage of action, suspense, intrigue and scheming in this novel and it ends at the right time. If like me you have read the later series first, like A Court of Thorns and Roses, then you can tell how SJM herself has developed as an author. This does not change my scoring because I would have given ACOTR a six if I could. The first 3 books were outstanding, a little more complex and multi-layered. A joy to read, a story to captivate, characters to fascinate and set in a world that is magical, enchanting, but dangerously exciting. And am I looking forward to this series. Too darn right I am.

So I have been waiting so long to read this series, I finally got the special Throne Of Glass box set for my birthday . OMG Throne of Glass was absolutely awesome. Now this series is up right up my valley, I'd heard so many good things about it. I love fantasy and magic, adventure, romance and most importantly a brilliant well written plot and story. Celaena Sardothien is a slave that has been released by The crown Prince Dorian, with a deal that if she defeats 23 killers, thieves and warriors in a competition, she will become the king's champion. As soon as I was introduced to Celana, I loved this character. She is badass and sassy. I love her sarcasm and snark. You can tell she has been through alot and her life and upbringing has been so much more different then anyone else's. She is a kickass and strong young woman, but hides a lot of her life. She finds it very hard to trust anyone, and that is near the end of 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙚 which explains a lot of things about why Celaena is the way she is. 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙚𝙣𝙖 𝙎𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙣, 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙖𝙣'𝙨 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣. I particularly fell in love with Chaol who is the captain of the Guards. He might be quiet and grumpy a lot of the time but, his protectiveness to the prince Dorian and the loyalty he has just had me loving him. I love how Celaena and him become a lot closer through the book and he helps train and protects her, his and celaena baiter and sarcasm between is brilliant. I can't wait for their close friendship to take them in the next book. Prince Dorian has a kind heart, but found half the time he didn't have a clue what was going on haha, His friendship and relationship between celaena get a lot closer through the book, but i found myself rooting for her and chaol lol. I loved how all the characters in the book were written so well and I feel I've gotten so close to some of them already. This book captured me from page one all the way through to the last. Sarah J. Mass has written this so well. You got magic and action, romance, and when something evil is lurking in the castle and champions start mysteriously getting killed off one by one. It's full of twists and turns and takes you on a breathtaking rollercoaster of a ride and just leaves you wanting more. I was blown away already by this series and I'm on book one. I'm so excited for what's to come in this epic series. I'm now going to read 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙚 which is a novella, which of course can be read before or after Throne of Glass. I'd probably recommend reading it first as it shows celaena’s life before this and clears up a few questions and characters mentioned in this book.

Quanto à história, dispensa apresentações. Sarah J. Maas construiu um universo rico, personagens memoráveis e uma protagonista que conquista o leitor a cada capítulo. É uma obra que marcou a fantasia contemporânea e continua sendo uma leitura inesquecível. Se você é fã da série ou está pensando em começar a coleção, esta edição vale o investimento. É exatamente o tipo de livro que dá orgulho de ter na estante.

All I can say is, I wish I started this sooner 😭🤣 WHY didn’t I read this book a year ago when I first got it?? I really enjoyed this book as I feel like I’m really in my ✨ fantasy era ✨ right now. For the longest time I’ve been nervous about this series due to the sheer size of it. But, so far it’s been the best decision picking it up. I did find this book to be a little slow at some points, but it always seemed to pick up the pace with something exciting when I was starting to feel really bored. So far, I really like Celaena. She really gives off baddie, boss girl vibes ✨⚔️ If you read to here, and have NOT yet read this series. Then take this as your sign to pick it up asap 🥰
