Small, simple and effective.
For years I have shied away from stud work, mostly because it was just too tricky to locate them accurately. I had previously bought an electronic detector which was okay(ish) for electrical cables but utterly useless for studs. Then I needed to install a 100" projector screen for a home cinema project, and I knew I couldn't just screw it into plasterboard. After some research, I saw this advertised on You Tube, thought it was worth a try.To my amazement, I was able to locate all the studs behind the sloping ceiling plasterboard and mark them within a few minutes from opening the plastic packing. The little toggle moves and clicks, clearly indicating the nails or screws in the plasterboard and, therefore, the precise location of studwork. The screen is now mounted securely on battens screwed across six roof studs.Small, simple and damned effective. Easily worth the money.

Works well but VERY expensive for what it is
Having been frustrated with electronic stud finders in the past, I bought this to determine which way the ceiling joists ran in our dining room. By sweeping across the ceiling in a sort of shape 'S' pattern I was quickly able to find screws holding the plasterboard onto the joists and it gives a useful clicking noise as the magnet clamps onto the screw. I marked each one with a small blob of blue tack until it was clear which direction the joists went. The magnet in the device is strong enough to hold itself to the ceiling when over a screw. The only real downside is the price. The device is about 3.5cm/1.5" in diameter and is made of what feels like cheap plastic and I still can't shake the feeling that it is a colossal rip off and about 3 times the price it should be.

Ok but there is better
Work's ok but not as good as the stud buddy.

Does the job for little cost
Simple, cheap device which I'd choose to use over the other tools I've tried, some costing over £100. The magnet catches on the nail or screw head without any issues. Once you've found one, the rest are easier because you can either run in a straight line down the wall or measure across to where the next stud should be. I wouldn't be without it. These other electronic devices can be very frustrating to use and a lot more expensive.

Sadly failed to detect in lathe and plaster ceilings
Seemed a good idea, but did not detect anything in ceiling, had to revert to using bradawl and making series of holes to find joists and lathes.
