Please read this before you buy and use.
I read several reviews before purchasing these and wasn't quite sure I'd be satisfied. The reviews were all over the board from 5 stars all the way down to one. Let me just say this, people (in general) must not be very bright. These magnetic vent covers work very well when you think about how magnets work. They need full contact to stick. Most if not all air vents have a small lever that sticks out and allows you to open and close your vent. If you desire to fully cover the entire metal frame, you WILL need to make a small cut out to allow this lever to pass through the cover and provide a flat sealed surface. If you do not do this, the magnet won't fully attach, and the weight will make the cover fall to the floor. Sometimes the magnetic vent cover will be to large for your vent. Again, magnets work when they are in full contact. If you have excess it will cause too much weight, and make the cover fall to the floor. Finally, some people claimed that when the air was blowing, the magnet came off and fell down. Remember I said that most if not all air vents came with a lever that closes your vent?. Close your vent before using these magnetic covers. OK, so now that the troubleshooting section of my review is over, let me tell you what I think of these covers. First of all, as with everything available through Prime, they arrived swiftly via USPS., meaning they were curved a bit from being jammed into my mailbox. This did not affect them. By the time I walked from my mailbox to my house and opened the package, they were flat again. Although, mine hadn't been in the box very long. If you left yours in the mailbox, and they were curled, or bent, that would affect their ability to fully connect magnetically. Flatten them with something heavy before using. I had ordered mine a bit large, because I like to make refrigerator magnets. I trimmed them down to the size of my vents, (the air WAS blowing at the time) pressed it down to make sure I had good contact, and haven't thought much about them since. I live in a multilevel home, and in the summer, the upper levels are much warmer than the bottom. I needed to cover the bottom level vents to redirect the cooler air to the upper floors. My husband and I were out for a few hours, and by the time we got back, the temperature was completely regulated. I plan to buy more this winter, because we have the reverse problem when heating, and have many more vents on the upper floor. Very very satisfied.

FIVE STARS...WITH A CAVEAT
EDIT: since it worked so well on the floor vent, I decided to get another package to help seal two (ANCIENT) wall vents. The issue is they are NOT FLUSH. The open parts of the vents dome out and then there are borders that move toward the wall. Think like a box and the top is the part with open vents and this cover goes over the top of the box with the vents. I DO feel these still do work better than thin filters and if these vents were flush like the floor vent, would be perfect. SO STILL FIVE STARS. ______________________________________________ IF you have a steel vent (I tried a refrigerator magnet and had trouble pulling it off, so knew this would stick)...works GREAT for a FLOOR vent. I can't say how it would work for a wall or ceiling vent. I have a vent from the 1890's, literally. It looks like a black vent to a dungeon. It is HEAVY. This cover STICKS to it and it's in my bathroom so there is humidity and it still sticks. I used two because of the odd size of the vent and there is a slight seam, but really helps with the smoke from my chainsmoking downstairs neighbors coming in thru even a closed vent. .

Magnet is too weak for registers. The are rebranded crafting magnet sheets.
The first sentence in the listing description states: "Work with wall and ceiling registers..". Further down the listing description states: "These magnetic covers are ideal for additional airflow control on floor and wall registers.". Note ceiling is missing from the last sentence of the description. Clearly there is some confusion over just how these crafting magnets should be marketed. The short.... magnet is far too weak for any uses stated. End of story. Don't waste your time or money on these for the advertised use. The magnet is too weak to stay on the ceiling mounted vents. I only discovered this important fact after cutting all of the pieces to fit perfectly. The moment someone opened or closed a door these fell off with the slightest change in air pressure. They wouldn't seal well to begin with. The mostly recessed screws were enough to make the weak magnets not attach. Why these are advertised as suitable for ceiling use is beyond me. In the end I had to use double sided tape to properly secure them. Of course the joy of removing the tape and residue awaits me once the need for AC arises in the spring. I absolutely hate wasting any material. Therefore I shall glue on a slightly stronger magnetic strip around the parameter and down the center of these to avoid wasting a product which requires a ton of energy to produce. Hopefully others with wall and ceiling mounted registers will read the reviews and Q&A sections (I'll be posting a comment there as well) before making the same mistake I did. Had they not claimed these were suitable for wall and ceiling registers a five star review would have been granted. Sadly their advertised claim is false. The magnet is too weak for the advertised. Look further to find proper magnetic sheets for wall and ceiling mounted registers. I also found using these on the floor mounted heat duct register failed as well. The moment the furnace kicked on the sheet flew away. These are only suitable for crafting purposes... ie printing or mounting photos on them. Cutting them to make refrigerator mounted photo frames children can color and draw on. Cheers!

Works okay, would prefer stronger magnet if it were possible for this type of materail
These covers work okay. I bought a 3-pack to cover two different wall vents, and have a spare. One of the vents is factory painted and the magnet sticks to it reasonably well, but does not really cut sound that much, which is what I hoped it would do. The other vent has a couple coats of paint on it from painting the room a couple different times. The magnet understandably is less effective on that vent, but sticks okay, nevertheless. Both vents have levers to open / close as needed to block or have heat and it required me to cut the magnets to allow them to set flush across the vents. I agree with many reviewers that these magnets are somewhat weak, but given the type of flexible material they are made of, I don't know if they COULD be any stronger These magnets are effective in enhancing a closed vent to block heat, but do not really reduce the noise much, so if the former is what you're looking for, these will work. Otherwise, don't expect them to quiet the air noise coming from the vent.

Weak magnetic hold for anything that isnโt flat
Product came in time and looks ok, true to size, one side magnetic black or more to a dark brown with white on the non magnetic side, this product will work great for floor vents that are not blowing air, but will fall off off if vents are on wall or ceiling, magnet not strong enough to go against gravity. I had to return as my vent are on attic ceiling sloping out so they kept falling off as soon as applied.

Worked great for me! Awesome cheap solution.
I saw a lot of people complain that this cover was falling off their vent but I didn't have that problem at all. I bought these covers because even with the vent in the "closed" position a ton of air was coming through that you could easily feel. Follow these 3 steps and you should be fine. #1 I made sure that a magnet would stick to the vent. Make sure your vent is magnetized. If not there's no point in buying it. #2 I cut the excess cover overlap with a pair of scissors so that the cover was as light as possible while still covering the entire vent. #3 Make sure to close the vent as much as possible before you attach the cover if you can. Doing these 3 steps the cover works perfectly and doesn't allow any air through and doesn't fall off when the A/C or heat comes on. I will put a disclaimer here that my particular vent was on a wall vertically. My vent was NOT on the ceiling. I think it would still work but I could see how gravity could make it more prone to falling off.

Not very magnetic at all. They ought to be stronger.
I gave these a chance because some reviewers claimed that the bad reviews were unreasonable. Well, I'm hear to say that the bad reviews are actually reasonable. The magnetic force in these covers is very, very lightweight. Find your weakest refrigerator magnet possible. Place it on your vent. If the force of the air moves the magnet at all, these will not stick. The vent that I have looks almost exactly like the one in the photo. I assume it is painted because it's not grey metal. It blows right off when the air comes on. If your vent is on the floor in a carpeted area and your carpet is slightly raised compared to the vent, the magnetic force will not be strong enough to even bend this very flexible material down to stick on the vent. So ridiculous. The only instance I have found where vent covers works OK was in the bathroom where the floor is linoleum so the extra material could wrap down around the sides a little (from gravity, not the magnetic force). These stayed in place OK.

Not recommend at all
The magnet is not strong , does not stick on the wall duct.

Works perfectly.
Did the trick, stuck perfectly well to the 3 vents I've attached it too so far. FYI - 2 of the 3 vents are on a ceiling, so the magnets are upside down and working perfectly and a 3rd is vertical , all working great. If you have an issue with this, its because magnets stick to metal and your probably aren't using a metal vent !! think about it :)
