Good book but there are better for beginners (me).
I got about 25% into this book and started bogging down from the jargon that wasn't explained before it was used. Seems like you're expected to do a lot of research on your own. I bought this book to condense and logically present it. I've found others that are better.

Good book but hard to read because of size.
This is a fine book, with great extras, but is hard to read because of small size. For senior citizens pr those with visual problems, it s difficult to read. It would be nice if it were available in an in line electronic format ( i.e. Kindle or smash words, etc. ) It could ten be used on the road also. This has become a standard for many publications. One star missing because of this small size.

Outstanding Learning Resource
This manual is a unique training resource. It not only gives you the questions and answers you need to pass the exam, it explains why each answer is correct. Of course, you can just memorize the correct answers, however, this format helps the new ham to better understand what to do with your new license once it is earned. I have used this book as a resource in my training classes for many years, and have received numerous positive comments on the book’s format. In addition listing all the questions and answers in the question pool, it also contains additional useful reference information. The enclosed CD, with audio examples of various operating modes is, something not found in other license training books.

Passed the test on the 1st attempt!
This book is great. Very easy to read, and the insightful commentary the author includes is nice to read too. I read the whole thing cover to cover 2x before I sat in the local Ham Club Tech Class for two days. Took the test at the end of the class on the 2nd day and passed w/o an issue (and they used the book in the class and went through it).If you want to pass the tech license - buy this book.

CD missing
Book is easy to follow, very well laid out. Information is given on why an answer is correct. Links are provided if one wants more in depth details.CD is missing - book cover and book description both say a CD is included. There are no marks that a CD was ever in the vacinity of the book. A simple link to where one could goto online would be helpful to most.Fix the CD issue and you'd raise the ratings.

Easy Reading
This book is a little sad what with all the exclamation points and hyper-enthusiasm about the excitement of AMATURE RADIO!!! Hyperlinks in the book notwithstanding, it would appear the author hasn't heard about the internet and it's ability to connect the world over. Once you get into the questions things change for the better. Mr West does a first rate job leading you through the test questions, gives you the right answer, and then provides a brief explanation of why that answer is correct. And while there are a few exclamation points in the explanations, they are just the right length and have just the right amount of detail. Goldilocks comes to mind...he gives you what you need to know in a delicious morsel that flings you on to the next question. 73 to you Mr West.

Studying for your technician class ham radio license? This is the book for you!
I like this book because it not only has all of the questions that could be on the exam, but discusses the answers and gives the reason why a specific answer is correct. Gordon Does a good job in teaching as well as allowing someone to learn. I believe this book is a useful study guide for someone who is just starting out in ham radio and is not very familiar with its many aspects. The included audio CD is a nice touch as well.

You can get by with free online resources
Hi , this book is OK. However, if you are preparing for your Technician class license you can probably get by with the ARRL resources available online for free.
