Would this work well for a hot climate like florida doing construction or would it be too warm?

Maybe. I have only used in cold weather. wool is supposed to be moisture wicking and same brand socks are great in the heat but it keeps me so warm in the cold, that I would probably pick something else for your setting

Is it machine washable?

I always wash mine by hand. It is simple and takes only a few minutes to wash and rinse. It air dries overnight and never stinks!
