Budgeting for Managers

This book is brilliant if you're managing a department for the first time or your struggling with your departmental budget. The authors explain everything clearly and provide easy to follow examples. The book is an easy read with information presented in a way that's simple and easy to retain. If you need to get up to speed fast, this is the book for you. It's a great book for anyone involved in the budget process. If you come from an accounting background you won't learn anything new, but you'll certainly get some great tips on how to explain the budget process to those who don't. To those who have bagged this book, be fair, it's aimed at those who have little or no knowledge.

Nice book. Serves tge purpose well. Armed with nice examples. Some parts are a bit ambiguous and some more explanation would've been beneficial.

I am currently working with a small business that desires to emerge from "Ma & Pa" status. Up to now they have done little to manage their financial resources, except to count the cash at the end of the month - they do make a handsome profit. But they also recognize that if they are to grow they will need better management, and budgeting is at the core of financial management. I am using this book to walk them through the fundamentals, and I have found it to be a very good resource for educating them on the important aspects of budgeting. Plus, they now understand that budgeting is far more than just deciding on numbers - there have to be reasons for the numbers. I highly recommend this book for newbies at budgeting. You will come away with a solid foundation in the principles and techniques that are so necessary if you want to do it right.

This book is very basic and does not push the subject enough into the details in my opinion. I knew this was a book for beginners but still, I expected more advanced content. Additionally, the anecdotes in the books are constantly cutting the main text which breaks the flow of reading if you're trying to read everything. If you already have some experience in budgeting, I do recommend not buying this book. If you don't know anything about budgeting and accounting then this might be a useful read to introduce the subject to you. Nevertheless, you'll have to learn from other sources as this is not sufficient in my opinion.

Very nice outline of steps to providing a budget. Step by step guidelines are helpful and so are the hints provided to certain situations.
