Alfred Masterworks are great. Bach is the best.
I know that the most serious piano students gravitate toward Henle editions, mainly because they’re written for performance. Alfred Masterworks guide students through a small bit of history, and a good amount of technique while still leaving the copy clean and bold enough to be easily read.I can’t say enough about Bach’s inventions....they’re such a gift and learning to play them is like taking piano lessons from JS Bach. Every time I master one, I want to throw a party for myself. They’re each two pages long and vary in difficulty. Most are very easy to listen to, pleasing the people with whom you share a room. This is a great book for learning and training...then Henle can be used for performance.

Practical and easy to read
I haven’t played these in years, and I wanted to try them again—they provide a great brain exercise! The layout is great, and the fingering—at least on invention #1, is very helpful—I didn’t need to change anything!

For piano lessons
My kid's piano teacher requested us to purchase this book for him. I didn't know that it came with a CD, but I am glad it did. He likes to be able to listen to it before his lessons.

The best edition in the world
This is a great edition of Bach's inventions, at the begining I thought that I had wasted my money because you can find these sheets everywhere in the web but when I saw the quality of the printing I got totally surprised, the information at the begining of the book is incredible and the CD has excellent interpretations of the Bach's pieces, Buy it, you will be totally happy with it.

Shows proper Baroque ornaments and suggests fingering
The CD provides an example of how the work sounds on a modern instrument. Of use for all early players, of any age, who are attempting to learn keyboard technique that is presumably similar to what was used in the Baroque period.

Very clear and concise with lots of room to write ...
Very clear and concise with lots of room to write in. This book is also very clear about what the editor has done to the piece.

Helpful as a guide, not so much to play from
The discussion of tempos and ornaments was quite thorough, and the ghosted written-out trills, mordants, crochets, and quavers are a helpful resource, but the music isn't very well arranged on the page to actually play from, as there aren't enough lines per page, making you have to turn pages in the middle of inventions that should only take up two pages. The fingerings are likewise helpful, but if you prefer another fingering here or there, the printed fingerings just get in the way. Given the cost of paper, a plain, two-facing-page version of the inventions would have been nice. Otherwise you probably need to buy or download another version as well, to play from. The CD is a bit pointless, since it's played at performance speed. You can hear the inventions played fast anywhere; another version played on a so-so piano with a so-so recording doesn't add anything useful to someone learning the inventions, and isn't really a nice enough recording to listen to for its own sake.
